About

WICKED is a Tony-winning sensation that has been defying gravity and delighting Broadway audiences since 2003. With music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman, the fantastical prequel to The Wizard of Oz was nominated for 10 Tony Awards after it opened at the Gershwin Theatre in New York City, and won three, including Best Actress for Idina Menzel, who played the original Elphaba. The musical’s first national tour opened in 2005 and ever since, WICKED’s touring production has criss-crossed North America offering theatergoers one short day in the Emerald City filled with magic, music and the ”untold true story of the Witches of Oz.” The second national tour — known as the “Munchkinland Tour” — has been an open-ended production since 2009 and now stars Olivia Valli as Elphaba and Celia Hottenstein as Glinda.

    OMG! Wicked was amazing!!!

by Joeyaynn on 9/10/14San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San Jose

This wa the second touring performance that I saw. This one was absolutely just as awesome as the first time! Funny and exuberant and breathtaking performances. The orchestra was perfectly in sync with the stars. After I watched it on Saturday, I immediately wanted tickets for the next weekend. I wanted to see it again! It was so very good. Oz Martinis were great and the green ambience was perfect... Just take cash for the gift store if you have a local small bank. I had issues with paying with my local bank card.

    Wicked was incredible!

by Danvillite on 9/10/14San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San Jose

We saw the original production about 10 years ago in San Francisco. It was great then but the actual play has been substantially improved with many story lines being closed up. We had several of our grandchildren with us aged from 6 to 11 and they were able to follow it and really enjoy this retelling of the story they already knew and loved. We are very pleased to have been able to see it again.

    Wicked was Amazing!!!

by jchan3990 on 9/10/14San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San Jose

One of the best shows I have ever been to. Show was funny, entertaining, and brought back memories with all the old references. Usually don't like new/different twists on an original story, but this one was so well done (perfect amount of humor and seriousness) that I may have enjoyed it better than the original.

Wicked lived up to the hype

by LeChevalierBlanc on 9/10/14San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San Jose

Great overall performance. The sets and technical presentation was excellent - very polished and professional. The actress choice for Elphaba was very good for the role. Glinda was good, but felt a little lacking in energy and vocal "chops" for the songs, especially in the second act. The supporting actors were also good and carried the play along in a very positive direction.

    Wickedly Wonderful!

by GailEM on 9/9/14San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San Jose

A wonderful story about two women friends that couldn't be more opposite. Emma Hunton as Elphaba and Cassie Okenka played Glinda. Their voices soared through every number. "For Good" brought me to tears.

    Wicked good, as expected

by Neelio07 on 9/9/14San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San Jose

This is a national tour and everything is first rate. I was fortunate enough to see Wicked on Broadway a few months after it opened in 2003 and was blown away. So it's hard to compare to that 'first time'. This cast did a great job, and the sets, lighting, and so forth all fantastic. It's good to be able to get such quality and NOT have to go to SF.

    Amazing Performance

by Nmanti on 9/8/14San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San Jose

I decided to see Wicked a few years ago. When I went to buy tickets I was sad to see that the show moved from SF to NY. When they went on tour and came back to the area I jumped at the chance to see it. I was quite impressed with the overall show. The story was great and the performance was amazing. A must see for any fan of musicals or the wizard of oz.

    Wicked was magical!!!

by Keienosaran on 9/8/14San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San Jose

I have been waiting 8 years to see this show. Life kept getting in the way and I finally got to see it and I smiled the entire time. Plus I almost cried during Defying Gravity and For Good!!! I am so glad to say that Wicked was worth the wait!!! When I read the book and even when I was listening to the original broadway cast cd, Elphaba was my favorite character, hands down, but surprisingly I absolutely love Galinda. She had me laughing throughout the entire show.

    Wicked is Wickedtabulous!

by Merry77 on 9/8/14San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San Jose

Wicked has always been a favorite of mine, but this particular show was better than any I've seen. The singing was heart-felt and moving and the acting was spectacular. I loved the comedic acting by the two leads, especially Glinda. What timing! The entire cast didn't miss a beat and kept the audience in anticipation of the ending. My mother, who had never been before, was completely entranced and enjoyed the entire experience. I thoroughly enjoyed the show.

Excellent night at the theater (WICKED)

by FreeForm on 9/8/14San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San Jose

One of my 'best ever' nights at the theater. Totally enjoyable theatrical presentation in an outstanding venue. Sometime theater can go 'so wrong' or be very pedestrian, but I could be a repeat customer for this show. NOTE: CPA personnel helpful 'across the board'.
