Great show. I could never watch the ballet version. Audience was included in dancing and singing. Don’t get front row seats at DPAC though. We couldn’t see ANYTHING center stage due to the large speakers sitting on the stage. You pay a lot more money to get front row seats and we couldn’t see. We missed so much of the show.
Well first off Hip Hop Nutcracker so be prepared for a DJ, loud thumping music to get you up and out of your seat. Yes, you still have the story line which is so sweet, but with lots of twists and turns. The interpretive dancing with hip hop beats and all styles mixed in gives this such a great vibe. You cannot go without getting that throwback nostalgic feeling and it will leave you feeling highly satisfied from such great entertainment and high energy. Enjoy!
The dancing was just ok. There is absolutely no story line that can be followed. Do not recommend.
We loved the first part with the DJ and dance party but didn’t realize the Nutcracker music would be the original Tchaikovsky at a *very* high volume level as opposed to hip hop music. With kids, it was much too loud and we left at intermission.
It was amazing. Everyone was awesome from the DJ, Violinists,Dancers to the MC Curtis Blow it was a must see event. I absolutely loved it.
We took our 6 year old granddaughter to the Hip Hop Nutcracker and it is an experience we will always cherish. The choreography was excellent, the dancers were spectacular and the audience was terrific! Thank you for putting on this wonderful show.
One of the most culturally exciting shows loved seeing hip hop mixing with Tchaikovsky entire performance was a-mazing and the violinist ‘has skills’ Curtis Blow started things off right … enjoyed entire evening.
I came into the performance with an open mind. The dancers were extremely talented and transformed the Nutcracker wonderfully. The violinist was also superb. Very entertaining show!

Great show, cast was amazing, Curtis Blow was great MC, the DJs old school music selection were great, my grandson and I really enjoyed the show.
Loved Kurtis Blow and his tribute to Hip Hop…I mean it’s Kurtis Blow!! I hadn’t heard or done much research on the Hip Hop Nutcracker, I wanted an unbiased experience. Well…I had already formed my bias because I was expecting to hear some hip hop influence in the music. I had no idea there would be no music influence throughout the show with the exception of an extremely talented violinist. The dancer are AMAZING. The overall experience left me wanting to hear how an adaptation of the Nutcracker included the music portion of Hip Hop.
Everything waa so organized....everyone was so friendly...I was truly impressed
The absolute worst part of the entire event was ticketing, ticket master is horrible to work with , their people are broken records of canned answers with the worst attitude, if this venue continues to use Ticketmaster I will not go to any events there.

While I didn’t walk out of Hip Hop Nutcracker, it didn’t have much energy either. Routines were blah. I was hoping to see more group dancing instead of the couples dancing. Dancing lacked energy.
Great energy throughout performance. Fantastic audience engagement. Dancing was absolutely superb! Good showcase of all dancers in group. From start to finish - this was a whole lot of festive fun!!
The Hip Hop Nutcracker was a great show. All of the performers played their role and told the story really well.
The show started late, it was a nice touch of starting it out with old skool hip hop but then the host yelled “ Saginaw” which mistakes happen but it just seemed really unorganized and not very great. The dancer could dance but after awhile they were doing the same dances and we also expected there to be some hip hop incorporated with the nutcracker originals. It was definitely not worth the money we paid and we left early. The show started late for a Sunday and also it started even later because they didn’t seem to have a sense of urgency starting on time we left at intermission.
