THE BRILLIANT ORIGINAL RETURNS "MORE SPECTACULAR THAN EVER" - Sunday Express

The Phantom is back to thrill audiences once again! Cameron Mackintosh presents a revitalized new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's legendary musical, THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, which was rapturously received by London critics when it reopened in 2021. Featuring Maria Björnson's brilliant original design and based on the celebrated direction of Harold Prince, with musical staging and choreography by Gillian Lynne, PHANTOM will launch a new multi-year North American tour in November 2025, premiering at the Cadillac Palace Theatre in Chicago December 11, 2025 - February 1, 2026.

THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA is widely considered one of the most beautiful and spectacular productions in history, playing to over 160 million people in 47 territories and 195 cities in 21 languages. Andrew Lloyd Webber's romantic, haunting, and soaring score includes "The Music of the Night," "All I Ask of You," "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again," "Masquerade," and the iconic title song. It tells the tale of a disfigured musical genius known only as 'The Phantom' who haunts the depths of the Paris Opera House. Mesmerized by the talents and beauty of a young soprano, Christine, The Phantom lures her as his protégé and falls fiercely in love with her. Unaware of Christine's love for Raoul, The Phantom's obsession sets the scene for a dramatic turn of events where jealousy, madness, and passions collide.

  • Wish it were a five

by Phantomfan on 12/27/19Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

One of the greatest shows ever and it should be an easy five, but there were issues for me. Top pluses were the set, music and orchestra. The issues I had were that I felt it needed better lighting. The stage lighting is so dim at times you don’t see details of the set as much and you lose expression on faces, it’s hard to see and I was only 6 rows back. In one scene a spotlight came down on the graves while a moon was on the backdrop. The two were so far apart it broke the set. Spot from above, moon in the back? I also felt the mascarade number was rough due to some of the chorus actors not being as good as I think they should be for a broadway musical. Dancing was simple and definitely looked like a community theater show to me. I still loved it. But when you pay that sort of money, you expect something magical and different from the $40 local theater experience. For such a beloved show it needed improvement on those two awkward moments. On a last note the Cadillac theater is dated and rough. They need more bathrooms. It is not a building prepared for the volume of people it serves. Sadly. Even the men’s line for the restroom started upstairs and winded downstairs. Almost missed the second act opener because I was in line to use a bathroom still.

  • The Phantom's performance is life changing

by Big Fan on 12/26/19Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Although the entire cast was excellent, believe me when I say that the Phantom's performance will be in your memory for the rest of your life. He is special and you will have to experience him to know what I am talking about.

  • Great show, the music was a little bit louder

The level of the music should be reduced. The performance and decors was awesome.

  • Great show, no seats

by Couple from Indiana on 12/25/19Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 2 out of 5

We walked into this opulent, grand theater and were surprised when the staff showed us our seating area. There were no seats! It seems that the original historic seats were removed for handicap seating, but we were sold these "seats" without a disclosure of the situation, no discount for our troubles and no idea. Several other people were sold the spaces around us also. We were given chairs from the hallway to accommodate us, but they were wider than the original theater seats. If the theater had sold all the numbers between 18 and 30, there would not have been enough room for everyone. We were very disappointed in the way this situation was handled, and would not have chosen said seats if they were disclosed as what they were. The show itself was very entertaining, it was engrossing and distracted us from our seat situation. We were very impressed with the engineering and theatrical nature of the set design. All the acting was great.

  • Singing perfection

by Theatre lover 88 on 12/24/19Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

I have seen Phantom at least 30 times. I know and love this show. Christine, the Phantom and the chorus are spectacular! I understand that they had to scale down the set to make it practical to travel. I still miss the Phantom dropping down in the angel and the chandelier done the original way. My biggest disappointment, however, are the blocking changes. I feel they greatly diminish the way the story is told. Hal Prince staged a seduction in Music of the Night. It’s gone. The touching moment at the end where Christine hands the Phantom his ring and the look at each other one last time actually makes Love Never Dies make sense. To whom ever changed the staging...change it back! Those interactions were masterfully crafted and should remain. Nothing about the new blocking is an improvement. Lloyd Webber’s music tells a magical story. It is hands down the most touching love story I know. Thank you for bringing it back to Chicago, but please give me back the old blocking.

  • Great Seeing a Second Time

by Andy Stevens on 12/23/19Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

This is the first time sitting close to the front row in the Cadillac Theater and my second time seeing the phantom of the opera. I decided to take my fiance, first time she was seeing it and she loved it. It was a great night, no complaints. Keep up the amazing quality.

  • Show was great seats were not

by Mec on 12/23/19Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

The show was absolutely amazing but our seats were the worst in the house. Sitting in the very back row of the theater we still had a great view of the stage but the space between us and the row front was half of all of the other rows. I am only 5’5 and not a large person but my legs would not fit without smashing into the seat in front of me. If you are average size or larger purchase close seats or you will be miserable.
