About

The Disco Biscuits rose to prominence in the ‘90s by pioneering their own genre: “trancefusion,” which bridges the gap between electronic music and Frank Zappa-influenced jam bands. The quartet of Jon "The Barber" Gutwillig (guitar), Marc Brownstein (bass), Sam Altman (drummer, later replaced by Allen Aucoin) and Aron Magner (keys) met on the University of Pennsylvania campus in 1995. One year later, they released their debut album Encephalous Crime. The highly-danceable jam band transitioned from playing frat parties to touring in support of everyone from The Black Crowes to the Jerry Garcia Band. Over the years, The Disco Biscuits have released multiple experimental albums and EPs, and curated the annual Camp Bisco electronic music festival. In July 2023, they embarked on their first West Coast tour in nearly 14 years.

  • great venue, great show

    by Dontgototerminal5 on 7/10/12Starland Ballroom - SayrevilleRating: 5 out of 5

The show was fantastic. The band really responded to the crowd's energy. Fun setlist, and good jamming. Renovations to Starland ballroom were really nice - extra floor lights and extra air conditioning were much needed. The venue was not over sold. There were some issues with the sound during set 1 - not sure if this was on the venue's end, or the band's end. Everything was pretty much resolved by the middle of set 1. Overall, a fantastic time!

  • biscuits threw down at the ballroom.

by Bohad on 7/9/12Starland Ballroom - SayrevilleRating: 5 out of 5

the disco biscuits at the starland ballroom was unbelievable. the staff, venue, prices and setting were unforgetable and was very pleased with it all. only complaints i have are that we were allowed to bring beers onto the dance floor, kind of unfortunate but oh well.

If you like a good rock show. I suggest the disco biscuits.

Great show! Barber killed it. Brownie is my man, magner knows how to womp it up, and Alan holds it all together.

The biscuits came back after a leave of absence and came out guns blazing. Great set lists and great jams. One of my favorite shows ever.

  • Great Band that played forever!

by Bukowski on 1/2/12Auditorium Theatre - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Great band and great venue. The acoustics of the theater were as good as any that I've been in. The biscuits played for over 4 hours and rocked the house with their self-invented trancefusion music.

the show was great! It was nice to go to a concert where smokers are allowed to leave and re-enter for once.

  • The Disco Biscuits are the best live band period.

by bk711 on 1/1/12Best Buy Theater - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

On the second night of a three night run at Best Buy Theater The Disco Biscuits proved yet again that they are still the best live rock-electronic-trancefusion jamband on earth. If there is a better band in the universe that can bring that dirty-sexy dance party from outer space please book them for three nights.Jon Gutwillig is still a genius, and reports of his demise have been greatly exaggerated. One of the most under-appreciated guitarists of his generation,"Barber" showed his versatility whether he was playing classics like HAB and Triumph, classical classics like Dance of the Sugarplum Fairies, or newer material like Naeba. Marc Brownstein on bass and Aron Magner on keys laid and maintained a solid foundation all night, Mags having that unique ability to keep it tight&simple but be able to bust out those jazz hands and take over at a moments notice. And while it's a joy to see brownie slappa da bass, Allen Aucoin is MVP for keeping it together and being one of the best drummers out there today.

The biscuits never disappoint, but tonight was something else, besides the fact that their setlist was absolutly incredible they played until 4:00am with a encore of their song 42 in which lasted more than 10 minutes and mad ethe entire crowd go wild as the band performing took it to a whole new level

  • The Best of Best Buy 2011

by CinderBlockHustle on 12/29/11Best Buy Theater - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

This show was great. A little more experimental then just straight 4x4 dance party. Jigsaw offered the big Allen Drum solo. The Naeba into gangster jam started out very airy and psychedelic before getting real dirty. One of the better segues of recent times. Dance of the sugarplum fairies was cool, though a little sloppy at first. Second set Triumph was a strong opener and the jam into AC2B ending was sick, the entire performance of Shem-Ra-Boo was tight, with Magner opting for a synth solo rather than the traditional organ. Digital buddha had some really neat shifts and morphing of textures over the jam. All and all set 2 was my favorite of the 6 sets they played in the run, that is definitely worth another listen. This show is also exponentially better due to venue. The sound quality and production value of the venue is top notch. No matter where you move around in the venue you get amazing sight lines to the stage. I hope Bisco is back there in the spring.

  • The Triscuits killed it!

by FriscoTriscuit on 12/28/11Best Buy Theater - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Intimate venue. Could really feel the love. Blah blah blah the city was sick and the biscuits were sick

  • Bisco inferno was unbelievable this year!!!

by xXSteeleNutzXx on 6/6/11Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

The line up was rediculous and the vibes were awesome from the parking lot all the way to the end of the show

  • Disco Biscuits sucked... RUSKO = AMAZING

    by jay0891 on 6/6/11Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 3 out of 5

The disco biscuits were not very good at all, but rusko, emancipator, big boi, and boombox made this show INCREDIBLE. rusko should definitely head line and emancipator should have played longer!

  • Rusk kills it!

by RoscoeJune on 6/1/11Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 4 out of 5

Bisco kids had no love for anyone but the DB, Rusko came on and straight murdered it in between sets and kind of brought the show to another level that the DB couldn't seem to get the crowd back to. Mad props to Emancipator and Boom Box, and what a way for Big Boi to take us back to the old school!

  • Mind Blown

by osirusXL on 5/31/11Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

First show at Red Rocks and damn... for that kind of music in that kind of venue, all I could really compare it to is back in 2000, the last year they held Ultra on the sand along south beach. Epic combo of music, lights, and environment. Rusko dropped sick beats mixed with hilarious samples. Big Boi didn't disappoint either, but I'm sure everyone felt it'd be even better with Andre there. And of course Biscuits played a ton of good sets, but actually seeing them at Red Rocks made it infinitely better.

  • by LeeDeePee on 5/31/11Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 4 out of 5

The only problem was that different entrances allowed different rules towards sealed bottled drinks.
