About

Tootsie is a Tony Award-winning stage production of director Sydney Pollack’s beloved 1982 comedy film. Like Pollack’s film, the musical revolves around a struggling soap actor who adopts a new identity as a woman to land more roles, while serving as a love letter to Broadway. Tootsie features a Tony-winning book by Robert Horn and a score by 2018 Tony winner David Yazbek (The Band’s Visit). The musical premiered in September 2018 at the Cadillac Palace Theatre in Chicago before premiering on Broadway in April 2019. Tootsie is now touring across North America, with a regional premiere at the Ogunquit Playhouse in Ogunquit, Maine. The cast has included Drew Becker as Michael Dorsey and Dorothy Michaels, Ashley Alexandra as Julie Nichols, Payton Reilly as Sandy Lester, Lukas James Miller as Max Von Horn, Jared David Michael Grant as Jeff Slater, Kathy Halenda as Rita Marshall, Steve Brustien as Stan Fields and Adam du Plessis as Ron Carlisle.

    Amazingly amazing

    by L. O. on 2/25/23

I had a blast when I went to watch the show, a lot of hilarious jokes, one thing that slightly ruined the seating, I had orchestra right, I could see backstage and 1/4 of the stage was cut off, other than that amazing.

    It was not good

by Varditer on 2/21/23Mark C. Smith Concert Hall at the Von Braun Center - Huntsville

I am really disappointed of the concert hall, so I couldn’t even enjoy the show. The seats I bought in the middle upstairs, during the break time, concert hall attendants came to me and asked to change my seats to the left side, it’s empty no one there, they wanted to give my seats to another customers. I really can’t understand why I am choosing seats if I will sit wherever is empty. I was told that they checked with the ticket box my seats were not occupied so they can give it to someone else. If I don’t buy a ticket from the concert hall ticket box so easily I can be reseat to the worse seat.

    Disappointed

by Marie on 2/21/23Mark C. Smith Concert Hall at the Von Braun Center - Huntsville

Tootsie was a huge disappointment to me and my 3 seatmates. The performance was lackluster and terribly slow. While the actors are talented, this did not allow them to shine! In 2o years of Huntsville life, this was the worst play we have attended. We left at Intermission.

    It was really funny!

by Ru on 1/18/23Robinson Performance Hall - Little Rock

Being an avid fan of the movie and seeing it about 50 times, it took me a minute to get into the musical production. The characters were so different and the job Michael Dorsey got was way different. But after I slapped myself and said this is NOT the movie, I totally enjoyed it!!!!!

    Disappointed

by Penny on 1/17/23Robinson Performance Hall - Little Rock

This play was below the standards I expect when going to the auditorium to see a Broadway performance. Left at intermission. Needs great improvement.

    Enjoyable

by Doc on 1/17/23Robinson Performance Hall - Little Rock

A fun show, though dated in some ways, still very enjoyable. Great dancing. The only disappointing thing about this musical is that no song is memorable.

    Disappointing

by MrsH on 1/16/23Robinson Performance Hall - Little Rock

To say this play was mediocre is an understatement. Lead woman had a great voice but that could not carry this excuse for a "Broadway" production above 1 star. One whole song was devoted to the F word. Best lines were lifed directly from the movie and the rest was simply so strained it was embarrasing to behold.

    My 1st ever Comedy Musical!

by Skyguy on 1/8/23Tennessee Theatre - Knoxville

If you’re looking for a musical play that has lots of laugh, this one is a must see! For me, it’s like a de ja vu trip to classic movie “Mrs.Doubtfire,” and stage sets like almost transported to classic tv show “Friends” I enjoyed a lot and eager to see it again soon. The only reason why I gave 4 stars is that some musical lines were too fast to grasp, but overall you’ll net get dull at all!

    Excellent show overall

by Suzanne on 1/8/23Tennessee Theatre - Knoxville

The lead actor and several others were very strong--singing, dancing, and acting. "Juliette" was weak, except for having a lovely voice. Instrument/vocal balance was well done (in contrast to Jesus Christ Superstar in which the orchestra drowned out the lyrics almost entirely). Imaginative set work. The book is a little heavy handed with the PC stuff (and I am a Democrat), but overall works very well, I think.

Not as good as when I saw it in Chicago a few years ago.

    by Kx3 on 1/7/23Tennessee Theatre - Knoxville

I was honestly a little disappointed in this play. There was far too much singing that just wasn’t relevant to the play. The part of the director was so overacted it was hard to watch. Actually there were several parts that were overacted. A couple from our party actually left after the first half. After an extra long intermission, the second half was a little better. My husband and I saw this play in Chicago a few years ago and I remember it being so much funnier.

    Fabulous in every aspect

The choreography, the set, the humor, the clothes—all together made for a terrific show! Even better than expected!

    Fun

by Michelle on 12/4/22E.J. Thomas Hall - The University of Akron - Akron

Great show except it didn't really follow the movie as I thought it was going to. Still good though. The sound at the beginning of the show was a little low and couldn't really understand when they were talking, but it seemed to get better as the show progressed.
