South Carolina Gamecocks Women’s Basketball History
The South Carolina Gamecocks women’s basketball team is one of the most prestigious programs in the country. Legendary head coach Dawn Staley has built a perennial powerhouse, making South Carolina one of the elite teams in women’s college basketball year after year. In her 17-year tenure, Staley has led the Gamecocks to 13 NCAA Tournaments, winning three of them including the program’s first in 2017. Additionally, South Carolina has won nine SEC regular season championships and nine SEC tournaments, and has appeared in 15 Sweet Sixteens and seven Final Fours overall. The Gamecocks captured their second National Championship in 2022, then went undefeated (38-0) for the first time in school history en route to their third title in 2024, followed by their fourth National Championship game appearance in 2025.

The University of South Carolina Gamecocks play at Colonial Life Arena, an on-campus venue that opened in 2002. The arena holds 18,000 for basketball games. Besides being the home of the Gamecocks’ men’s and women’s basketball teams, Colonial Life Arena hosts the South Carolina High School Basketball Championships every year.

South Carolina and Mississippi State women's basketball is one of the great rivalries in the NCAA and it lived up to its reputation. With South Carolina ranked #1 and Mississippi State #9, the game remained exciting for the whole 40 minutes. South Carolina won by 2 with both teams keeping you on the edge of your seat.
The experience was incredible. Colonial life arena is a must see. That atmosphere is second to none, on top of the 18,000 fan sellout at a girls basketball game alot of people outside of this state may not realize the best college baseball rivalry in the country was taking place at the same time a few blocks away. The Carolina/Clemson baseball game was a sellout and then some with the maximum capacity seating plus thousands of standing room only fans in attendance. I will give your blue bloods of basketball and there atmosphere and areans all the respect in the world but i highly doubt any of those universities could sell out both venues at the same time for a championship game for a regular season title and a bitter rival who sports writers have compared to the Yankees and red Sox of college baseball. Incredible fans and facilities, they have done exceptional work on every upgrade imaginable down to softball and beach volleyball.

They had a game plan and they stuck to it. They email the parking plan the day before so there was no mystery when you got to the stadium. In the stadium was arraigned so where ever you had to go, you could find it with no problem. The seats were arraigned so you had unobstructed view of the action on the court.
It was great. Wish the seats were a little bigger or had more room between each. Tight quarters!
Great environment for basketball. Gamecock Women are always fun to watch. Get there early to avoid big traffic tie-ups.

This was a great game. USC struggled a little in the beginning, but Monica stepped up and sealed the "W" against Georgia.

Watching Dawn Staley's Gamecocks is easily the best atmosphere in women's basketball, college or professional. There are 15,000+ at almost every game, and they are always vocal. The area is electric leading up to the game, to the point that the bars and restaurants start filling up at 3:30-4:00, even on workdays. The Colonial Life Arena is perfectly located on the southern edge of the Vista entertainment district, with campus to the East and main traffic arteries to the South and West. There is no better setup for a night of basketball.
This was the first game that I have ever been to support the women's basketball team. I decided to treat my parents as well and we had a great time. The excitement of the game and from the fans were awesome. We are now thinking about purchasing season tickets. Go gamecocks!!
It was a great game. Carolina play excellent ball. The worst part was the horrible officiating. I'm a Kentucky fan but Carolina got numerous bad calls and I haven't heard a reason yet for the technical called. Carolina has a great coach and the team work well together. Now if the officiating will get on track that would help.
The lady gamecocks were fantastic and the crowd added to the vibe of the game.
