TOOTSIE ON TOUR
A new comedy musical is coming to Chicago: TOOTSIE.
It's the story of a talented, but difficult-to-work-with actor who will do anything to land the role of a lifetime—including adopting a new persona as Dorothy Michaels.
Starring Tony® nominee Santino Fontana (Cinderella, the film Frozen), this new production features a score by Tony winner David Yazbek (The Band's Visit, The Full Monty), a book by Robert Horn (13, Dame Edna Back with a Vengeance), choreography by Tony nominee Denis Jones (Holiday Inn, Honeymoon in Vegas), and direction by eight-time Tony nominee and Olivier Award winner Scott Ellis (She Loves Me, On The Twentieth Century).
TOOTSIE will play a pre-Broadway engagement at the Cadillac Palace Theatre from September 11- October 14. TOOTSIE goes to Broadway in Spring 2019.
The end was wonderfully. Comedy timing and speed were great. 1st 1/2 was slow and songs weren’t catchy except for tootsie’s 1st girlfriend who was amazing!
I could see this show again and again!!! The music is spectacular. The songs are so catchy and fun/acting impeccable!!
There is something about Tootsie. The talent, the music, the costumes, the bright sets: it all combines to entertain you! The writing is witty, the choreography flawless, the laughs unending. Best show I've seen in a long time!
After seeing Pretty Woman, I was skeptical of seeing another movie adaptation. Tootsie was much, much better! It’s not a rehash of the movie. It’s super funny and entertaining. The entire cast is fantastic, led by the genius Santino Fontana. Go see it. Pure fun.
A terrific musical and all around great performance. Santino singingng was amazing. Highly recommended.
This show was simply amazing. Laughed from start to finish and the cast was on point. Great all around show. Highly recommend and can't wait for it to come back to Chicago.
We loved this show. The humor, music and actors were top notch. Would recommend highly.
The play is slightly different from the movie but still good. We thought the leading man did a great job and the leading lady has a nice voice, overall the cast was very good.
Santino Fontana was a perfect Tootsie....amazing how he brought character to life on a live stage. Play was well written with great one liners. Music was memorable. Very entertaining and funny play. Ending was different since it was very low keyed vs the usual big number ending of most musicals.
High energy-great lyrics & choreography !!! So enjoyed this Fantastic event❤️
Excellent singing! Funny one liners. Amazingly quick costume changes.
We had such a great time on our girls trip to Chicago and adding Tootsie to the mix made it even better. The show and the cast were amazing and the workers in the theater were helpful, friendly and accomodating to our needs. The only problem we had was the seating had a bit of an obstructed view but we were able to change to other available seats.
What's not to LOVE about this production? Everything about it was FUN. From the actors, to the script, music, sets, costumes. Tootsie is wonderful.
The cast was so energized and talented, like the rewrite of the original story, the lead, "Tootsie" was incredible with his vocal range and overall talent.
The show needs some work, but it’s very funny and well-acted. Give ‘em Hell on Broadway.
I thought it was much better than the movie. The acting is superb. The vocal abilities are amazing. Even my partner who usually falls asleep in most Broadway shows stayed awake the entire time.
I highly recommend Tootsie!! It was funny, engaging and such a pleasant surprise!! I would have given it five stars but the ending left me disappointed!! I loved everything about it up to that point! The characters were hilarious, I loved Sandy she was absolutely wonderful and of course Michael was perfection!! Loved Max Van Horn's abs, his character was hilarious! Andy was wonderful too! Scenery and scene changes were effortless. Tweak the ending and this will be unstoppable in New York!
First act needs a lot of rewriting. The characters were flat and didn't come alive until the second half of the show,
My friends and I traveled from Minneapolis to see this show. I knew quite a bit about Tootsie, but my friends had no idea what we were about to see. At the end of the day all we kept saying was, "It was so worth it!" This show was HILARIOUS! The comedy in this show was some of my favorite I have ever seen. I think this is a credit to the cast's expert delivery and acting talent; the characters were believable and authentic. The musical numbers were also fun and upbeat, and there were several impressive vocal performances. The ending could be seen as too simple to some audience members, but I enjoyed the refreshing approach to ending a musical. There was not a big finale number, but this show didn't need it. Instead, we got a heartfelt scene, more reminiscent of the movie's ending, that allowed the audience to imagine what's next for the characters. I am beyond excited to see how this does on Broadway. Good Luck, Tootsie!
We were expecting a great show as we loved the movie. The music is just NOT good enough to be memorable. In the Tootsie role, the lead was very good, but as himself, just OK. The supporting players stole the show. I'm sure a lot of work will happen before this show reaches Broadway.
