by JB on 11/29/22Walnut Street Theatre - PhiladelphiaI took my 7 year old daughter to the show thinking that it would be pretty close to the original story. It was not. I've seen similar shows such as Beauty & the Beast which was wonderful and that stuck close to the original story. This version of Cinderella didn't come close. Yes, I know it was touted as Rodgers & Hammerstein's version however the story strayed too far from what most of us know and love as the Cinderella story. There also was a good amount of adult sarcasm/humor throughout. It gave the adults a laugh but I could have done without and would rather have had the heartwarming story expected. The script went too far off and also seemed to have political messages. One of Cinderella's stepsisters was really nice and friendly with Cinderella. I also was very disappointed that I bought front row seats for myself and my 7 yr old daughter and she could barely see what was going on because of the stage height. I had problems seeing. When I ordered the tickets there was no disclaimer that said "limited view" like you always get when ordering concert tickets so I feel I was ripped off of the $95+ I spent per ticket. Had I had a limited view warning I would not have bought front row tickets. Overall I do not feel like the entire experience was worth the amount of money I put out for 2 tickets and parking. Of course, my daughter was happy to have mom/daughter time and I'm thankful for that. But if I had the choice again I would either buy cheaper seats if she insisted on going or try to find a better show.
