South Carolina Gamecocks Women’s Basketball History
The South Carolina Gamecocks women’s basketball team is one of the most prestigious programs in the country. Legendary head coach Dawn Staley has built a perennial powerhouse, making South Carolina one of the elite teams in women’s college basketball year after year. In her 17-year tenure, Staley has led the Gamecocks to 13 NCAA Tournaments, winning three of them including the program’s first in 2017. Additionally, South Carolina has won nine SEC regular season championships and nine SEC tournaments, and has appeared in 15 Sweet Sixteens and seven Final Fours overall. The Gamecocks captured their second National Championship in 2022, then went undefeated (38-0) for the first time in school history en route to their third title in 2024, followed by their fourth National Championship game appearance in 2025.

The University of South Carolina Gamecocks play at Colonial Life Arena, an on-campus venue that opened in 2002. The arena holds 18,000 for basketball games. Besides being the home of the Gamecocks’ men’s and women’s basketball teams, Colonial Life Arena hosts the South Carolina High School Basketball Championships every year.
