Great DJ - set was lackluster

by Jb on 12/26/22DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

DJ and old school hits were great. However there wasn’t really a set, only a screen back drop. It could be better. Loved seeing Curtis Blow but his monologue could be about 15-20mins shorter

    Boring!

by Chanel S on 12/26/22DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

This show put us to sleep and several people around us. At intermission, several people left and never returned as did we. I assumed this act would use hip hop beats and instrumentals. It did not. They played sleepy instrumentals. We assumed it would be upbeat and energetic. The incorporated a few hip hop moves but it was far from the urban production we thought we paid for. We were highly disappointed.

    Not impressed

by RJB on 12/26/22DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

I was disappointed in the show. The opening by Kurtis Blow and the dj was honestly the best part. It would’ve been nice if the show incorporated some hip hop music (which it did not). Also would’ve been nice to have some sort of guide to understand the scenes but nothing was provided. By intermission it felt the dances were mundane and continually sliding across the stage. I didn’t bother to return for the send half. My expectations for the show were much higher than the show itself.

Loved the show, and performance overall

by Kelli on 12/26/22DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

The host and interaction was powerful , fun and exciting. We love the dancing and performing. We Believe it may be a little outdated and want to see the songs remixed to fit dancing. Overall great experience

    Nice for kids.

by Jp on 12/26/22DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

Great show for kids. It doesn’t have the glam that some of the other DPAC shows have, with wardrobe changes, scenery changes, etc. but perfect for a family event.

    Waste of money

by Al on 12/26/22Chrysler Hall - Norfolk

We left during intermission; As did half the audience. It was boring and the storyline was lacking. There was so much potential to do better but they dropped the ball. Side note the vilionists were great.

I thought Kurtis Blow was the whole show.

by JC on 12/21/22New Jersey Performing Arts Center - Newark

Kurtis Blow’s opening was the entire show for me. He hyped us up, but the rest of the show let us down. When Kurtis Blow left the stage, the show took a fast nose dive. Unfortunately, I honestly thought the dancers were lackluster and boring. I’m sure you have heard this constructive criticism before. Having said that, please invest in better dancers and incorporate Hip-Hop music along with the classical. This show had so much potential and I find it hard to believe it won awards.

    Left at intermission.

by Nick on 12/21/22New Jersey Performing Arts Center - Newark

Unfortunately, this was not the show that my family and I were expecting. The story was unclear and promoted things like drinking which I did not expect for my younger family to see. The opener was unclear and really not a positive way to start the show. The performance was sloppy and the choreography was poor. I am so disappointed because I thought that it would have been up to the same standards as the movie.

    Boring

by Tracie on 12/20/22Chrysler Hall - Norfolk

Hip hop dance should never be paired with ballet music. Give the show some color. Left at intermission.

It was not a professional performance !

by Unhappy customer on 12/20/22New Jersey Performing Arts Center - Newark

Back drop poor was not high quality! Dancers reminded me of middle school performance, We tried to leave before intermission but left soon as intermission began. I brought 5 tickets at one of the top prices and no one in my group was pleased. I thought it would be be a great holiday experience.

Maybe my expectations were too high?

by Am I wrong? on 12/20/22New Jersey Performing Arts Center - Newark

When I saw that there was a “Hip Hop” version of the Nutcracker, I was pretty thrilled. I thought what at great way to encourage folks from different backgrounds to come together and experience our individual cultures. I got the hip hop dance but I was missing hip hop music. I honestly thought that there would be hip hop version of Tchaikovskys work. Three stars because of the dancers skill and the production value but I can’t get over being disappointed with getting the original music.

This was a terrific experience. I never thought you can combine hip hop and the nutcracker but these guys nailed it!!!! The whole family loved it. Got to hear some old school hip hop as well. We can’t forget the legend Kurtis Blow. Well done everyone!!!!!

    Great show!

by AmyK on 12/20/22New Jersey Performing Arts Center - Newark

This is one of our favorite shows this year. The MC and DJ did great job warming up the crowd and the show itself was amazing. We enjoyed this better than the traditional nutcracker.

    Needs more hip-hop

by Washman6044 on 12/20/22New Jersey Performing Arts Center - Newark

The show was good, dancing was good, violinist was great, and the DJ was good, but didn't have a chance to really show his talent. Curtis Blow ended the show on a good, upbeat hip-hop fashion. However, I couldn't get the hip-hop dancing to the classical music. Though there were some hints of hip-hop mixed in at times, I thought that there needed to be more. That is what I was expecting of it.
