About

The Disco Biscuits rose to prominence in the ‘90s by pioneering their own genre: “trancefusion,” which bridges the gap between electronic music and Frank Zappa-influenced jam bands. The quartet of Jon "The Barber" Gutwillig (guitar), Marc Brownstein (bass), Sam Altman (drummer, later replaced by Allen Aucoin) and Aron Magner (keys) met on the University of Pennsylvania campus in 1995. One year later, they released their debut album Encephalous Crime. The highly-danceable jam band transitioned from playing frat parties to touring in support of everyone from The Black Crowes to the Jerry Garcia Band. Over the years, The Disco Biscuits have released multiple experimental albums and EPs, and curated the annual Camp Bisco electronic music festival. In July 2023, they embarked on their first West Coast tour in nearly 14 years.

  • a divine moment of truth

by gotbiscuits on 9/14/09Starland Ballroom - SayrevilleRating: 5 out of 5

whats up. if u dont know, i was the kid wearing the shirt i made with sharpie "got biscuits?"i only went on saturday and was sad to miss out on the second night. it was my first time seeing bisco but i have to say it was probably one of their best performances that i have ever heard. uberglue was incredible and helicopters was sick but donde (magner''s new jam) was the most divine experience of my life. I really enjoyed konkrete too, that was one of the best songs all night in my opinion. ill try to keep this short but i cant seem to scale down such a great time into one little paragraph....anyway, i loved it and am really glad i got to see them at starland, which is one of my favorite venues, everybody was raging.

  • Disco Biscuits at Starland Ballroom - Fun Show!

    by MAF1234 on 9/14/09Starland Ballroom - SayrevilleRating: 4 out of 5

I have been seeing the disco biscuits since 2002. The Sunday night show (9/13/09) at Starland Ballroom was around my 90th show (yes, I said NINETY!) and probably my 7th or 8th time seeing them at this particular venue. Going to see them at the starland ballroom always used to be such a HUGE hassle - the lines to get in were LONG and SLOW, the security was super harsh, the venue was overcrowded and extremely hot/humid... However, this time around it was like a completely different venue. I'm not sure if the security contracts have since changed or whatever, but the event was run very smoothly and professionally. The show was very fun, the band played very well, and as i said, the venue and staff made the night a very enjoyable one. they even had the AC cranked up to keep the temperature at a comfortable level. I would recommend seeing the disco biscuits at the starland ballroom to any of my friends!

  • The Biscuits Killed It!

    by Phishersweets42 on 9/14/09Starland Ballroom - SayrevilleRating: 5 out of 5

Amazing show! Tight, dirty, and fun. The venue was not overheated or overcrowded, and the sound was great. Security was more lax as well.

  • Disco Biscuits rocked....... hard.

by badreportcard on 9/14/09Starland Ballroom - SayrevilleRating: 5 out of 5

The band was amazing, played three sets each better than the last. The atmosphere was overwhelming with positive energy. Great show bottom line.

  • Of the 40 shows I have seen, this was in the Top 5

by DiscoPhish on 9/14/09Hippodrome at France-Merrick Performing Arts Center - BaltimoreRating: 5 out of 5

Absolutely flawless! I couldn't have hoped for a better way of them kicking off the tour. From the very first few seconds when Allen starts doing the deep drum solo to kick off Mindless Dribble, I knew I was going to have to find a pretty big container to collect my face. They go from Mindless Dribble into Spacebird which is probably my favorite song of theirs into an Inverted version (they play the ending first and then play the beginning of the song) of And the Ladies Were the Rest of the Night. Out of Ladies you feel like they are about to go back into Spacebird. They are in key and are about to do the Ladies' peak then all of a sudden out of essentially nowhere they drop into Mindless Dribble again so the Spacebird was a mere tease or so I thought until they dropped officially back into Spacebird after Mindless Dribble. Simply Rediculous! Don't even get me started on the Second Set! This entire show had so many classics throughout with the Mindless Dribble and the Ladies and the Spacebird and then they go kicking off the first set with House Dog Party Favor. Real sick electronic jam here. Then they played a new song which started out kind of dark and dirty and then Barber started kind of rapping which was rather strange and the song just kind of lost me. However, talk about a bust out!! They followed that up with an awesome version Aceetobee. Then the next segway was just all fire. I can't say enough great things about this entire show. I understand that the Disco Biscuits (atleast on recording) may not be everybody's favorite band. It's definitley something you can't just grasp but believe me when I say, GO TO A SHOW!! Every show is an experience and an event as opposed to just a show.

