THE BRILLIANT ORIGINAL RETURNS "MORE SPECTACULAR THAN EVER" - Sunday Express

The Phantom is back to thrill audiences once again! Cameron Mackintosh presents a revitalized new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's legendary musical, THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, which was rapturously received by London critics when it reopened in 2021. Featuring Maria Björnson's brilliant original design and based on the celebrated direction of Harold Prince, with musical staging and choreography by Gillian Lynne, PHANTOM will launch a new multi-year North American tour in November 2025, premiering at the Cadillac Palace Theatre in Chicago December 11, 2025 - February 1, 2026.

THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA is widely considered one of the most beautiful and spectacular productions in history, playing to over 160 million people in 47 territories and 195 cities in 21 languages. Andrew Lloyd Webber's romantic, haunting, and soaring score includes "The Music of the Night," "All I Ask of You," "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again," "Masquerade," and the iconic title song. It tells the tale of a disfigured musical genius known only as 'The Phantom' who haunts the depths of the Paris Opera House. Mesmerized by the talents and beauty of a young soprano, Christine, The Phantom lures her as his protégé and falls fiercely in love with her. Unaware of Christine's love for Raoul, The Phantom's obsession sets the scene for a dramatic turn of events where jealousy, madness, and passions collide.

My son and I have been to see musicals on Broadway, in London, and Chicago for years. We are very familiar with the Phantom music and have listened to it for years. We thought Christine had a very pretty voice, but that was about it. The Phantom and her lover were okay but nothing special. I would rate them as fair. The orchestra was very good, as was the staging.....

  • Amazing Show

Truly wonderful show. I have seen this play many years ago and this production was just as wonderful as the last!

Phantom of the Opera was awesome! They put on a great production and we loved how they used the round scenery to make up for the smaller stage. Inventive! Definitely a must see!

  • The Phantom was Rocking.

My wife and I had a great date night. The theater was packed and it was a great mix of action and visual greatness even before we took our seats. When we did our seats were great. The actor that played the Phantom blew it away, A great performance.

  • good show...terrible view

by dcron on 3/3/14Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 2 out of 5

The overall show was pretty good. The singing and acting were both spot on. My biggest issue was with the theatre itself. We purchased the most expensive tickets to ensure good seats and what we received were two seats in the far corner so we couldnt see half the the stage, half the stage props, and we only wers able to see half of what was going on. Very dissapointed and wish i could get my money back :-(

  • Great performance but not a repeat!

by Operamaniac on 3/3/14Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

This is a great new production of the Phantom with staging and voices to match. However, I was bored with the story. The story did not captivate me from the beginning and I felt it did not have any peaks and valleys. It simply was flat lined. I wanted the story to pick up but it just didn't. I would recommend it to those who, like me, have never seen the Phantom; but I will never go see it again.

I liked the circular staging. The orchestra was very good. The pyrotechnics scared me. My least favorite performer was "Christine".

This was such a great show. Me and my boyfriend went and it was such a good time. We were in the balcony and we still could see everything! It was such a great time!

Fantastic production. And, the words were articulated so you could understand what was being said/sung. Not as scary as the production in the late 80's. Great family Broadway Show!

  • Wasn't the same

Went to see Phantom on Thurs. pm, Phantom is our favorite, and have seen several times. This production did not have the same feel, the same intensity, the singing was good, but again not the same intensity, not sure I like the new stage design. Will I see Phantom again, yes.

  • Phantom

by GPVFB on 3/2/14Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

I was so excited to be going to see the Phantom of the Opera for the first time. I enjoyed the music the presentation and the female lead. However, the male lead was not strong enough in voice or presence. The play did not bring through the sense of power the Phantom had over Christine or the sensuality of his desire for her.

  • Phantom was dessert for the senses

This was my third experience seeing the Phantom, and it always takes my breath away. The performances were flawless. This is an experience that I will continue to attend every chance I get. I can't get enough of it. The next time it is in Chicago, I will be bringing my grandchildren. And so...it continues with them.

  • Great production, Phantom could be louder

by Walris on 3/2/14Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

Have seen this show several times in several venues. While nothing compares to the Broadway show, this production was really excellent. The set/scenery was very well done. My only issue was with Raul and Phantom. In the first act, both were hard to hear and we were on the main floor about 20 rows back. By the second act, both had full voice. In particular, the Phantom had wonderful inflection and played the character well, but his voice didn't have the power that I have heard in other Phantom shows. Even so, it was a great show and highly recommended.

  • Phantom of the Opera was incredible.

Phantom of the Opera was a wonderful evening of theater. The music, singing, acting, and set designs were fabulous. We took our 12 year-old granddaughter, her first such event, and she too was enthralled and has become a lover of the arts.

Is there a better play? No. The music is timeless, the effects are magnificent, and there are few things I've enjoyed as much as Phantom of the Opera.

  • Absolutely amazing!

    by Winter1derful on 3/1/14Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

I have never seen Phantom of the Opera before, not even the movie. This was beyond my expectations. The show was well worth fighting the bitter winter cold in Chicago! My only recommendation is to sit in the first balcony. Close enough to see everything, but you're also able to see things that are going on above you. I was truly amazed by the setting, the staging. The way it was able to change from one scene to the next quickly.

  • Amazing!
