the band played so well to the open, woodsy venue. It was just beautiful. Jakob was warm, kind, and friendly. Outstanding!
The quartet played a nice selection of well writtin songs including some of my favorites: Josephine, Difference, 3 Marlenas, and really connected with the crowd on the hits -- 6th Ave Heartache and especially One Headlight.. But it took them a while to really gel and I wonder why the magic they offered on One Headlight couldn't be consistently hit throughout the show. Except for a couple of songs I think they sound better on CD then live.
The guys were fabulous as always! Nice rearrangement of the old songs and just and overall awesome performance.
Jakob and the band played almost all there songs. We loved the entire concert. The song we enjoy but did not hear was Josephine. Every other one was sung. At times the instrumentals made it difficult to hear all the vocals, but this band is so instrumentally great that not hearing all the vocals did not detract from our enjoyment!
The concert was one of the best I have seen, and I would like to thank Jakob and the Wallflowers for finally coming to the Jacksonville area. I have been waiting a long time for them to make it down here and it was everything I expected and more!
First half of the concert was musically solid and performed with heart. But the second half was absolutely INSPIRED. Jakob Dylan rocked hard, went deep and took us with him. This is a no frills show. It was all about the music, and the band was on. These guys are extra sensitive to the audience - give them love and respect - they'll give you their all.
I do not know very many Wallflower songs; probably around 6-7. However, they still only did 4 of those more recognizable songs (One Headlight, 3 Marlenas, The Only Difference, 6th Avenue Heartache). I understand that a good concert is more than just a "greatest hits" collection; however, it seems odd that the setlist wouldn't include big hits like "Heroes." Jakob was friendly, and bantered with the small crowd that was at the Florida Theatre. However, he proved to be his father's child by making some song lyrics completely unintelligible, making it tough to enjoy the lesser-known songs. Admittedly, I'm just a "casual" Wallflowers fan... So my advice is to avoid this concert unless you own quite a few CD's, rather than just a collection of mp3's like me.
We went to see the band to hear the songs we know, I don't care at all to hear songs that are new and have had no air play, got bored and left early
I am so glad I went out on a Mon night, even though I'm beat now. Jacob and the boys did not disappoint. They are such talented guys and I hope you will do what you can to make sure they come back to Jax very soon! There were times I couldn't help but think"he sure sounds like his Dad when he hits that note" but he probably gets tired of hearing that. I've always been a fan and now will anxiously await the next CD and next concert. If you weren't there you're square.
Excellent show - tight band - great music!!! The Wallflowers played a mix of old and new music that allowed everyone to enjoy their unique blend of rock/melodic blends. I was truly amazed that they could create such a bold sound with just a 5 piece band. They started on time and rocked the house!
The music was mellow and the interaction between all the players was very good.
Great Concert, Great Place, Great Drinks....Overall, I loved it!
I liked The Wallflowers but now I love them!!! The concert was awesome, Jakob's voice was as interesting and haunting as usual, or even better... The sound was great, the place was perfect, everything went just as expected, and the band rocked House of Blues!!!
I had never been to the House of Blues before. I really liked it, I prefer the smaller venues. Beware though that if you sit at the tables people are free to stand in front of you and block your view and there is nothing you or the staff can do about it. The Wallflowers were awsome. Jacob Dylan sounds just like he did 12 years ago and he was really nice and let people take flash pictures. The opening act was great too, very sweet accoustic music, I wish I had bought their CD.
Excellent show. Choice of songs was fantastic. The downside - no spots on the band members. With Dylan's hat, it was almost impossible to see his face - even from 50 feet away.
The Wallflowers were great in person. I enjoy their music on CD, but their live performance exceeded my expectations. They played essentially what amounted to their greatest hits. I enjoyed the lead singer's engagement of the audience, the song selection and the atmosphere.
Jakob was very chatty with the audience from the moment he stepped on stage. He played a great setlist, some of which was requested by the audience. Stuart Mathis was absolutely genius on the electric; the performance wouldn't have been half as good without him. I just wish the group had jammed out more. They're too modest at times. Audiences usually love to see groups go wild on the guitar. That all being said, these guys can still rock. The only song I was disappointed with was 6th Avenue Heartache. It was obvious that it's not Jakob's favorite number. In fact, it was so mellowed out that the audience couldn't really even sing along or get into it. The rest, however? Fantastic. I wish I had another opportunity to see them again!
The sound was terrible . it sucked . On the most ot Dylans Lyrics , as well as the opening act , you could not understand the Lyrics . Very bad PA system !! I walked around and listened from sides. middle , and top and bottom floors . The sound sucked . I will never go back to house of blues in Myrtle Beach , unless they fix the sound . Jacob Dylan and his band were great .
the boys played just 3 of their hits -- rest of the show devoted to slow, obscure tunes that few people at the show could get into. Too bad -- they could've have whipped the crowd into a frenzy by comin' on strong, and then dabbled some.
