THE BRILLIANT ORIGINAL RETURNS "MORE SPECTACULAR THAN EVER" - Sunday Express
The Phantom is back to thrill audiences once again! Cameron Mackintosh presents a revitalized new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's legendary musical, THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, which was rapturously received by London critics when it reopened in 2021. Featuring Maria Björnson's brilliant original design and based on the celebrated direction of Harold Prince, with musical staging and choreography by Gillian Lynne, PHANTOM will launch a new multi-year North American tour in November 2025, premiering at the Cadillac Palace Theatre in Chicago December 11, 2025 - February 1, 2026.
THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA is widely considered one of the most beautiful and spectacular productions in history, playing to over 160 million people in 47 territories and 195 cities in 21 languages. Andrew Lloyd Webber's romantic, haunting, and soaring score includes "The Music of the Night," "All I Ask of You," "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again," "Masquerade," and the iconic title song. It tells the tale of a disfigured musical genius known only as 'The Phantom' who haunts the depths of the Paris Opera House. Mesmerized by the talents and beauty of a young soprano, Christine, The Phantom lures her as his protégé and falls fiercely in love with her. Unaware of Christine's love for Raoul, The Phantom's obsession sets the scene for a dramatic turn of events where jealousy, madness, and passions collide.
Produced by CAMERON MACKINTOSH with THE REALLY USEFUL GROUP
I have seen phantom of opera many times this time was magical,my daughter enjoyed the show as much as I did!
The sounds started so low you could hardly hear what was going on. It did improve however, Our particular perfomance did not have the main Actors (most of the backups were playing the lead roles). They did do a good job, but it wasn't what one would expect from a show at a Chicago Theater. We travelled a long way to get there and I'm afraid, was slightly disappointed.
This was on my wife's bucket list to see. We went and we both really enjoyed it. Fantastic performance from both the stage actors/actresses as well as from the orchestra pit. Well worth it...
This play never gets old. It was my 3rd time seeing it and I will see it again.
Outstanding performances by all....I never thought I could appreciate the power of voice...I had goosebumps at times throughout the performance.
The Phantom of the Opera was wonderful! Set design was amazing and you could easily tell how much hard work and planning went into the production. The actors and actresses' voices were amazing and so were their acting abilities. It was an unforgettable performance!
Been to many plays and operas, this was very nice. I would definitely go again!
The is the first time I have ever seen The Phantom of the Opera. The musical was amazing! My husband and I see a lot of musicals in Chicago regularly and this was one of the best we've seen. The cast selection was excellent! Amazing vocals from all of the cast.
I took my two grand-daughters to the performance & to say the least they were amazed & enthralled. Don't miss this performance. It is wonderful.
Is it possible for the new Phantom of the Opera to be better than the origninal? YES! It exceeded all my expectations with outstanding vocal talent, amazing acting and a new set that was over the top! It was like watching it for the first time again! I was mesmerized from the beginning to the final curtain. I left the show wanting to see it again! After having seen the original production numerous times, this show out did itself and made an execllent Braodway production even better!!!
The best ever! The entire cast as well as the leads were absolutly fantastic! Also great props and production--the complexity of the set was incredible. Mr. Cooper Grodin was the best Phantom we ever heard. Watched all the movie musicals and this was the best production and best overall acting. The Cadillac Palace was a beautiful venue. The staff were polite and answered our questions about the theatre's history.
I had seen the Phantom several times over the years and, after reading a review of the new production (non-Chicago review), i was anxious about what i was to see. No small matter that the tickets were i excess of $100/each for six of us. From the opening auction seen to the fading f the Phantom at close, i was totally taken by the experience. Christine, in every production, is beautiful, engaging with a wonderful voice. No different here. Wonderful. The Phantom, though, will always sit in comparison to Michael Crawford and his soaring magnificent voice. This Phantom, while no Crawford is a strong, sympathetic, lithe and powerful Phantom. Beautiful voice, dramatic gestures, pathetic in the Greek sense. Cadillac Palace is a perfect venue; literally not a bad seat in the house. I am humming the Phantom score compulsively.
I have an appreciation for all art in general bit this is the second time I've seen this show and it doesnt disappoint. Being a "guy" I love a great action movie and this performance is there. Fire, murder, gun shots and a deranged love story. I recommend it for everyone.
The whole experience was breathtaking! The singing, the sets, the costumes were amazing. Love, love. love this musical!
I have seen "The Phantom of the Opera" several times over the years and it is one of my all time favorites. Must see!
Phenomenal!!!!! Chills from the opening scene, grabs you in and doesn't let go.
The music and singing was amazing, but I loved the scenery and costumes as well. Great show that I would recommend to anyone!
I was thoroughly impressive with this production. The scenery changed seamlessly, all of the actors were more than qualified opera singers, and every time the phantom sung my heart filled up with joy. However, I felt as though Christine and Roule lacked chemistry on stage. I couldn't believe that they were more in love than the chemistry between Christine and the Phantom.
Was expecting the level of Le Mis, didn't happen, to loud in some spots then to low in others
If you've not seen Phantom before, this is worth seeing. If you've seen and loved the old productions, this may not be for you. The set design is, for the most part, wonderful. The things they did with the set in such a small space are fantastic. Th eone failure is the masquerade ball- the costumes and mirror are nowhere near as epic or memorable. The problems I have with this production are the Raul, who is too deep and edgy and lacks the range and underlying elegance for the role. Also problematic is the orchestra itself, which played quite fast, whether it's the orchestra itself or more likely a result of the cast, I do not know for sure, but the result is that the score fails to capture the emotions and sensations of previous productions. The lyrics are changed slightly as a result as well, and for me, the emotion just wasn't there. It didn't draw me in as previous productions have. So, not bad, not good. Just "meh." If we were invited again to see this production we would, but I wouldn't go out of my way to do so.
