    It was Wonderful!

by Lovey on 12/6/22Walnut Street Theatre - Philadelphia

Going to the Walnut with my daughter and grand daughter has now become a tradition at Christmas time. She is 7. We saw the Little Mermaid last year and Cinderella did not disappoint. The music and singing was amazing. In this day and age for a little girl to love real actors on a stage makes me so happy. We will be seeing the kids spring production can't wait.

I took my 7 year old daughter to the show thinking that it would be pretty close to the original story. It was not. I've seen similar shows such as Beauty & the Beast which was wonderful and that stuck close to the original story. This version of Cinderella didn't come close. Yes, I know it was touted as Rodgers & Hammerstein's version however the story strayed too far from what most of us know and love as the Cinderella story. There also was a good amount of adult sarcasm/humor throughout. It gave the adults a laugh but I could have done without and would rather have had the heartwarming story expected. The script went too far off and also seemed to have political messages. One of Cinderella's stepsisters was really nice and friendly with Cinderella. I also was very disappointed that I bought front row seats for myself and my 7 yr old daughter and she could barely see what was going on because of the stage height. I had problems seeing. When I ordered the tickets there was no disclaimer that said "limited view" like you always get when ordering concert tickets so I feel I was ripped off of the $95+ I spent per ticket. Had I had a limited view warning I would not have bought front row tickets. Overall I do not feel like the entire experience was worth the amount of money I put out for 2 tickets and parking. Of course, my daughter was happy to have mom/daughter time and I'm thankful for that. But if I had the choice again I would either buy cheaper seats if she insisted on going or try to find a better show.

    Cinderella

Pleasant show, nothing spectacular. Worth the discount price I got for the tickets but NO WAY worth the $175 original price. Some good talent....PRETTY dresses!

    It was different

How the theater tied in that the government was not being fair to its people was pathetic. Last time I saw CinderElla there was no politically charged villagers bombarding the castle. I thinks it unfair you tied this in to the story line. I didn’t come to see a “woke “ version of a classic with my 4 year old. Don’t call it Cinderella if your gonna change the meaning of the story.

    Cinderella is Excellent

by Theater Fan on 11/29/22Walnut Street Theatre - Philadelphia

The Walnut Street Theater production of Cinderella was excellent. Cinderella and the Prince were wonderful and had beautiful voices that blended so well together. This classic version of Cinderella is always my favorite. The music was terrific. Fairy Godmother was terrific. The costume and sets made for a beautiful production. The show had a few cute changes that enhanced the show. Thanks for this great date night out! Can't wait to come to the Walnut Street Theater again. Love, The Theater Fan
