About

The Disco Biscuits rose to prominence in the ‘90s by pioneering their own genre: “trancefusion,” which bridges the gap between electronic music and Frank Zappa-influenced jam bands. The quartet of Jon "The Barber" Gutwillig (guitar), Marc Brownstein (bass), Sam Altman (drummer, later replaced by Allen Aucoin) and Aron Magner (keys) met on the University of Pennsylvania campus in 1995. One year later, they released their debut album Encephalous Crime. The highly-danceable jam band transitioned from playing frat parties to touring in support of everyone from The Black Crowes to the Jerry Garcia Band. Over the years, The Disco Biscuits have released multiple experimental albums and EPs, and curated the annual Camp Bisco electronic music festival. In July 2023, they embarked on their first West Coast tour in nearly 14 years.

  • Ear Drum trauma

by Malt Loaf on 3/18/24State Theatre - PortlandRating: 3 out of 5

Was really looking forward to this concert in Portland ME, particularly as it was the re-arranged date following the cancellation last year due to the terrible Lewiston Maine shootings… However, sorry to say that it was for me a disappointing evening, the acoustics were frankly terrible out front (I was standing mid-way back on the barrier by the engineer’s mixing station). The relentless bass was so distorted that it was painful to listen to ! Not what I have come to expect from a seasoned and hi-tech outfit as the Biscuits. One other thing also; when I listened to the performance of the concert afterwards online it sounded absolutely crystal clear and totally different sound, nothing like what I was hearing out in the audience, so I don’t really know what they were recording…a direct link from their instruments presumably with no background noise ?? Anyway to me that’s false advertising ! I love the Biscuits but that wasn’t very good I’m afraid, sorry guys.

  • The Disco Biscuits are ON FIRE!!!

by MarcyD on 3/16/24Empire Live - AlbanyRating: 5 out of 5

Stellar show, amazing band, lights, and promoter Greg Bell. The venue is kibd if awful and I hope they play anywhere else. The staff were cool, there is no ventilation, the floors and walls wet from the lack of air flow and the cement floor and walls SUCK for sound.

  • Extended hard Jam

by Adkdoug on 3/16/24Empire Live - AlbanyRating: 5 out of 5

If you're up for Grooving Non-Stop to hard driving music this is your band.

  • Moved the crowd on an epic journey!

by Yosh on 3/10/24The Fillmore Silver Spring - Silver SpringRating: 5 out of 5

Phenomenal how once they start they don't stop! I think the set break is more for us to recover than for them.

  • Typical fun

by KV on 3/10/24The Fillmore Silver Spring - Silver SpringRating: 3 out of 5

Lots was on point. They are where they are. Keys a lot of times has a far too complex set up than performance. Sometimes was mixed much louder than other components. Would love to be a guest.

  • Just what my mind & soul was looking for!!

  • Wow!

by GMan on 2/6/24The Observatory North Park - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

I had never been to the Observatory or seen the Disco Biscuits. Both exceeded my expectations. The Observatory has lots of elbow room to dance and move about even though the show appeared to be sold out. The DB's, they put on an amazing show, the energy is incredible. They played for hours at a pace that must have just been exhausting for them. And the light show is fantastic. They are a must see!

  • B’Gocked

by Swaggy D on 2/5/24The Observatory North Park - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

ALAN CHILLS IN THE BACK WITH THE TSKA TSKA TSKA, A GROOVE MISSLE SET ON B'GOCK, AND BARBS BRINGS IT ALL BACK HOME WITH THE DEEDLE DE DEE DEEDLE DE DEE, A PSYCHIC BREAKDOWN MINE, HIDDEN IN THE TRANCE PASTURE, BLOWING OPEN YOUR BISCO CHAKRA, THAT IS THE UNTZ.

  • Burning down all houses

by Mseklecki on 2/5/24The Observatory North Park - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

Everyone should go see them at least once. They sound really really good at this moment in time

  • Best band in the world

by BK on 2/1/24The Fillmore - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

Come dance your face off with a bunch of folks with good vibes. More than half the show is improvised so you really don’t have to know any of their songs. But if you do, what this band does with their setlists makes it so rewarding to be a fan.

  • The Disco Biscuits at The Palladium

by Brittany Moonbeam on 1/31/24Palladium Times Square - New York CityRating: 4 out of 5

I really enjoy seeing a show at the old Nokia, Best Buy, PlayStation, and now Palladium Theater. I did think it was odd that the new owners separated the seating and floor area by price instead of having the ability to freely choose whether you wanted to be on one of the two levels of floor space or in the seats. In my opinion, the seats give you the best view of the lights, which have been completely and absolutely insane this tour! They’re so intricate and complement the band perfectly. The sound is always good quality with the acoustics and stellar sound engineers of tDB. The bathrooms are spacious and generally kept really clean, except a good amount of the doors didn’t lock properly. Drinks were over priced as usual, but that’s what I expect at a venue in Manhattan, especially Times Square. Overall, one of my favorite venues in NYC. The commute to the venue is relatively easy but if you’re going to drive I would recommend finding a parking garage out of this area of the city for best prices. I usually park (all the way) in TriBeCa and take the subway up- which on the ACE is a straight forward ride to 42nd and an easy walk from there to the venue. Am definitely disappointed that they’re not playing there this year, but happy to catch them for one Manhattan show in March for the album release party. Overall, will def hit this venue up again whether it’s for tDB or a rock show.

  • Greatest band in the history of earth

  • My first Disco Biscuits show and not my last!

    by Loving_SanFrancisco on 1/30/24The Fillmore - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

Holy smokes! What a show and group! How is it possible to play that long non-stop with that level of energy?! The music is original yet had familiar elements. Zappa, New Wave, Rock, LCD, Jam, and more! It was a musical kaleidoscope! Oh and lasers! What the what?! Can we have a Bay Area residency?!!!
