ZZ Top Concert Schedule

ZZ Top is a legendary American rock band known for their blues-infused rock music, bawdy lyrics and long, red beards. ZZ Top tours include the 2017 Tonnage Tour, 2016 Hell Raisers Tour, and the 2013 La Futura Tour. ZZ Top live shows leave the audience laughing dancing and feeling like they are at a jam session with close friends, instead of a concert headlined by rock and roll legends. Their massive success has allowed all of their albums to reach gold or platinum status. The band's best selling album is 1983's Eliminator, which spawned the hit singles "Legs" and "Sharped Dress Man." The album went on to sell 10 million units, reaching diamond status and the 25 million records they've sold in the U.S. makes them one of the top 100 selling artists in the country. ZZ Top has sold more than 50 million albums worldwide, and they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame in 2004.

ZZ Top Background

ZZ Top formed in 1969 in Houston Texas with guitarist and lead vocalist Billy Gibbon, organist Lanier Greig and drummer Dan Mitchell. The name of the band came from Gibbons combining the names of B.B. King and Z.Z. Hill, when he noticed that many artists used their initials as their band's name. When ZZ King seemed too close to the originals he changed it to ZZ Top. The current lineup of the band consists of bassist and lead vocalist Dusty Hill, Billy Gibbon and drummer Frank Beard. ZZ Top's signature sound can best be described as blues-infused rock with elements of punk rock and new wave added through their use synthesizers. While Eliminator was the band's most successful album with 10 million albums sold, 1985's Afterburner was their highest charting album. All the singles from Afterburner were Top 40 hits and the album itself went on to sell five million copies. Other Top 40 singles include 1975's "Tush," 1977's "I Thank You," and 1981's "Gimme All Your Lovin'"Follow ZZ Top on social media: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Facebook.

  • zz top at the hob hollywood

by dt4steel on 8/23/09House of Blues Sunset Strip - HollywoodRating: 4 out of 5

ZZ top, smooth and cool as ever. The sound was great, the band was tight. Billy doesn't bother with any high notes no more but thats ok, Dusty was there trying to back him up. They ran through most of their hits: Got me under preasure, Legs, Sharped dressed man, La grange, Tush, with John Mayer and Slash coming out to finish the show with those last two i posted. It was a fun night.

  • Mix bad, Guests great

by JumpinJackFlash on 8/23/09House of Blues Sunset Strip - HollywoodRating: 4 out of 5

The encore with Slash & John Mayer trading leads with Billy was worth the price of admission all by itself. Never seen a band fire up the normally jaded Hollywood crowd like that. Unfortunately, the HOB mix was typically poor with a muddy bottom end and the vocals lost in the muck. Too bad, because Billy was in a chatty mood and I missed most of it. Go see them in an outdoor venue. For some reason the 3 piece sound always seems to really rock in that setting.

  • ZZ Blew the Top off the House of Blues

by JohnnyRat on 8/22/09House of Blues Sunset Strip - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

The show was incredible. The warm up band was hot & ZZ Top played for 2.5 hours non stop kicking ass the whole way. Having Slash join in for the encore was an added bonus.

  • Stadium Band in a Nightclub

by Mediaman on 8/22/09House of Blues Sunset Strip - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

How often to you get to see an act like ZZ Top in a nightclub? After the Aerosmith tour was canceled due to Steve's injury (sorry Steve), their co-headliner was left without a venue. Lucky for us, they ended up playing the House of Blues in Hollywood. The show kicked ass and in a small room it was even more amazing! They played all the hits and, for the encore, Ben Harper and Slash came out for a couple of songs. A good time was had by all.

  • ZZ was an Afterburner!!!

by mrbaseball on 8/22/09House of Blues Sunset Strip - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

I haven't had this much fun in years. The small venue of the House of Blues let you be right on stage with the artists. It was excellent and even better when friends of ZZ came to play John and Slash! All in all a BLAST!

