THE BRILLIANT ORIGINAL RETURNS "MORE SPECTACULAR THAN EVER" - Sunday Express
The Phantom is back to thrill audiences once again! Cameron Mackintosh presents a revitalized new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's legendary musical, THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, which was rapturously received by London critics when it reopened in 2021. Featuring Maria Björnson's brilliant original design and based on the celebrated direction of Harold Prince, with musical staging and choreography by Gillian Lynne, PHANTOM will launch a new multi-year North American tour in November 2025, premiering at the Cadillac Palace Theatre in Chicago December 11, 2025 - February 1, 2026.
THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA is widely considered one of the most beautiful and spectacular productions in history, playing to over 160 million people in 47 territories and 195 cities in 21 languages. Andrew Lloyd Webber's romantic, haunting, and soaring score includes "The Music of the Night," "All I Ask of You," "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again," "Masquerade," and the iconic title song. It tells the tale of a disfigured musical genius known only as 'The Phantom' who haunts the depths of the Paris Opera House. Mesmerized by the talents and beauty of a young soprano, Christine, The Phantom lures her as his protégé and falls fiercely in love with her. Unaware of Christine's love for Raoul, The Phantom's obsession sets the scene for a dramatic turn of events where jealousy, madness, and passions collide.
Produced by CAMERON MACKINTOSH with THE REALLY USEFUL GROUP
The dancers/singers/actors were incredibly talented. The orchestra played beautifully. I really had a memorable time, I wish I can see it again.
The show was wonderful! The actors/actresses sung beautifully! They are had beautiful voices. The set pieces were very creative and inventive! This show is a definite must see!
Spectacular venue and stunning visuals combined with vocals that ranged from soaring to gritty to softly intense. The 'new' production was obviously carefully designed to retain the look and feel of the original while bringing in new elements. I would happily go back repeatedly as it is impossible to absorb everything at one performance.
Phantom was just spectacular. So impressed with all the great talent in this musical. Would highly recommend attending it.
This was without question the best performance of Phantom of the Opera I've ever seen. I believe this was my seventh performance over the past 35 years. The Singing; Orchestra; Stage Sets; Lighting; and Special Effects were incredible.
I've seen Android Lloyd Weber's Hal Prince produced "Phantom" at least 7 other times. Cameron Mackintosh did an amazing job of humanizing the lead and creating a dichotomy between front-of-the-house and back-of-the-house at the theater. The stage redesign is quite incredible. The performers aren't the original London cast and are relatively new to the role, but they're very good.
There's many good version of the Phantom of the Opera but this has been one of the best I've seen. The effects are top notch, the acting/singing were very good, and the stage had this very cool rotating effect so they could switch scenes very quickly.
This was the third time I've seen Phantom and I never get tired of it. Each time it has been with a different cast and yet the performances are equally as fantastic. It was my girlfriend's first time and she absolutely loved it. It is a "don't miss".
Amazing voices. Great sets. Very moving performances
Phantom of the Opera was totally awesome. The fantastic sets, falling chandelier gave us chills. My only wish was that the two make leads should have switched roles. The Phantom even though he has a wonderful voice didnt carry the terror in his voice that I would have loved to have heard. Losing power at intermission was an added bonus!
I loved it, Always has been a favorite of mine and this performance of it did very well. How they did the set was so cool, parts where I was wondering how they were going to pull it off, they surely did. A must go see!
Good show-talented cast. I only gave 4 stars because I didn't like how the phantom was portrayed in this production, but overall a great show!!!!!
pluses: gorgeous singing fabulous sets and costumes a couple of bits of staging better explained the Phantom's "magic" (re: Carlotta and Joseph Buquet) minuses: in the ensemble pieces some of the voices got lost orchestra was occasionally a bit too loud and drowned out the singer
This is not a better version of Phantom. Considering the ticket prices, I wouldn't do it again. The best part of this version are the magnificent voices that were lovely & strong. Some lyrics have changed & stage dressings were ok, but nothing close to being as amazing as the original. We took folks who had never seen the event, bragging of the spectacular show, but in the end were disappointed. One last note- of you're someone who pays attention to costume & make up consistency, there was definitley some inconsistency with his mask off. I'd expect that from a high school performance, but not a professional one.
I am a big fan of Phantom and have seen it many times. I was very disappointed, especially in the ending. The ending was different than the original ending where the Phantom disappears from his chair and all that was left was the mask that had a spotlight on it. This time he disappears from the foot of the bed, which was very uneventful and took too long, and one of the actresses dug his mask out from the heap of cloth on the floor. You could hardly tell what it was because there was no spot on it and as she is looking for it, the curtain goes down so unless you know what is coming it was hard to tell what was happening. My sister went with and she had never seen it before and she didn't know what was happening, so I had to explain it to her. There were many other scenes that she needed an explanation because if you hadn't seen the production before, you would have been confused. I could keep writing much more, but I will stop here! Very disappointed!
The singing was beautiful! The sets were really cool. The Cadillac theater was very pretty and the seats were roomy. I did think the 2 male lead roles could have been a bit better in their acting but their singing was great.
BRAVO! Such a great show to see! I had waited ten years to see this show! The set and cast were brilliant! I would see it again and again! Even my husband was impressed and couldn't stop raving about the show! A must see!
This new production is far from the best version in past years. I have been to Phantom numerous times and this was the first time I was ever disappointed. Scaled down version loses the grandeur of the story. Some notable changes just make fans miss the original. Biggest regret is that the Phantom actor is not very good and is missing the passion of the role. There were no real stand-out performances. Music was great and probably only thing that saved it from being a waste of time and money.
Truly a wonderful show! I thought that the costumes and sets were just fantastic! What a great talented cast as well!
One of the best productions. A must see. Riveting, amazing, angelic voices. You would not want it to end
