About

The Disco Biscuits rose to prominence in the ‘90s by pioneering their own genre: “trancefusion,” which bridges the gap between electronic music and Frank Zappa-influenced jam bands. The quartet of Jon "The Barber" Gutwillig (guitar), Marc Brownstein (bass), Sam Altman (drummer, later replaced by Allen Aucoin) and Aron Magner (keys) met on the University of Pennsylvania campus in 1995. One year later, they released their debut album Encephalous Crime. The highly-danceable jam band transitioned from playing frat parties to touring in support of everyone from The Black Crowes to the Jerry Garcia Band. Over the years, The Disco Biscuits have released multiple experimental albums and EPs, and curated the annual Camp Bisco electronic music festival. In July 2023, they embarked on their first West Coast tour in nearly 14 years.

  • City Bisco was great

by Ticranium on 10/2/13The Mann Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

My favorite band playing 4 sets over 2 nights in Philly. Best weekend of the year!

  • by Spacebeing57 on 9/30/13The Mann Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

The visuals were mind blowing and the music was super groovy!

  • Night one of the Biscuits

by JessBB on 9/30/13The Mann Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 3 out of 5

Decent show, but night 2 was much better. I thought they needed to tighten it up a bit. This is most likely due to the fact that they are not playing as consistently. I have noted that when they do an extended run that they seem to get better and better as the nights go on. As always it was a joy to be surrounded by friends and share in the warmth that is always present when attending shows.

Day 1 sucked but day 2 had two of the most incredible, mind blowing biscuit shows i have ever seen

  • Something Missing

by Thebuddhareviewer on 4/30/13Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 3 out of 5

The lights were fantastic, the music was good, but there was just no depth to the sound. I think the soundboard may have been having some problems or was just left unattended.

  • Truly an amazing experience

by Funkmasterfreshdiscosteez on 4/29/13Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

RJD2 got the night started off with some funky beats and fresh love mixing I danced from start to end of his set. Shpongle absolutely ripped my face off he tore it up with a mix of bass/salsa/trance on his beautiful video mapped stage. Amazing sounds amazing visuals it was an experience, but.... The Disco Biscuits played a lights out show, I couldn't have been anymore impressed the light show was outstanding the songs were incredible they shredded and rocked out for a good 3 hours and the crowd was going nuts for every minute of it. The line up was unreal and they all played a great show I look forward to seeing all three artists again anyday they return and I look even more forward to another feed the rocks!

  • More Shpongle Please!

    by brassmonkey059 on 4/29/13Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 4 out of 5

The disco biscuits were great, but please give Shpongle a longer set next time! Simon Posford is a genius!

  • Biscuits hitting the rock a little too hard

    by Mark420 on 4/29/13Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 1 out of 5

I'm normally a pretty big biscuits fan. I hit up 3 shows for their new years run in NYC this year and had an amazing time. I was VERY excited to see them at one of my favorite venues, Red Rocks. Unfortunately they did not deliver the goods. NOT AT ALL. After a great set by Schpongle I was all ready fro some more music, but the Biscuits never delivered. There were sound problems the entire show with most of the band sounding muffled and then a moment later blaring high end would almost throw you out of your seat. Barber's solo were aimless, uninspired and mostly sounded like him noodling around in a basement. There were several points during the show when it looked like all the members were just going through the motions and even they were not having a good time. There was also a ton of singing which I really don't feel is their strong suit. Most of it sounded off key and pretty awful. At the end of the show Marc was trying to get people to go to the after-party and it sounded like he was more psyched for that than the show itself. I'm hoping this was just a fluke and that the band will be back in good form for the next show. But if you missed this one, you didn't miss much.

R2D2 sucked. SHPONGLE SHPANGLED MY MIND!!!!! I personally think Shpongle was the best of the night ended put leaving once Disco Biscuits came on was completely different energy and threw me way off. I cant WAIT for Shpongle to come back to the rocks and tickle my fancy again :-)

  • schpongle should have headlined

    by misu24 on 4/29/13Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 2 out of 5

shpongle was incredible, he should have played longer than an hour. and the disco biscuits was one of the worst shows i have ever seen at red rocks, their 45 minute set break left the crowd bored, cold and by the time they came back half the audience had left.

  • YES!

by peppersmcgee on 4/29/13Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

It was my first time at Red Rocks and it blew my mind! Disco Biscuits melted my face clean off.

  • biscooo - oversold but barbers hair was rad

by juicebox11222 on 1/15/13Best Buy Theater - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

Best Buy Theatre was COMPLETELY oversold. There was barely room to move inside the venue! HOWEVER, the biscuits were pretty great. Music sounded much better than City Bisco and energy was high because most of us were coming off a Phish show. Not sure why Barber was dressed as a convict, but I really loved his hair-do.

  • by DPFree on 1/7/13Best Buy Theater - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Always put on a great improvisational show. Raging lights, great jamtronica!

  • Bisco comes to Time Square

by DiscoBiscuiteer on 1/7/13Best Buy Theater - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

The Disco Biscuits are still one of the most electrifying acts to see live today. With a blend of countless musical styles anchored by a fusion of rock, jazz and electronic "trance-fusion," the Biscuits are sure to get you moving.

Best show of the year! Had the greatest Time if my life with my best friend in NYC on nye !

  • by Anonymous on 1/4/13The Theater at Madison Square Garden - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

The show was great. First set started at 1130, just in time for the NYE countdown. They played a total of 3 sets which was absolutely epic. The last set started at around 330am and went until 5am. It was the best new years party, especially because MSG allowed them to play so late. They played amazing.. and the light show was great. The venue was great also and security was very laid back. All around a fabulous, unforgettable experience.