  • ZZ Top

by Livinmarina on 8/22/09House of Blues Sunset Strip - HollywoodRating: 3 out of 5

Drawback. Standing only general admission venue. Doors opened 8pm. One hour standing, waiting. Waiting. Then an unexpected opening act. So bad I don't even remember their name. ZZTop came on way after 10:00pm and by that time some of the excitement had left the room. Took some of the fun away too. ZZTop was good as always. Will go again just to hear some great party songs. Next time I hope to be able to sit down. Or if they play HOB again, no opening act!

  • ZZ Top Burns Down H.O.B.

by floater2009 on 8/22/09House of Blues Sunset Strip - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

ZZ Top blew the roof of of the House Of Blues. The band was relaxed and adventurous, breaking out a lot of tunes we hadn't seen live before. Billy Gibbons played some of the sickest guitar ever, with Dusty and Frank laying down monster grooves. A very Bluesy mood for the band, and they took there time building momentum with every tune. The La Grange>Tush encore included guests, John Mayer and Slash. Both we're up to the task, with Billy clearly enjoying himself enjoying them. Every time we see ZZ Top they just seem to get better and better.

  • ZZ Top Rocked last night

by Tainted2 on 8/22/09House of Blues Sunset Strip - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

Wow talk about a roller coaster ride, first I find out that the Aerosmith/ZZ Top concert at Staples Center was canceled. Then on Thursday I get an e mail from HOB saying that ZZ is going to do a show at the Sun Set Strip location on Friday night. Any way so you know it's going to be a great show and (of course) it was. ZZ Top was tight and did soooooo many great old songs, they even did one from their first album. Then right after that they covered a Hendrix song (foxy lady) which sounded fantastic. Then later on in the show for there on core they come out with Slash and John Mayer to do La Grange and Tush. Really got my moneys worth last night. Thanks ZZ you guys ROCK!!!

  • ZZ Top were tops last night

by thebassmandave on 8/22/09House of Blues Sunset Strip - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

First of I'd like to say that I've always wanted to see ZZ Top play live, but ultimately in a small club type setting as I think there is an intimacy there between the band and audience that cannot be captured in a larger arena/stadium type setting. I got my wish with last night's gig; could not have been a better choice of venue - The House of Blues; and even better, a 15 minute walk from my apartment. The show itself was nothing short of amazing. Visually it was really impressive with the lit backdrop, not to mention the coolest mic stands ever!!! The guys all looked great and it's interesting that they looked just like they appear in ther pics - I've noticed that's not always the case sometimes when seeing people in real life. Anyway onto the sound. It was as good if not better than I imagined. It was what you saw was what you got - 3 guys playing their songs full tilt boogie. Brilliant playing as you would expect from a 40 year old band, they never got boring, songs still had the energy and they didn't try to be flash or overplay - just did what they did really well. Can't ask for more than that! The interaction with the audience was perfect - not too much and not too little. I was hoping that if they played their 3 big hits from Eliminator, I would go home a happy man. They did and I did. It was a real treat as an encore to have Slash and John Mayer come out and play a couple of tunes. To see and hear the band that close up due to the venues size, plus the quality of the show and guests, I really felt I had got my moneys worth. Thanks ZZ Top for a great show.

  • ZZ Top - The best concert ever!

by JDfromtheValley on 8/22/09House of Blues Sunset Strip - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

From start to finish including the Bastard Winos an outstanding venue and amazing performance. The boys played non stop for 90 minutes performing every song you could think of and then brought Slash & John Meyer out during the encore to play Tush! I've been to many concerts but this was absolutly the BEST Ever!

Really solid show. These guys have been playing 40 years and sound great. The pace of the show was good and you could tell they were having fun and were happy to be up there. The crowd loved the show.

  • Awesome encore

by gameoverman on 8/22/09House of Blues Sunset Strip - HollywoodRating: 4 out of 5

The first hour was a lot of stuff I didnt recognize with a few of their popular songs. The second hour was pretty much all their big hits. They are great showmen.

  • ZZ Top at The HOB can't be topped!!!

Seeing ZZ Top at the House of Blues was one of my best concert experiences since moving to LA more than a year ago! ZZ Top was awesome playing hit after hit! Then to top it off, John Mayer and Slash joined the bearded ones for a great jam session! What a memorable experiemce!
