THE BRILLIANT ORIGINAL RETURNS "MORE SPECTACULAR THAN EVER" - Sunday Express

The Phantom is back to thrill audiences once again! Cameron Mackintosh presents a revitalized new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's legendary musical, THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, which was rapturously received by London critics when it reopened in 2021. Featuring Maria Björnson's brilliant original design and based on the celebrated direction of Harold Prince, with musical staging and choreography by Gillian Lynne, PHANTOM will launch a new multi-year North American tour in November 2025, premiering at the Cadillac Palace Theatre in Chicago December 11, 2025 - February 1, 2026.

THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA is widely considered one of the most beautiful and spectacular productions in history, playing to over 160 million people in 47 territories and 195 cities in 21 languages. Andrew Lloyd Webber's romantic, haunting, and soaring score includes "The Music of the Night," "All I Ask of You," "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again," "Masquerade," and the iconic title song. It tells the tale of a disfigured musical genius known only as 'The Phantom' who haunts the depths of the Paris Opera House. Mesmerized by the talents and beauty of a young soprano, Christine, The Phantom lures her as his protégé and falls fiercely in love with her. Unaware of Christine's love for Raoul, The Phantom's obsession sets the scene for a dramatic turn of events where jealousy, madness, and passions collide.

  • Great Performance

by JamesFamily on 1/14/14Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Magnificent scenery changes without any interruption. Outstanding singing by entire cast. Suggestion: get first balcony or main floor seats. The stage is small and looks even smaller from far back.

  • Fantastic!

Enjoyed The Phantom of the Opera in Chicago this past weekend. Took my 18 yr old Granddaughter and she loved it. Our seats were fantastic and the Cadiillac Palace is beautiful! The set was great to see!

Do not change the original story. ERIK taking off his mask? It would never happen. And hiw Christine didn't say goodbye to him? Tragic.

  • Spine-tingling Performance

by SuziAnn on 1/14/14Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

This is the first production I have seen of Phantom of the Opera and I must say it was amazing! My daughter said it was her favorite play that she has ever seen (which have been many over the years - both here and abroad). The set was fascinating, the music brought one to tears it was so beautiful, the costuming was magnificent, and the performers were outstanding. I would definitely recommend this production.

  • Cheap

    by 1qwe1 on 1/14/14Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 2 out of 5

This was my 8th time to see POTO. 7 Times wonderful. London, Miami, Chicago, New York, San Francisco. This one was produced the the accountants and made cheap. The chandelier was wimpy and the ending was insulting. Where was the chair? While there were some good points in that some scenery came and went in style and the disappearing stairs were neat, overall it was just a cheapened version. The two leading women were excellent but the sound system was not. We were in the Loge and I was hoodwinked. I asked if those seat were going to allow me to see everything. Only saw the chandelier at the bottom of its travel and could not see the people acting/singing up top. Just had to guess. I brought 12 guests (11 plus me) to proudly see this. They were also disappointed. Overcharged. If I had been by myself I would have walked out the minute I sat down and realized I could not see. If I thought getting my money back was an option I would do that.

  • Phantom of the Opera was wonderful!

by ofdalion on 1/14/14Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

My granddaughter recently turned 16 and I wanted her to experience Phantom of the Opera from a different perspective than when she had last seen it (8 years old). The play itself was amazing! Someone spilled large amount of wine on my granddaughter & me from above. Spent entire time smelling like wine & listening to lady behind us complaining about it. Other than that, it was a great experience! We loved Phantom and Christine so much!

  • Phantom proves itself yet again

    by DJQ414 on 1/14/14Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Phantom has been around for years, and it never disappoints. The singing was just like the CDs which I love! I don't like when they try to change the wording/music. Why mess with perfection? The actors' voices were outstanding. It was lovely, beautiful, heartbreaking, and heartwarming all at the same time. The ending was great - years ago, they had a slightly different ending, but this one was perfect.

  • 10yr Old enjoyed the performance! Had great seats

    by Bruno615 on 1/14/14Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

My 10yr old daughter enjoyed the performance. The 1st Act was a little diffilcult for her to follow as it moved quickly and some of the audio wasn't very clear (thick accents and microphone seemed a bit "thick"), but I was able to get her caught up. We both enjoyed the sets, costumes and overall singing. Madame Carlotta was our favorite. I wasn't very impressed with the performance of the Phantom. It seemed a bit overdone and a tad bit to feminine from perspective vs. romantic and anti-hero as I've seen it done before. Both the Phantom and Raoul were both very soft and dull. The company seemed more alive and exciting than those two actors together. Christine was fair. The orchestra and scenary was fabulous! Overall I liked the performance and our seats were just right.

  • Nice performance

by MaryNGolf on 1/14/14Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

I personally love Phantom of the Opera. I have seen it now 5 times (Las Vegas, London, New York, Chicago *twice). This is my favorite Broadway show. For the first Saturday night performance, I'm surprised Phantom was played by an understudy. The new set was nice. Improvement with the addition of the Chandelier. The Vegas show is still my favorite. I love the music.

There were technical difficulties, which I understand happens, but the intermission was not shortened, and I in turn missed my train because of it. Put a real damper on the evening.

  • Not Andrew Lloyd Webber's!

by KZumas on 1/14/14Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

Acting and Voices Awesome Costumes - Beautiful Orchestra - Wonderful Music and Story Flow disappointing Scenes with 4 songs sung at once confusing and unnerving

  • Phantom of opera was fantastic

by sonokursh on 1/14/14Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

Only problem was the seats were not offset so view was blocked by the persons head in front of us. But I had seen it before so just closed my eyes and listened. This costumes were wonderful, the singing fantastic!

  • Phantom is a must see.

The voices are incredible. The set is amazing! Find the time to escape the winter blues and see a great production.

The performance was wonderful. The lead male characters were able to sing with delicate tone and be heard and understood throughout the theatre. The stage transitions were smooth. The costumes were rich and beautiful. Nice pyrotechnics. The line to the ladies bathroom during intermission is an issue. Tell us about your seats field needs more character capability

This new production had the same music and script, but changed the sets. Having seen Phantom 5 times prior, I was both happy and disappointed in the new sets. Some scenery added to the story, and others drastically missed the mark. The show overall was good. I missed the original sets, at the same time was interesting to see a new twist.

  • The phantom of the opera was phantastic!

by Stingewade on 1/14/14Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

The set was amazing. I was afraid that it would not be as good as the movie but it was. The cast sounded just like the movie. I would definitely see it again.

Took my daughter and it was worth every penny to see her enjoy it so much!

  • New version frustrating

by Phatomlover on 1/14/14Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

I love Phantom of the Opera, the original. I didn't realize this was going to b a different version. Although the music is the same pretty much, the different take on the progression of the story was frustrating. The set was interesting and inventive with the big wall and stairs. Many at intermission were venting their frustration and disappointment as well. I will say in fairness, our daughter who had never seen Phantom loved it. I believe if u have the original to compare, it falls short. That seems to b the case in most "remakes."

  • Phantom of the Opera at its best!

by jeannemom on 1/14/14Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

I have seen this musical over 10 times, but this performance was by FAR the best I have seen! The musical talent was spectacular! I am sure they were enhanced by the newly installed sound system at the Cadillac Theater…. but no way could that be the only reason. I went with 3 others, all of us have seen Phantom several times in several locations. We all agree this was the BEST!!!!
