About

The Disco Biscuits rose to prominence in the ‘90s by pioneering their own genre: “trancefusion,” which bridges the gap between electronic music and Frank Zappa-influenced jam bands. The quartet of Jon "The Barber" Gutwillig (guitar), Marc Brownstein (bass), Sam Altman (drummer, later replaced by Allen Aucoin) and Aron Magner (keys) met on the University of Pennsylvania campus in 1995. One year later, they released their debut album Encephalous Crime. The highly-danceable jam band transitioned from playing frat parties to touring in support of everyone from The Black Crowes to the Jerry Garcia Band. Over the years, The Disco Biscuits have released multiple experimental albums and EPs, and curated the annual Camp Bisco electronic music festival. In July 2023, they embarked on their first West Coast tour in nearly 14 years.

  • Biscuits in San Diego!

by sdhipster on 11/19/094th and B - San DiegoRating: 3 out of 5

Good show, not great. I don't think 4th and B really cuts it as a live music venue, especially with a group like Disco Biscuits. Their music is so flowing and intricate and the sound quality of every note is better played, listened to and danced to in a venue that's not entirely concrete walls and floor. The sound was horrible in there. Did not like the new song ('Outside Looking In?). (Let's see if I catch any flack for that) It just did not seem to have the same vibe as the rest of their material and where it was placed in the set. Audience didn't seem to get into it, either. Everybody stopped dancing during that song... That being said, I have to say that San Diego needs to wake up to the jam music scene and so I don't know how many real Biscuit fans were in attendance. The energy here may never be what it is on the East Coast. The first set was good, second was better, with the exception of the new song which seemed to me misplaced overall - sorry guys. Love your music, and thanks for coming to San Diego. Also, my wife complains that West Coast shows are weak because they always end earlier than East Coast shows - you changed that! Hated the venue. Guard presence seemed to be set up for a gang fight or something more hardcore than Bisco.

  • Biscuits ripped it!

by TrillTime on 11/2/09Auditorium Theatre - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

All I gotta say is if you are a fan of jam-bands, don't miss out on seeing the Biscuits. Great show, they play all night, and their music simply flows. The two opening bands, Holy F**k and Glitch Mob sounded great as well.

  • by Anonymous on 11/2/09Auditorium Theatre - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

The show was a lot of fun. Most of the crowd did not arrive until well after the Holy Fuck's set. Glitch Mob was good. The seemingly planned bound between them at times was amusing. Teh Biscuits were very good. Barber was on top of his game. The new songs are interesting...I'll say that much.

  • Epic

by Podracer on 11/2/09Auditorium Theatre - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

I thought this was a fantastic show. The first set i was up in the balconies catching glipses from all angles, the second set i was down in front. I thought both sets were amazing. I thought their costumes were awesome, I'm glad to see that they dressed up. The Auditorium theatre is amazing no matter where you are and the lights lit that place up very well as seen from the balconies in the first set. Awesome job Biscuits. Another unforgettable time!!

  • epic!

by Anonymous on 11/1/09Auditorium Theatre - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

I missed Holy Fuck, but Glitch Mob was pretty good. DBs were awesome. First set was solid, but the second set was epic. Well over an hour, non-stop in that second set.

  • BISCO RAGED!

by masterfuol on 11/1/09Auditorium Theatre - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

This was by far the best Halloween Concert I have been too. It was a party and a half, all of the music was great, and the crowd was filled with good and kind people. I want to do this again real soon.

  • by Anonymous on 11/1/09Auditorium Theatre - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

  • Bisco is amazing

by latexsolarbeef on 10/31/09State Theatre, Kalamazoo - KalamazooRating: 5 out of 5

The venue was hands down the most beautiful place that I have ever seen a concert in, and to top it all off the opening acts where great, and Bisco brought the house down with 2 flawless sets, that made them my most treasured concert going experience. I've been to a lot of shows but none of them rank higher than this one.

  • Slow Start Makes For Early End

by Scoonathins on 10/29/09State Theatre, Kalamazoo - KalamazooRating: 2 out of 5

I am a fan of any type of dance music and when it comes to their genre Disco Biscuits have some of the greatest. I was disappointed that the band did not begin until the scheduled end time I had listed. And also disappointed that the opening DJ's were in no way introduced or acknowledged. Outside of that, great stage and good music.

  • tDb at Hippodrome

by IamtheWalrus on 9/17/09Hippodrome at France-Merrick Performing Arts Center - BaltimoreRating: 4 out of 5

Show really was fire. From the Mindless Dribble opener to the Mirrors encore. I was not sure about the choice of venue. A little ske[tical at first but once the lights went down it was another rager. Brownie said it best " It's cool to feel cultured." It is cool every now and then.

  • Great Times!!!

by HouseDogPartyFavor on 9/15/09Hippodrome at France-Merrick Performing Arts Center - BaltimoreRating: 5 out of 5

The Disco Biscuits put on an amazing show! The setlist was sick and the crowd was really into it. The venue itself was absolutely beautiful! I would definitely recommend the Hippodrome to others and would love to return in the near future.

  • Biscuits Rock!!!

by rustybergen on 9/15/09Hippodrome at France-Merrick Performing Arts Center - BaltimoreRating: 5 out of 5

I loved the show. First time ever at the Hippodrome and it was such a nice venue, even for a biscuits show. Even though the seats were GA and there was plenty of room, I was surprised at how I rather enjoyed the rows of seats. People wouldn't be trying to snatch your dancing area and you could sit down for a break between sets. The biscuits were in great spirits cause they love their bmore family. I had a blast and really thought the setlist was awesome too. It was my friends first biscuit show and I know he'll be coming back for more. They really know how to rage it and make me want to stay up all night to hear them play. Thank you Bisco!!

  • BISCUITS RAGED HARD

    by CJ511 on 9/15/09Starland Ballroom - SayrevilleRating: 5 out of 5

This show was nuts. Saturday night was an amazing show, Don, Confrontation, and the tractor beam set all together was CRAZY. Sunday night as a little less impressive but the second set made up for it big time. Sayreville got rocked and everyone that was there would tell you the same.
