  • Very disappointed in the broadway show

by Anonymous on 11/29/12Broadway - New YorkRating: 1 out of 5

My family and I are HUGE fans of the movie "A Christmas Story". Eagerly await the 24hr. Christmas eve marathon every year. Truly thought we would enjoy the show... unfortunately, we hated it. Very disappointing production for many reasons. I thought the casting was way off. Nothing of the show was even close to the movie. Any real fan of the movie should stay away.... or just go and judge for yourself.

  • A Christmas Story doesn't disappoint

by PEECE on 11/29/12Lunt-Fontanne Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

I was a little reluctant about going to see "A Christmas Story - The Musical", being such a huge fan of the movie. (I can probably recite it by heart.) But, I decided to go and check it out. It was amazing. It was true to the heart of the movie, adding its own special touches. The muscial numbers were clever, funny, and expertly performed. The cast was unbelievable. I was particulary taken by the actor who played "the old man". He made the character his own, while being true to the original. And the role of the teacher was taken to new heights by a fabulous perfomance. The children were amazing. They were so natural, and and incredibly talented. The audience I saw it with broke into applause often during the show. We even recited some of the famous lines with the cast. And I thought it was brilliant the way they used the narrator. (And a brilliant performance!) Whether you have seen the movie 150, or have never heard of it, I would recommend you not miss this holiday event. It is the kind of show that stays with you long after you see it. Treat yourself and your family to this special holdiay gift.

We had a wonderful time. All of the performances were terrific, especially from the child actors. Lauria is a terrific narrator. Had to rush home and watch the movie again! And those Bumpus' dogs...

Took my 10, 13, and 14 yr old and all enjoyed it. A little slow in the beginning and a little corny near the end but all in all good entertainment to get you in the holiday spirit.

  • Great Musical

My friend and I went to see this on a Sunday afternoon, and I was just looking to go see something that could be good. It was great. We laughed a lot and really enjoyed it. It did follow the movie pretty well. My friend was happy they had the chinese restaurant scene in there.

  • Unbelievable

by Samess on 12/7/11Progress Energy Center Raleigh Memorial Auditorium - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

I have been in the military for 24 year and have never been to a musical. I'm the Special Operations, biker type and would never go to something like that. Then I met the Love of my life. A woman... the only woman that could ever crush my hard outer shell. Believe me many have tried but this beautiful woman is the only one that could. So anyway, I really wanted to have a magical weekend with her. A weekend that you would only see in the movies. The first part of the weekend started with this musical "A Christmas Story". What a start it was! The musical was like my princess, very classy, very beautiful, very funny, and very romantic. I was so happy that we went, because this great musical led to a fairy tale weekend. Thank you!

  • A Christmas Story: the Musical

by NYUAlumni on 12/7/11Progress Energy Center Raleigh Memorial Auditorium - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

This was an amazing adaptation of the film to musical stage. Great stage production, casting and vocal performances. Even if you just liked the movie a little and only sort of like musicals, you will LOVE this! It has an unexpected emotional side at the end that far exceeds that of the the movie. If you are at all sentimental about Christmas, the movie, or childhood, the musical could bring a tear to your eye. It did to the eye of my stalwart 17 year old son! The songs will be in your head for a few days after, as well. If you have not seen the movie beforehand, rent it quick and watch it. The ladies next to us were a little lost at times. Let's all hope we get to see it in New York on Broadway next year. ENJOY and Merry Christmas!

I went expecting to laugh a bit and hoping that a piece of my childhood (the movie) would not be ruined for me. I got what I wanted. For those that know and love the movie, it will add another layer of joy to an already beloved story.

Being a huge fan of the movie, I was very disappointed with the show. I guess the bottom line is that you don't mess with a good thing.

  • A Christmas Story was very entertaining!

by Merry2 on 12/6/11Progress Energy Center Raleigh Memorial Auditorium - RaleighRating: 4 out of 5

I thoroughly enjoyed the Musical. I thought it kept to the story (which I love), but also varied away from it just enough to make it different, which is what made it so entertaining. The singing was wonderful.

  • Excellent!

A Christmas Story: the Musical is a wonderful show for all ages to enjoy. The cast was terrific and the scene changes were seemless. This fast-paced show should be a holiday "must see."

The kids & I got tickets to see this musical as a welcome home gift for my husband who just returned from Iraq. A Christmas Story has always been his favorite Christmas movie. The smile on his face throughout the entire performance showed how much he enjoyed it! It was a perfect afternoon!

  • A Christmas Story. Maybe it's a generational thing

by TessLord on 12/6/11Progress Energy Center Raleigh Memorial Auditorium - RaleighRating: 4 out of 5

I was SO excited to take my boyfriend (we are 35) and son (10) to see a Christmas Story!! How many years have I enjoyed watching that movie!! The "Old Man" was absolutely amazing. The mom was perfect. Ralphie was adorable. Randy's suit was WAY too slack, and there was no Ovaltine mentions. The teacher was like the wicked witch, and we lost interest.. My boyfriend wasn't impressed, I enjoyed the show, but wasn't super impressed. My 10 year old won't even watch the movie now. He'd never seen it. But, he found the musical extremely boring.
