ZZ Top was PHENOMENAL!!!
by PhilMan on 8/22/09House of Blues Sunset Strip - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5The House of Blues Sunset Strip always puts on a great show. Last night was no exception. ZZ Top was phenomenal! Having been a stadium act in the mid 70's, 80's and early 90's, one could say, ZZ Top is old and haven't done anything lately. The latter may be true, but ZZ Top was super-polished. They didn't miss a note. They're a bit older now, but certainly not feeble! They sounded SO GOOD and looked good!!! They've been playing together for 30 years or so, so they've got plenty of practice - and it shows. ZZ Top blew the crowd away by playing hit ,after hit, after hit - for TWO HOURS! As the old cliche goes, "They sounded just like the record", and THEY DID! They even covered Jimi Hendrix's, "Foxey Lady". The HUGE surprise was at the end when they introduced two special guests - John Mayer and Slash!!!! The crowd was absolutely FLOORED!!! Billy Gibbons on guitar soloed, but John Mayer and Slash both took turns doing their solos. We were all packed in there like sardines, but nobody cared! It was so great! The crowd was BLOWN AWAY and there was such a positive feeling after the show was over. I must say, "If you have a chance to see ZZ Top, DO IT!!!" You will not be disappointed! One more thing; the opening act, "Bastard Winos" was great. They played only 45 minutes, but have a sound that no new band today is doing! They're kind of like a barroom blues band. After the show, they were nice enough to talk with people at the event. They were really a bunch of nice, humble guys. Check them out on Youtube. Someday, ZZ Top will pass the torch to this hot new act!
