Columbus Crew History
The Columbus Crew holds the distinction of being introduced in 1994 as the first of 10 inaugural MLS clubs. In 1999, the club further etched its place in American sports history when it played its first game at the former Historic Crew Stadium, the country's first major-league stadium built specifically for soccer.
On the pitch, the team's first trophy came in 2002, when the Black & Gold won the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The Crew's first MLS Cup trophy came in 2008 with the team also securing the Supporters' Shield that season led by Argentine midfielder Guillermo Barros Schelotto. The midfielder won the league's MVP award in 2008, and he wrapped things up that season by assisting on all three of the Crew's goals in their victory over the New York Red Bulls in the MLS Cup final. The Crew followed that up by winning the Supporters' Shield in 2009.
In the 2020 season, the club focused on competing globally with the signing of players like Lucas Zelarayan and Darlington Nagbe to add quality, and coupled with veteran talent like Gyasi Zardes team captain Jonathan Mensah, the Crew took home their second-ever MLS Cup trophy. Zelarayan, who had been named the 2020 MLS Newcomer of the Year, registered two goals and one assist against Seattle Sounders FC 3-0, also securing 2020 MLS Cup MVP honors. In 2023, Columbus hoisted the MLS Cup for a third time behind an MVP performance by forward Cucho Hernández.

Columbus Crew at Lower.com Field
The 2022 MLS season marked the first full season for the Crew at Lower.com Field - a dynamic and new soccer-specific stadium in the heart of Columbus in the Astor Park neighborhood.
In 2021, the Black & Gold moved into Lower.com Field, which has a capacity for 20,371 supporters and includes seats that are as much as 28 feet closer to the pitch than any of the seats at Historic Crew Stadium. A defining feature of the stadium is a 220,000 square-foot canopy that covers all supporters during the match, providing shelter from weather conditions throughout the season. The New Nordecke at Lower.com Field is located on the north end of the stadium and is the second-largest supporters section in MLS, with standing-only capacity for 3,364 supporters.
The Columbus Crew’s 2024 regular season kicks off in February at home as the Crew face off against Atlanta United FC. Columbus plays their final match of the regular season at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey against Eastern Conference opponents the New York Red Bulls. Here’s a list of key matches to keep an eye on:
Tickets for the 2024 regular season can be purchased on Ticketmaster, the Official Ticket Marketplace of the Columbus Crew.
The Columbus Crew have made four appearances in the MLS Cup championship match, and have won three times (in 2008, 2020 and 2023).
The Columbus Crew compete at the Lower.com Field in Columbus, Ohio. The seating map for Lower.com Field can be viewed here.
Everything about Lower.com stadium is great . I only gave 4 stars because The Crew lost the game- lol !!’ otherwise it’s 5 stars .
First time visiting the new Crew stadium, awesome atmosphere, awesome stadium. Allowing “Protect Trans Kids” flag to be hung above the Nordecke is trash and lame. Child mutilation is not ok. Politics do not belong in sports.
Had a good time and it was my 2nd game I went too. Only negative I didn't like was weather and I didn't know game was delayed so they didn't open the gates to come in til about a hour and a half later. But other than that stadium looked good and had a hellllll of a time
The view from 240 was so much better than I ever expected!!! The event was fun and crowd was great.
Our first game at Lower.com pitch was an outstanding experience by the Crew and the loyal fans!!! We will definitely be back!!!
Used this game as part of our babymoon date night. We stayed local within a 5 minute drive and the game was amazing! Was very engaging and entertaining from beginning to end!
Excellent stadium great team. I had to park a half mile away
I love columbus crew games. They are entertaining and fun. However dynamic pricing leaves a sour taste. Its tough to justify spending that much on a game when the hidden costs ( drinks, parking, food…) easily adds another $150-$200 a game. Before dynamic pricing it was ok. Now it just feels like a greedy executive is trying to squeeze every last dollar from me.
The game was exciting and atmosphere great. Entrance and parking for event smooth.
First time at the stadium and it was as good as advertised. Great view from anywhere in the stadium. The Crew played lights out. Planning on going again this season.
