THE BRILLIANT ORIGINAL RETURNS "MORE SPECTACULAR THAN EVER" - Sunday Express

The Phantom is back to thrill audiences once again! Cameron Mackintosh presents a revitalized new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's legendary musical, THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, which was rapturously received by London critics when it reopened in 2021. Featuring Maria Björnson's brilliant original design and based on the celebrated direction of Harold Prince, with musical staging and choreography by Gillian Lynne, PHANTOM will launch a new multi-year North American tour in November 2025, premiering at the Cadillac Palace Theatre in Chicago December 11, 2025 - February 1, 2026.

THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA is widely considered one of the most beautiful and spectacular productions in history, playing to over 160 million people in 47 territories and 195 cities in 21 languages. Andrew Lloyd Webber's romantic, haunting, and soaring score includes "The Music of the Night," "All I Ask of You," "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again," "Masquerade," and the iconic title song. It tells the tale of a disfigured musical genius known only as 'The Phantom' who haunts the depths of the Paris Opera House. Mesmerized by the talents and beauty of a young soprano, Christine, The Phantom lures her as his protégé and falls fiercely in love with her. Unaware of Christine's love for Raoul, The Phantom's obsession sets the scene for a dramatic turn of events where jealousy, madness, and passions collide.

  • Awesome Phantom

by tcchibroadway on 1/9/17Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

This was an exceptional performance. The power and emotion displayed by Derrick Davis as the Phantom was awesome. I thought Katie Travis, as Christine, fell a little short. She has a wonderful soprano voice, but lacks the power and trembling emotion needed for the role. The set design was inspired and gave a fresh approach to keeping pace with the story. I did feel a little disappointed with the power the Chandelier played in this production. All in all a truly great performance.

  • Phantom Delight

by Ladyblanche on 1/8/17Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

The weather was freezing cold but the play made up for it. Second time seeing the Phantom but this one was a little different and that was great. Music beautiful and stage setting right on. It was a great evening for all six of us, as no one had anything negative to say. Would see it again in a couple of years.

  • Absolutely phenomenal.

The voices were amazing, the music was outstanding, and the set was so dynamic. These actors and actresses were so talented and excellently chosen for their roles. I loved every second.

What an incredible production. Derrick Davis is the best Phantom I've seen, and the cast supports him. A lot of fun for any audience member and awe-inspiring for broadway aficionados

  • Fabulous Phantom

I have seen Phantom four times and this rendition was outstanding. The leads had wonderful voices and the sets were amazing.

  • Not a real orchestra

by Preferrealinstruments on 1/7/17Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

I can't call a few stringed instruments supplemented with 3 keyboards an orchestra. Don't get me wrong, for what they had they were great. But they didn't have much to work with. Somewhere along the line someone cheaped out. Which is okay...except for the prices we paid!

  • Disappointed

by Anonymous on 1/7/17Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

After enjoying The Phantom of the Opera on several previous occasions and in different locations (including the stunning production in Toronto, Canada, I'm sorry to report this this performance was a disappointment. The main concern was simply that the actors couldn't be understood. The volume level was more than adequate (in fact the stage/orchestra balance at times favored the orchestra at the expense of the actors) but the words were unintelligible for the most part. You could tell others were having the same problem because the audience reactions to the comedic moments were "muted" at best. I'm not prepared to place blame but we've had similar problems at Cadillac Palace in the past. However, the recent Finding Neverland production was perfectly understandable so I can't really blame the venue. Further, the cast was not the strongest we've enjoyed in previous productions of Phantom. Some of it had to do with the basic casting but, again, because of the lack of understanding, the characters just didn't come across with the clarity we've experienced before. I realize and appreciate that, as a touring show, one can't expect the same extraordinary staging and special effects of a resident production so we'll excuse those shortcomings. All that said, if you haven't attended Phantom before I'm sure you'll enjoy this production. It will definitely be to your advantage if you're already familiar with the lyrics.

We loved it. I have seen Phantom before. It's such a beautiful emotional rollercoaster of a story. The cast was amazing! We had the understudy for Christine and she was amazing. Voices were spot on and beautiful. So much talent. No complaints. Would definitely recommend seeing this show.

I have seen this play 4 times and this may have been the best. The actors really portrayed the story beautifully and where you really understood exactly what was being said or sung to each other. Of course beautiful music . Bravo every moment !

We have seen Phantom previously in both New York and Chicago, and in some ways this was the best we've seen! The voices (as always) were outstanding, and the revolving set was really spectacular. A first-rate production.

The musical itself was fantastic. The singing was incredible. However; if there was one thing I could have changed...it was the temperature in the theatre!! It was SO HOT!! But again, the performance was FANTASTIC!!!
