TOOTSIE ON TOUR
A new comedy musical is coming to Chicago: TOOTSIE.
It's the story of a talented, but difficult-to-work-with actor who will do anything to land the role of a lifetime—including adopting a new persona as Dorothy Michaels.
Starring Tony® nominee Santino Fontana (Cinderella, the film Frozen), this new production features a score by Tony winner David Yazbek (The Band's Visit, The Full Monty), a book by Robert Horn (13, Dame Edna Back with a Vengeance), choreography by Tony nominee Denis Jones (Holiday Inn, Honeymoon in Vegas), and direction by eight-time Tony nominee and Olivier Award winner Scott Ellis (She Loves Me, On The Twentieth Century).
TOOTSIE will play a pre-Broadway engagement at the Cadillac Palace Theatre from September 11- October 14. TOOTSIE goes to Broadway in Spring 2019.
Great music, great comedy. Orchestra was superb especially the drummer!
Terrific cast, good book, marginal music, cookie-cutter production. Trim and upgrade music.
This show was so much fun! A lot of talent and a lot of laughs.
Tootsie was very well done. Excellent cast and the changes to the movie storyline made it relevant and current. Well done
Fun fun fun his transformation is just wonderful and Sandy's character is played over the top but amazing
What a clever, witty & laugh-out-loud show! David Yazbek has done it again with his score for Tootsie! Fun, upbeat & catchy tunes with witty lyrics reminiscent of "The Full Monty". It's a light, bubbly & totally enjoyable evening in the theater! The cast & pit musicians were terrific! The only weak link to me was the ending. It seemed anticlimactic...they're just left sitting on a bench! I felt that the audience was waiting for a big finale number or something more. It just ended! Even the actors seemed to kind of shrug at the audience reaction ...it was awkward. Hopefully they can work something out to wrap it up more successfully. Otherwise it was a wonderful "escape" in the theater! Overall, I loved it!
Aside from the extraordinarily funny script and the catchy tunes this show is more relevant now than when the movie came out. Worth the price of a ticket!
Really had fun at this show, great cast and super vocal performances!
Excellent and entertaining Would see it over again
Tootsie is an amazing show, very well plaid actors with believable characters. Very highly recommended
Tootsie was excellent. Captured the essence of the movie. Songs and choreography were phenomenal. Nicely updated plot. Loved it!
Loved "Tootsie". A bit slow at the starting 1/4 but picked up and was absolutely hilarious! The seats I chose in the balcony had a walkway in front. Therefore, a railing with fabric hanging from it marred my view. I'm short, I had to sit forward quite a bit in my seat. Otherwise...lovely theater and I will not choose those seats again.
Loved this play. We laughed a lot and every minute was entertaining. this play was well done!
Enjoyable show from start to finish. Clever dialogue and fine performances by everyone. Kudos to Santino in the lead role of Michael/Dorothy and I especially liked the character of Jeff. Sandy was cute but a bit over the top. All in all, it should take Broadway by storm!
My Husband and I saw the Wednesday matinee performance at the Cadillac Theater in Chicago and throurghly enjoyed the performance. The musical score was wonderful and the play was very funny. The performance was full of energy and overall, good acting and full of one liners.
The whole show was a really enjoyable event. The cast was great and the change in the storyline to make it work as a musical was very entertaining. I would recommend it,
It's not a smash hit but some songs are great, the acting is excellent, and it's fun entertainment.
While not identical to the film, the new plot and characters were fun to watch.
Give it 10 minutes and you’ll be hooked. Musical comedy is difficult and this one is terrific.
More than delighted to attend "opening night" of Tootsie last Sunday. It was fun, colorful, great costumes and set, new story line that allowed it to become it's own production. Not a repeat of the movie. Santino Fontana was sooooooo much fun! I'm totally in love with his acting abilities and with him. Also thoroughly enjoyed John Behlmann - what a delightful comic actor. Everyone else was terrific. Only possible disappointment was the very subtle ending. It really didn't bother me, but today people like to have all issues blatantly resolved. I would say leave it in, but I bet this is one of the pieces of the show still being worked on. My general advice - GO SEE TOOTSIE BEFORE IT LEAVES!!!
