About

WICKED is a Tony-winning sensation that has been defying gravity and delighting Broadway audiences since 2003. With music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman, the fantastical prequel to The Wizard of Oz was nominated for 10 Tony Awards after it opened at the Gershwin Theatre in New York City, and won three, including Best Actress for Idina Menzel, who played the original Elphaba. The musical’s first national tour opened in 2005 and ever since, WICKED’s touring production has criss-crossed North America offering theatergoers one short day in the Emerald City filled with magic, music and the ”untold true story of the Witches of Oz.” The second national tour — known as the “Munchkinland Tour” — has been an open-ended production since 2009 and now stars Olivia Valli as Elphaba and Celia Hottenstein as Glinda.

This performance of Wicked was outstanding. Best production for San Jose. Wish we could give an award to the two main stars...Glinda and Elphaba. The two were amazing. San Jose, please bring this show back.

    WICKED very entertaining.

by edulegend on 9/10/14San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San Jose

Excellent acting, wonderful sets, and incredible voices. The music and singing was wonderful. Everyone in the show was marvelous. The sound was wonderful. Occasionally words to songs were not clear to us seniors. Everyone, however, did a great job.

Great effects, acting and music. There is a real orchestra that plays with the great actors. Story is interesting but predictable at times.

The show was excellent, but the venue was terrible. They didn't have enough womens' restrooms available and so many people missed the beginning of the second half because they were waiting in line. Not acceptable.

    Wicked was spectacular!

We all loved the theatrical production and singing...would have been 5 stars, but I'm not a fan of contemporary humor mixed in.

    Wickedly Wonderful!

by MusicalsToRemember on 9/10/14San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San Jose

My twin 10-year-old daughters and I have been singing bits and pieces of "Popular" as we practice the ever so alluring hair toss, (instructed by Glinda) since we saw the show. I heard so much about Wicked when it was in San Francisco and couldn't wait for it to return. And now, I can't wait for it to come back yet again. We have been telling all of our friends to see it.

    Wicked review

by shompens on 9/10/14San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San Jose

Great broadway show. Excellent production. Sound projection from certain characters was somewhat weak, especially for a broadway show. If you like broadway musicals, this is a classic that must be seen sometime. San Jose Center for Performing Arts: Seating was awkward. Had to see the stage between the two people sitting in front of you.

The touring cast of Wicked was darn near flawless. The acting was superb and the singing was amazing. I saw the show twice and I would go see it again if it were not leaving the Bay Area this weekend.

    The wonderful Wicked Show

by channinglee on 9/10/14San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San Jose

I had a friend Rod recommend this show to me. It is by far the best play I have ever seen. The San Jose Performing Arts Center was fantastic. The stage had a lot of little perfect props and trap doors. The performers were outstanding. The music and vocals were perfect.

    wicked was wicked good

by theaterbiff on 9/10/14San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San Jose

I wasn't expecting much from a traveling 'Broadway' show but "Wicked" managed to change my mind and then some. I was enthralled from the beginning to the end. It is a Disneyfied version of the "Wizard of Oz" story but it is fun nevertheless. The music is good and the actors definitely stage worthy.
