TOOTSIE ON TOUR

A new comedy musical is coming to Chicago: TOOTSIE.

It's the story of a talented, but difficult-to-work-with actor who will do anything to land the role of a lifetime—including adopting a new persona as Dorothy Michaels.

Starring Tony® nominee Santino Fontana (Cinderella, the film Frozen), this new production features a score by Tony winner David Yazbek (The Band's Visit, The Full Monty), a book by Robert Horn (13, Dame Edna Back with a Vengeance), choreography by Tony nominee Denis Jones (Holiday Inn, Honeymoon in Vegas), and direction by eight-time Tony nominee and Olivier Award winner Scott Ellis (She Loves Me, On The Twentieth Century).

TOOTSIE will play a pre-Broadway engagement at the Cadillac Palace Theatre from September 11- October 14. TOOTSIE goes to Broadway in Spring 2019.

    I’ve never laughed so much!

by daninesty on 10/3/18Cadillac Palace - Chicago

Tootsie was hysterical! I honestly don’t think I’ve ever laughed so much! The acting was great-especially the lead actor. I loved the music and singing. Robert Horn is a great writer-so many funny lines. Costumes and sets were perfect. I’d see it again when it opens on Broadway next Spring. I highly recomend it!

Santino Fantana was amazing; his gifts and talents by far surpass anyone doing a dual-role! Recommending to my daughter to go see!

    Surprisingly AWESOME!!!

    by amt318 on 10/2/18Cadillac Palace - Chicago

I didn't have high expectations for this show but I was blown away! The humor in it is so funny you'll laugh so hard you'll cry. The actors were awesome and didn't overact their parts. The main character played the female part so well, even in the heels. All around it was a fantastic show for any age.

I loved everything about Tootsie: actors, storyline, music, characters, the set, make-up & wardrobe team. I will see it again if it plays in Indianapolis after it's Broadway premiere. Well done!! Also, the understudy for Sandy was fantastic! Attended matinee on Sat., Sept. 29, 2018

    Catch This While You Can!

    by Maggzygirl2 on 10/2/18Cadillac Palace - Chicago

This is an excellent example of clever theatre that is super enjoyable to watch. It will have you in stitches as Michael/Dorothy navigates the world as an out of work actor, and a not traditional woman. Catch this before it heads to Broadway and becomes a sell out.

    Tootsie was too much

    by Dunbar7 on 10/2/18Cadillac Palace - Chicago

We enjoyed Tootsie for the most part. The lead was excellent. We grew tired of hearing the “f” word. Even a song titled “You F***ed Up”? Really? So glad we didn’t bring our kids. The movie was much better.

    Well done!

    by SG6011 on 10/2/18Cadillac Palace - Chicago

I didn't know what to expect because I didn't do any research it just sounded like a fun show. I thought the show was great because 1) I could hear and understand the dialogue, 2) the music and dancing were excellent, 3) the theater was very well managed. There were some glitches (one of the prop's lights were dark) but overall this should be a big success as it moves to Broadway.

    Revisit the Past

by JoeNose on 10/2/18Cadillac Palace - Chicago

Amusing retelling of the Tootsie movie. Production is rife with trite humor that produces laughs. Music is forgettable. Arguably, society has moved on from the essence of the story despite the production's attempt to make it relevant in a world of transgender actors.

    Hilarious and charming!

by SingLH on 10/2/18Cadillac Palace - Chicago

Loved the cast and set. Music was great! My husband (an avid musical hater) even thoroughly enjoyed it. Loved how they modernized a movie from the 80s to make it more relevant.

We all know the story because of the wonderful movie but the music written for this play and comedic timing of the actors really brought it to life!

    Pretty Darn Good

by CircaNaptime on 10/2/18Cadillac Palace - Chicago

I'm the husband that gets dragged to Broadway shows. I'm also the husband that usually ends up rather liking what I get dragged to. Tootsie was one of the best. The cast were fantastic and really inhabited the roles. The singing - especially the lead Santino Fontana - was high-quality and with catchy songs. The breakout role to me was the grumpy roommate who was saying what I was thinking about the main character the whole time. I didn't love how they portrayed the Sandy character - she seemed one-dimensional and (I hate this word) "shrill". The ending was also kind of abrupt. Overall, though it was a good translation of the movie to a new setting and with a more modern take on the original message.

It took a little while to warm up, but when it did I was laughing outloud and invested in all the characters. Be patient whilst this show goes from a simmer to full boil!

    Tootsie was great fun!

    by Doug57 on 10/1/18Cadillac Palace - Chicago

The comedic timing of Tootsie the Musical was spot on incredible! We laughed out loud many times. The music, though, was a bit "wordy" and not the easiest to understand. With a few tweaks musically this show will be really strong! Santino was AMAZING!
