I love this title. The nutcracker with a little more fling.

by Hip on 11/29/23DeVos Performance Hall - Grand Rapids

I didn't have a good grasp of what was going on since there was no program. I don't know if I was supposed to read it before hand. All in all I enjoyed it but thought it was a low budget event.

    What a fun show

by Johnny on 11/28/23Fox Cities PAC - Appleton

A fun version of a long standing show. It helps understand the time line of hip hop. It also helps you learn about its roots.

    Refreshingly different

by CR on 11/28/23Fox Cities PAC - Appleton

Took my granddaughter who is taking hip hop dance classes. She loved it! We had a little trouble following the story but we figured it out and really enjoyed it. She watched intently and loved the dancers. The music with Kurtis Blow in the beginning was new for her and opened up a conversation about the music I listened to when I was her age. Great bonding experience for us. We are very close but this brought us even closer. Dancing in our seats and singing along. Thanks!

Not so great of a show

by Kv on 11/28/23Fox Cities PAC - Appleton

We were actually quite disappointed in the show. It felt like you were watching a black-and-white movie because there was no color on the stage and no actual sets. We spent $1100 on tickets for the five of us and I feel like that was way too much. Several people left at intermission because they were feeling the same way. There was really not much of a description of what the show was going to be ahead of time.

    Creative

by It was really nice on 11/28/23Fox Cities PAC - Appleton

I liked the creativeness of the show. The dancers were really good and we loved Kurt's Blow and the DJ.

    Fun filled evening

    by Tatemtots on 11/14/23Paramount Theatre-Oakland - Oakland

I attended last year’s showcase with my stepdaughter only and we thought we would include the littles (ages 5, 7 and 8) this year. The audience vibe was different this year and not a packed house, unlike last year. Performance was a bit different too. Not as energetic as last year. Sometimes, you just have to attend an event once.

    HIPHOP Nutcracker

    by RiRi on 11/14/23Paramount Theatre-Oakland - Oakland

The Venue was beautiful. The performance was great. I only wish they had done more wardrobe changes.. And, the set could be more elaborate. I enjoyed the show overall.

I loved it! Nice change from my regular tradition of the ballet. Great dancers, set, performances and venue! Fun audience engagement too.

More break dancing than Hip Hop

by Jacquie on 12/27/22DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

Not anything like I expected. The MC prior to the Hip Hop Nutcracker was the best part of the day. My granddaughter is studying Hip Hop and was also disappointed in the lack of characteristic numbers that were true Hip Hop. Low energy and felt like the dancers were just "going through the motions".

    Fantastic experience

by John on 12/27/22DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

Taking the music of the Nutcracker and replacing ballet with Hip-hop dance moves was genius. Icing on the cake was the Kurtis Blow performance live. Just a fantastic show!

Not what we expected; left early.

by Angela on 12/27/22DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

Hip Hop Nutcracker, the name alone leads you to believe that it was going to be hyped and fun to watch. This was neither. Even if you look at the image of the 2 dancers flipping in the air, you would think it was going to be full of excitement; it was not. We, along with several other people around us, was very disappointed. The best part was Kurtis Blow.

    Too loud

by T on 12/27/22DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

The sound was so loud my seat and bones were vibrating. It ruined the hole experience and we left after 20 min. It looked like a cool show, but not worth ear pain and hearing loss.

    Disconnect

by Mel on 12/26/22DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

The MC and DJ were great. The dancers were very good, and enthusiastic. The costumes and scenery were not exciting at all. And most importantly, there is a disconnect between the traditional Nutcracker music, and the hip hop dance moves, which is distracting.

    Amazing!

by Trina on 12/26/22DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

Loved how they played Tchaikovsky music throughout and added a hip hop flare with the dancing. The combination of the music, dancing and artistry was amazing!

    Amazing

by Noel on 12/26/22DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

To take a classic and timless show that is done in ballet form and turn it into hip hop while keeping the classic music was phenomenal. Young and old should go and enjoy this amazing show. My favorite was the violinist.

Great performance-at least what I could see.

by Kat on 12/26/22DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

A lady sat in front of me who had an attractive hair do, but it became a bush in the back for me to try to see through. I was unable to see the whole stage during the performance. All I could see was parts as I squished over next to my granddaughters.

Hip Hop Nutcracker—a breath of fresh air

by Lady MacB on 12/26/22DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

Loved everything… The opening sequence with Kutis Blow and his “Hip Hop” history tour got everyone dancing and segued perfectly to the opening sequences done masterfully by the “Hip Hop” violinist who tied everything together with the DJ thru out this contemporary performance…The dancers were so energetic and seemed to be having a lot of fun with each other….The way the audience was “brought” back in time to the “land of the sweets ” made for a perfect transition….would enjoy seeing this again at the holidays….Bravo!!!
