About

Tootsie is a Tony Award-winning stage production of director Sydney Pollack’s beloved 1982 comedy film. Like Pollack’s film, the musical revolves around a struggling soap actor who adopts a new identity as a woman to land more roles, while serving as a love letter to Broadway. Tootsie features a Tony-winning book by Robert Horn and a score by 2018 Tony winner David Yazbek (The Band’s Visit). The musical premiered in September 2018 at the Cadillac Palace Theatre in Chicago before premiering on Broadway in April 2019. Tootsie is now touring across North America, with a regional premiere at the Ogunquit Playhouse in Ogunquit, Maine. The cast has included Drew Becker as Michael Dorsey and Dorothy Michaels, Ashley Alexandra as Julie Nichols, Payton Reilly as Sandy Lester, Lukas James Miller as Max Von Horn, Jared David Michael Grant as Jeff Slater, Kathy Halenda as Rita Marshall, Steve Brustien as Stan Fields and Adam du Plessis as Ron Carlisle.

  • Great show

This show was great! We love the movie and this show did not disappoint at all. Highly recommend.

  • Fun but not spectacular

by SRG on 6/28/23Orpheum Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 3 out of 5

There were lots of very funny scenes and the singing was excellent - especially Julie. The acting was good but I have seen better in other shows. Nothing will ever live up to the movie but I was glad that I went. The handling of tickets and security was fine and it went remarkably well given the other activities going on at the same time, especially the Pride Parade.

  • Had a great time

The play was funny, the orchestra did a terrific job and the actors were good. I watched the movie long time ago and didn't realize it was so funny. Maybe the writers of this play made it funnier and the actors did a great job.

  • Yeah Supporting Actors

by CS on 6/27/23Orpheum Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 4 out of 5

Music was fine, but not memorable. Both lead actor and actress were subpar. Supporting actors were fantastic! Hilarious!

  • Tootsie

The show was GREAT! So much wonderful talent. The seating was awful. We sat in row DD in the first and second seats from the aisle and thought since it said that the seating was slanted in that area, we would be okay. However, the two people in front of us were very tall and we could not see the stage at all from directly behind them. My friend leaned into the aisle to see around the person in front of her and I would have to move my head back and forth depending on where the gentleman in front of me had his head positioned. There were times I couldn't see the stage at all. So disappointing and I know that who you sit behind is not predictable by the theater but, saying that the floor starts to slant at a certain point is a bit misleading. Thank you.

  • Ok…

by Thundermn on 6/26/23Orpheum Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 3 out of 5

It was ok at best. I didn’t feel that the music for the most part was that memorable. The male lead had a weak voice. However, the female lead had a beautiful strong voice. Wish they could have paired her with another lead that was as equally impressive

  • Tootsie lead tooted

by Broadway fan on 6/26/23Orpheum Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 4 out of 5

Entire cast was exemplary; however, the Tootsie lead had expressions, he lacked the range, volume, and finesse to carry off both roles. Totally laughed and loved the Broadway interpretation/screenplay.

  • Problematic

by Jeff on 6/25/23Orpheum Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 1 out of 5

This show was so outdated especially for being written so recently. I was very dissappointed in the blatant transphobia and was sad this was the show they brought durijg pride weekend.

  • Funny book, needed more from leads

by Brookester on 6/25/23Orpheum Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 4 out of 5

Show was pleasant with great supporting cast moments. Lots of laugh aloud lines. I needed more from Michael/Dorothy acting and singing wise. Energy was lacking and volume/range seemed like a challenge. Lead Julie was on point in that world making her costar seem smaller. That’s the only area I would try to enhance that would make this show hit harder. Source material has limits but this gap could be filled a bit.

  • Night out

by Cmcc on 6/25/23Orpheum Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 3 out of 5

We thought tootsie was ok! It was entertaining but seemed to lack in the story line & interest of the whole musical. We walked out saying it was just kind of blah! Almost everything we’ve seen at the Orpheum is extraordinary but not this one!