  • Disco Biscuits was a lot of fun, great jams!

by Morgzz on 9/14/09Starland Ballroom - SayrevilleRating: 4 out of 5

The Disco Biscuits always put on a great show! Last night there was a ton of dancing and everyone was extremly into the music. It never fails, every show there's non stop dancing, meeting new people, and just enjoying the creative jams.

  • "Disco Biscuits, nothing but time on their hands"

    by Tunaman1954 on 9/13/09Starland Ballroom - SayrevilleRating: 1 out of 5

Disco Biscuits, they must have been in the dressing room eating biscuits as they didn't go on until 9:10 with a 7pm doors open!!! Roadies still fixing lights and tuning guitars at 8:40, whats with that, they had all freakin day!! First song was so long I turned a birthday and it still wasn't over !!!!! Playing at a theatre venue would be the only way these guys would ever start on time. NEVER AGAIN

  • Rage your face off

    by JeffP2 on 9/13/09Starland Ballroom - SayrevilleRating: 5 out of 5

Best show. All other shows are not the best show. Soaring jam into helicopters, dirty 42, rare bustout stone > devils waltz. Konkrete didn't stink as much as in the past, rare Bazaar Escape into a flawless Save the Robots. Great new MagnahSong... Tractorbeam was off the chain, Abyss > Don > Tation, it's the taterss. That's how good it was. Oh, and Fiddler encore. Thanks Brownie

  • Jam on and on and on

by TheAlien on 9/12/09Hippodrome at France-Merrick Performing Arts Center - BaltimoreRating: 5 out of 5

The Disco Biscuits are one in a handful of excellent jam bands that roam throughout the US spreading ultra-long sets of fascinating electronic music, and the 9/11 show at Baltimore's Hippodrome Theater was no exception. Consistently able to morph between dance, trance and rock, the Disco Biscuits very long first set was no exception, lasting over an hour with the second set not finishing until well after 12:30 in the morning. Such as well was the light show which thankfully didn't include lasers, but instead was designed to amplify and provide a constant array of dazzling effect without going overboard. I am constantly amazed by these guys and how they can play on and on with such intensity, and if the 'Biscuits are playing near you, I suggest you make a date.

  • Great Show!

by MdBoarder on 9/12/09Hippodrome at France-Merrick Performing Arts Center - BaltimoreRating: 4 out of 5

Disco Biscuits were great. Show was over at Midnight on a Friday night. It should have went to at least 1 am.

  • Z-Trip's First Red Rocks Appearance

    by jorge89 on 7/31/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 4 out of 5

Hands down one of the best sets he's ever spun. RJD2 came out for an encore during. Some of the best collaborative DJ talent that stage has ever seen. The Biscuits killed. Oakenfold through down what was expected. Got my money's worth in the first half hour.

  • Very talented Jam band if you like jam bands

by xilla on 7/22/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 3 out of 5

I loved the dancers that performed with them. Jam bands that just keep going are tiring to me now. I think they are very talented and have a good niche, but that is not really what I'm into anymore.

  • WOOOOWWWWWW

    by kittykate150 on 7/21/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

EPIC!!!!!!!!! DIsco Biscuits completely blew me away. We were bummed to miss the New Deal, but the rest of the show was so amazing. Great crowd. Red Rocks is the best venue EVER. Honestly though, the Disco Biscuits are incredible, and they scrambled my brain quite a bit. Needless to say, i called in sick for work after this show...

  • bisco

by qrst1234 on 7/20/09House of Blues Atlantic City - Atlantic CityRating: 4 out of 5

the disco biscuit show was a lot of fun. The set was good and they played for a few hours

  • Always a good time

by Real on 7/18/09House of Blues Cleveland - ClevelandRating: 4 out of 5

Disc Bicuits tore up the HOB in Cleveland. First set was really packed but it cleared out a bit in the second which left plenty of room to get down. I wish the Biscuits would come back to Pittsburgh (Mr. Smalls) as soon as possible.

  • excellent show

by radiochild on 7/18/09Newport Music Hall - ColumbusRating: 4 out of 5

this show was fantastic. i thought the sound at this particular venue, and the venue itself, was far inferior to the the venue at which the disco biscuits played the following night, which was the egyptian room at the murat theatre. that being said, the setlist was incredible and listening back on the recording now, the band was in fact quite on point and i think overall, venue and sound issues aside, this show was actually better than the next night. suberb show overall with some pretty rare songs included.

  • Lotus ROCKED

by madizma on 7/16/09House of Blues Atlantic City - Atlantic CityRating: 4 out of 5

I was pleasently suprised that Brothers Past was the opener. Haven't seen them in years. Lotus was incredible as always! DB Loose the Mets gear!
