THE BRILLIANT ORIGINAL RETURNS "MORE SPECTACULAR THAN EVER" - Sunday Express

The Phantom is back to thrill audiences once again! Cameron Mackintosh presents a revitalized new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's legendary musical, THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, which was rapturously received by London critics when it reopened in 2021. Featuring Maria Björnson's brilliant original design and based on the celebrated direction of Harold Prince, with musical staging and choreography by Gillian Lynne, PHANTOM will launch a new multi-year North American tour in November 2025, premiering at the Cadillac Palace Theatre in Chicago December 11, 2025 - February 1, 2026.

THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA is widely considered one of the most beautiful and spectacular productions in history, playing to over 160 million people in 47 territories and 195 cities in 21 languages. Andrew Lloyd Webber's romantic, haunting, and soaring score includes "The Music of the Night," "All I Ask of You," "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again," "Masquerade," and the iconic title song. It tells the tale of a disfigured musical genius known only as 'The Phantom' who haunts the depths of the Paris Opera House. Mesmerized by the talents and beauty of a young soprano, Christine, The Phantom lures her as his protégé and falls fiercely in love with her. Unaware of Christine's love for Raoul, The Phantom's obsession sets the scene for a dramatic turn of events where jealousy, madness, and passions collide.

  • Love the play but don't like the changes

    by Phantom2014Fan on 3/6/14Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

I loved the play, have seen it many times, and will go many more times. And, I imagine those who were attending for the first time thought it was wonderful. However, I wonder about the new changes. The scenery didn't seem to be as elaborate as usual - the Phantom's area wasn't as dramatic, no fantastic staircase for Masquerade, other areas just didn't "awe" either. Why did they do away with Phantom's frightening costume during Masquerade? Less effective. At the end of Act 1, I was anticipating a falling chandelier. Instaed, it just rattled and the bulbs flickered. I was usrprised by the story line change explaining who the Phantom is and how he was found. Prevously, he was always found as a young boy.

  • Not nearly as gool as I expected

This was the second time I saw Phantom of the Opera at the Cadillac Palace Theater. First time was probably 8 years ago. I was excited to go but the performance fell flat. Voices were decent, but the props/backdrops/stage were mundane. I was never engaged by the performers nor the visual aids.

Fabulous, unforgettable, beautuful music. Outstanding cast.

  • "New" Phantom of the Opera a little weak . . .

    by FLIN165 on 3/5/14Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

The voices of the players were excellent. Our Christine was amazing as was the Phantom; however the Phantom did not exude the power and possession over Christine that I had expected. That left the whole play a little flat for me. Songs like "The Music of the Night" sung by the Phantom weren't as powerful as the soundtracks of other versions of the play; and I believe that was by design because the actor certainly had the ability to do more with the music. Because of this, I never felt the power of his performance like I thought I would. He had a sweet and beautiful voice, pitch perfect and flawless - just missing the power and demand that comes to be expected with this play. Costumes were amazing, set was fine and supporting actors were very good. Overall a very good play, just didn't quite hit expectations that were based from the original version.

  • If it isn't broke don't fix it!

by mommuge on 3/5/14Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

I have to say the show was somewhat of a disappointment. Although the music was just as spectacular as the first the acting and props where not. I believe there was no chemistry between the two leading characters. It almost seemed like Phantom was afraid to touch Christine! The seduction was totally lost! Is this not a love story? My biggest disappointment of all was the Point Of No Return scene. Again there was no chemistry and what was the GrimReaper costume that the Phantom was wearing???? Quit honestly I felt as if I was robbed. Robbed of experiencing those favorite scenes of seduction and awe. Bring back the old Phantom version please!!!!!

  • Phantom was amazing!!!

We saw Phantom on Saturday in Chicago and absolutely loved it!!! They did a GREAT job!!! Totally worth the trip to Chicago! I saw it in Toronto about 20 years and although I may have liked a couple characters better there the show was still awesome!!!

Too bad it's over or I would be able to recommend it.

  • The Phantom's Weak Voice...

by Anonymous on 3/5/14Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 2 out of 5

As a 31 year old man who really only enjoys theatrical performances like Phantom and Les Mis, I will say that I was EXTREMELY disappointed in this production of Phantom of the Opera. This is the 4th time I have seen Phantom (twice in Chicago, once on Broadway). Every performer in the show was phenomenal EXCEPT the Phantom. What a horrible voice! He could not hit any low notes with enough volume and the orchestra had to compensate for it. That cover singer voice might work at your local sports bar, but not at the Cadillac Palace Theatre. For the price of $200.00 a ticket I expect perfection from that role. Anyone impersonator that can sing could do a better job.

We went to the last Matinee and Christine was played by the under study. She was weak and not strong in the part. The chandelier never dropped, what a disappointment. The set for going down to the Phantoms dungeon was great, better than the original. Over all, We liked the the old version better.

  • Love the Phantom

by GingerW on 3/5/14Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

Preferred original version but I really enjoyed this version. At least they didn't mess with the music. Some of the lyrics were changed, didn't care for that. Most put the grand staircase back in. Very disappointed not to see that. Mascarade wasn't the same without it. I did however like the ending. Chandelier not being in stage wasn't as good either. The Phantom and Christin were fabulous. Also liked the original lake version better

  • Wonderful experience.

I expected very good and the performance lived up to my expectations. This was first time in this theatre and it is an experience in itself. Beautiful architecture and style. The staff was helpful and courteous in seating and at the refreshment counter.

My wife and I expected this Phantom show to be very good but we were absolutely blown away by this show! The performers were terrific but we were especially impressed with the special effects and the Orchestra! And the venue was extraordinary! This show was a gift for my wife and as far as I'm concerned, hit it out of the park! Well done to the cast, crew and the venue!
