See what Time Magazine exclaims is, “A don’t miss theatre event! The #1 Broadway musical of the year.” Winner of the 2012 TONY AWARD® FOR BEST REVIVAL OF A MUSICAL, The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess is hitting the road with award-winning members of the Broadway cast in this stunning and stirring new staging. Accompanied by a lush 23-piece orchestra, this re-envisioned Broadway production includes such legendary songs as “Summertime,” “It Ain’t Necessarily So,” and “I Got Plenty of Nothing.”
Praised by the New Yorker as, “A great achievement!” and hailed by the Associated Press as, “a Gorgeous version of the Gershwin masterpiece,” The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess is coming to you from its record-breaking engagements at the American Repertory Theater at Harvard University and Broadway’s Richard Rodgers Theatre. One of Broadway’s most accomplished creative teams, led by Tony Award® -winning director Diane Paulus (Pippin, Hair), Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Suzan-Lori Parks (Topdog/Underdog), and two-time Obie Award-winning composer Diedre L. Murray (Running Man), have re-imagined George Gershwin, DuBose and Dorothy Heyward and Ira Gershwin’s legendary masterwork specifically for the musical theatre, what USA Today calls “a canny and exuberant re-affirmation of the original’s enduring brilliance.”

Although it's a sad story, the music and performances were swinging and very entertaining. Beautiful.
The best Porgy and Bess I've ever seen! I loved the current adaption interpretation. I cried and laughed throughout! I thoughly enjoyed the 1930's interpretation. It brought that era to life. Thank you for the insight into life of African Americans' on Kiawah Island during the Great Depression..
I saw this play years ago, but I still enjoyed just as I did then.
My 10-year old daughter cried. We all enjoyed the singing, dancing and the wonderful performances.
exceptional!! What a thrilling performance.!!! Great energy and style!
i never miss Porgy and Bess any time it comes to town! it's a must see for me....however, although I read about it and knew it was coming, I didn't like Porgy standing up. I prefer my Porgy on his knees on the rolling, over-sized "skateboard". I think it gives more drama and empathy to his role. I didn't like the stage setting. I prefer the stages I've seen in the past that had partitions resembling different residences or businesses. AND what happened to the "Catfish Row" sign. These items helped give the viewer a better vision of a small town with inhabitants just trying to make due on the bayou in La. back in the early 1900's. Why was "Porgy and Bess" billed as a "musical". It' has been an OPERA and I feel it should remain so. Nothing wrong with musicals, but "Porgy and Bess" is on a higher level!!! Having said that, the singing was SUPERB and when it comes again, I'll be there!
This gritty original version of the original book was near perfect- great cast, great voices, great staging. I saw this version in New york 2 years ago with the Tony winning stars and liked this cast even better-what a treat.
The most musically satisfying, stage production that I have seen in a long time. Well acted and excellent choices of vocalist. If it had of been here longer I would have gotten a group together to do a group night.
We enjoyed it from start to finish. Wonderful show.
It was difficult to discern the lyrics, particularly when several were singing different words simultaneously. Because of this, it was hard to follow exactly what was happening on stage.i felt confused. I asked others during intermission, and no one told me they could understand clearly. I was sitting main floor, up close and center.
Was worth the wait! Always enjoyed this play! It's my favorite. To enjoy it live is one less thing on my bucketlist! Emotional!
Highly recommend this to all! The singing was awesome. Enjoyed the entire production.
Porgy and Bess was one of the most unforgettable plays I've ever seen. The orchestra was supurb along with the actors voices. Just beautiful. This play was fun and exciting. I could listen to the songs all day. YOU GO PORGY! Get YOUR GAL!..
The music unforgettable, of course. Strong cast with strong voices. I looked for actors in the ensemble to be out of character and could not find one instance of such. A most memorable show.
Great show. Loved the choreography. Beautiful!!!!!
