THE BRILLIANT ORIGINAL RETURNS "MORE SPECTACULAR THAN EVER" - Sunday Express

The Phantom is back to thrill audiences once again! Cameron Mackintosh presents a revitalized new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's legendary musical, THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, which was rapturously received by London critics when it reopened in 2021. Featuring Maria Björnson's brilliant original design and based on the celebrated direction of Harold Prince, with musical staging and choreography by Gillian Lynne, PHANTOM will launch a new multi-year North American tour in November 2025, premiering at the Cadillac Palace Theatre in Chicago December 11, 2025 - February 1, 2026.

THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA is widely considered one of the most beautiful and spectacular productions in history, playing to over 160 million people in 47 territories and 195 cities in 21 languages. Andrew Lloyd Webber's romantic, haunting, and soaring score includes "The Music of the Night," "All I Ask of You," "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again," "Masquerade," and the iconic title song. It tells the tale of a disfigured musical genius known only as 'The Phantom' who haunts the depths of the Paris Opera House. Mesmerized by the talents and beauty of a young soprano, Christine, The Phantom lures her as his protégé and falls fiercely in love with her. Unaware of Christine's love for Raoul, The Phantom's obsession sets the scene for a dramatic turn of events where jealousy, madness, and passions collide.

  • Breathtaking!

I took my daughter and sister to Phantom for their birthdays. It was my fourth time seeing Phantom. The set was the best and the performers were outstanding. I especially love the music of that opera and I was not disappointed by the way the orchestra performed it. Great Job to all!

Beautiful music, stunning costumes, spot on choreography. Cast was great. Saw it twice in two weeks.

  • A must see!

by BigBroadwayBuff on 2/7/14Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

This production was absolutely incredible. I first saw this production on January 14th, 2014 and was absolutely starstruck by the entire experience. The singing, acting, theatrics... everything was perfect. I was absolutely inspired by the production, so much so that I just had to see it again on February 14th! I am trying to control my urge to watch it even again. This production is addicting to say the very least. The cast was wonderful. Everything was perfect. I have recommended anyone that is even slightly interested in theater productions to see this one. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT let this one pass you by.

  • Great Show

by RustyKeith on 2/7/14Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

The show was great. We've seen the movie but not a live performance. The first half was good but it was the second half that really made the show.

  • Phantom was not unforgettalbe

by byebyebirdie on 2/7/14Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 2 out of 5

Was disappointed in this new production. Did not have the same effect as the previous events. Although some of the songs were sung very well, the main character "the phantom" lacked the strong vocal needed to carry him throughout the show. Very disappoint in the chandeler display, too small of a scale for this well known production.

  • unbelievable!

by Anonymous on 2/6/14Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

I've seen 4 other shows on broadway over the last five years, wicked, lion king, westside story and cats, and by far this was the best one and will see it again when given the chance.

  • Fabulous!

by Anonymous on 2/6/14Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

I have seen Phantom at least 8 times so obviously it is one of my favorites. Of course the first time was my favorite because that is where I fell in love with it but this production was by far the best since! The newer set was fabulous and the orchestra was so powerful and beautiful. I thought the actors were all quite good as well!

  • Great location & show, prefer the original story

by Ratingstar on 2/5/14Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

The Cadillac Theatre in Chicago is a great location. We sat in orchestra left and the seats were excellent. We also did the suite pass which was worth the extra $40 per person. As for the show. The set and singing was great. I really loved Christine Daae character. Her voice and acting was excellent. This is an updated version of the original story. Apparently the changes were made as a way to appeal to younger audiences (based on post show research). Having seen the original version twice (Toronto and Orlando) I thought the changes reduced my viewing enjoyment. While not major it just seemed to be missing something. Overall enjoyed it but if I was to see it again I will try to find a performance of the original story.

  • A week later and it's still in my head

What a fantastic show - amazing performances, especially Christine and Phantom.

  • Music and performances are brilliant.

by SquishyKitty on 2/5/14Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

I dont like the Phantom....though the man who played him had a flawless voice. I didnt know the story and was expecting a die to the end love relationship. Happy ending and all....go figure.... However, that aside, the music, singing, and performance was spotless. Standing ovation...well earned.

  • Phantom was"stupendo"!

by Budpal on 2/5/14Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

The stage production was unbelievable. Awesome use of sets. Pyrotechnics was not really necessary. Performances were first class by all. On occasion , had a little trouble understanding some of the song lyrics......but then I'm over 65!! The chandelier was very nice (much like that in the movie), but expected something larger. In trying not to be overly critical, the second Act was a bit "slower" than the first. But overall, terrific.

I went to see the show yesterday, 2/2/14, and I was very disappointed with the obstructed view I had. I spent extra money for the tickets is the dress circle, seats c229-c233 so I may be closer to the stage, not knowing or having disclosed that there was an obstructed view. Three (3) of the 5 people I brought/bought tickets for to see this musical have never seen it before, and to have certain parts not visible during the production led there to have questions. I know others in front of us were also bending down to see what was going happen on the set. The Phantom of the Opera is my favorite musical, and to spend that amount of money to show the others in my party how great it is and not letting them have the best experience they and I could have is very disappointing. Obstructed views should always be disclosed for performances and the fact that this one was not is unacceptable.

  • Great Phantom

We have seen Phantom four times now and this was by far the best one. The new sets and sound quality and strong voices of the cast was awesome. We highly recommend seeing this play and would plan to see it again if time allows.

  • Only if you've never seen the Original production.

    by JEL71 on 2/5/14Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

The music was as fabulous as usual and mostly unaltered, thank goodness, but I must say that the "spectacular new" production visuals were disappointing when compared to the original production. My favoriate and most memorable scenes, i.e. raising and falling of the chandelier, decent to the lake, MASQUERADE, Phantom's location during "I gave you my music..." were replaced by what seemed to be cheaper, less fantastic sets. It didn't help that I didn't realize when I purchased the tickets that this was a new production, my fault there! It was enjoyable overall, but I took my daughters for the first time, and I hope that the original production still tours because I want them to see the Phantom of the Opera that I fell in love with!!

  • The Opera was incredible!!!

by Shadenfor on 2/5/14Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

The program was phenomenal. I'm in love with the actors, costuming, and the sophistication in which the props smoothly transitioned.

  • Impressive set design

    by PaulaJ1 on 2/5/14Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

My teenage son and I attended the performance, and both of us were blown away by the impressive set design. The transitioning of elaborate sets from scene to scene was seamless and never interrupted the flow of the story. Costumes were wonderful as well. The performances themselves were also enjoyable. The roles of Christine and Raoul were perfectly cast, and the supporting roles were also well appointed. We especially enjoyed the actors who portrayed Mme. Giry and Ubaldo Piangi--they nearly stole every scene they were in.

  • Awesome Production

by magsbon on 2/5/14Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

I had never seen Phantom before and enjoyed it with my husband and two teenage children. Loved the magnificent sets and the story. The voices were all very strong, especially loved the Phantom's voice. My 14 year old daughter actually said she liked it better than Wicked. My only complaint is the multiple times when different characters are singing different things at the same time. Whom should I try to listen to? Can't understand any of them, really.
