They say fashion is cyclical... and theyâre right. Truly amazing things never go out of style, regardless of when they first popped up. Totoâs tune âAfricaâ is one of these things. First heard in 1982, this masterpiece of popular prog has been a staple of pop culture since release. Taken from their massive second album Toto IV, it combined their other calling card Rosanna to introduce Toto to a massive audience. That record would go on to win several Grammy Awards and establish a base from which the band grew into one of the most prolific and durable acts in modern music history. Musically mind blowing and with more hits that you can poke a stick at, thereâs no doubt that people will ask âwhere were you when Toto played Festival Hall?â for years to come.
One word - AMAZING đ€© Fantastic show. They sounded exactly the same as they did years ago. A change in their original members showed no differences in their performance.
The SOUND BOARD guy is controlling my experience. I had great seats; front 1/3rd; center stage. When the BASS was not too loud, sound quality was good but there was one song where the Speakers were rattling! That's DISTORTION and bad sound is the result. Band performance was acceptable but not nearly as TIGHT as their studio albums. Overall enjoyable....just wish they had a better sound system that would produce the bass without robbing the system of band-width and sound quality.
I've never been one to complain about a nice thunderous punch in the chest from a kick drum. Unfortunately for Toto and everyone who went in this instance not only was the kick too loud, it was tonally out of control creating a thunderous roar that impeded everyone's ability to hear Joe's vocals and Steve's amazing guitar playing. The music was completely lost on the sound guys attempt to create thunder inside the auditorium. Toto is always has and always will be about quality production a tight solid mix featuring vocals guitars etc. The kick drum was ludicrous. Just because you can shake the walls doesn't mean you should. I can't imagine being the sound guy for Toto and not being told not to bury Luke's guitar or Joe's vocal, but clearly that's what happened here. The band was great, the backing track was a little obvious, however it was a really enjoyable show other than the unnecessarily loud rumble from what should have been a nice tight punchy kick.
The music they played was good. Most of the hits, some covers and some obscure songs from the vault. The show was less than 2 hours and there was no encore. Kind of disappointing. I wouldn't go see them again.
Vocally and musically, one of the best bands EVER. My only complaint was the set selection. With their incredible library of hits, would have liked more of them .
Not a bad seat, could hear and see everything just great!!
MGM Northfield, April 18th. TOTO never disappoints!! I have yet to see them when I wasn't blown away. Musicianship way beyond the norm with no lip synching and 25 dancers on stage...just real musicians playing real instruments. What a concept!!!
I have been. toto fan only life and never had an opportunity to see them. Last year I started a bucket list of artist I wanted to see and Toto was on that list. After learning I had cancer last year seeing the artists on that list became even more of must for me. I normally go to shows with someone but this show I purchased myself 1 ticket, center stage 2nd row. Weird thing is a fried of mine that I haven't seen in almost 30 yrs had the seat next to me. Toto did all their classics and my favorite "I'll be over you"(and yes I was the only person standing up during that song, not sorry if I blocked your view). That ticket was worth every bit I paid for it. I would see this band again if/when they come through again and time allows me. The little tidbits the band shared about the members gives a music history geek like me "oh really/wow"factor. The band didn't need lights and smoke and anything else bands do these days during shows. It was a real deal intimate feeling show and the band took your through the journey of their music catalog. I am still in awe.
I'll be honest-- I only knew about 3 of their songs but I had an amazing time. They had such a natural stage presence that was so fun to watch. You could tell that they all really enjoy what they do and THAT is what made them so fun to watch. I'm still walking around humming "Africa"days after the show! Just so much fun. The lighting and camera work for the big screens were also really good. I was in row "U"and feel like there really aren't any bad seats in the house. Great show. Thank you, Toto, for putting a smile on my face. I had such a great time.
Amazing musicians, really did a nice job. Didnât know how great of a guitar player the white haired guy was prior to seeing him.
It was my wife and myself's first time at a MGM concert. Inside was alot different then I imagined. Sat in section 6. The show was great! The sound was crisp, band was fantastic. The whole evening was a great experience. Can't wait to go back.
Toto was great!!!! The venue at MGM Northfield Park was perfect as well. There is not a bad seat.
100% real live musicians. All session musicians for decades. I will see Toto as along as they are playing! Yes they played all their hits but the real gems of their shows are when they are simply jamming!! Steve L and crew you truly are the best!!
Legendary musicians and vocalists. There is no substitute for Steve's guitar, Joseph's vocals, Greg and Steve's keyboards and vocals, Warren's percussion, vocals and sax. John laying down the bass foundation and Shannon's intense grooves throughout the entire set. Last but certainly NOT least the sound engineering of Ken Freeman, without his masterful touch all this talent would not be experienced in all its glory. In addition, the lights were the best I've ever experienced at. Toto MGM concert. Bravo!
Concert was fantastic. They are awesome and each member is so talented! Joe Williams voice is top notch and seats were great!
Toto put on a great concert. A few too many unknown songs to most of us but the talent from the musicians came through on all of the songs.
Awesome band had a great time my brother and I went to this concert. It was easy to get there easy to get out. The seating was great very helpful in finding our seating. All I can say was this was one of the better venues I have been to and Iâve been to a lot of them.
Caught them in Ft. Wayne and they were amazing! Rocked it out the whole time! We loved the whole thing. Incredible singers and musicians!!
Great show! Toto never disappoints. I would see them anytime they are in town.
I was expecting the carefully crafted blended vocals of Toto that I came to know and love. On occasion, you could hear of hint of the old greatness. Instead, Toto has evolved into a hard rock band. Instead of harmonic voices, all I could hear was vocalists screaming into the microphone. The bass drum thumping was so over amplified that it hurt your chest. Left the concert after about 50 minutes. If only I had known......
