About

The Cat Empire is a genre-defying ensemble that formed in Melbourne, Australia, in 1999. Blending ska, jazz, rocksteady, and hip-hop, the six-piece produces a wildly eclectic sound and live show that has toured worldwide, from major festivals like Glastonbury to making buzzworthy appearances on the Late Show with David Letterman and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. The Cat Empire has produced multiple No. 1 albums in Australia, including Two Shoes (2005) and Rising with the Sun (2016). After announcing their decision to disband in 2021, a refreshed lineup was announced in July 2023 led by original members Ollie McGill and Felix Riebl with the additions of Grace Barbé on bass, Daniel Farrugia on drums, Neda Rahmani on percussion and Lazaro Numa on trumpet. On August 25, The Cat Empire released their ninth studio album, Where The Angels Fall, with a supporting world tour scheduled for the fall.

  • The Cat Empire Rules!

by Pilapepes on 7/14/13House of Blues Chicago - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

If you don't know The Cat Empire you should! They have a sound that makes you move even if you don't want too! They are one of those bands that sound even better live!!

  • Exceeded Huge Expectations

by TuckerMaywill on 7/13/13House of Blues Chicago - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Wow. What an awesome group and a great concert. They sound incredible live. The crowd was into it throughout the entire show. I went with someone who hadn't heard of the group until the day of the concert, and he loved it. I was really pleasantly surprised by the length of the set - at least 1:45. They played pretty much every song I hoped they would and several more that I didn't expect. The crowd was totally into it. Whenever they're back in the U.S., I'll make sure to catch a show.

  • Probably the best show... Ever.

by VincentBeaubien on 7/13/13Métropolis - MontrealRating: 5 out of 5

They are real beasts, the whole show is amazing and they seem to never go tired. I love when thjey take a 4 min. song song and turn it into a 15 minute song in the show. a must see!

  • The Cat Empire was magic!!!!!

by Catlover49 on 7/3/13House of Blues Boston - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Incredible evening!!!! These guys give their fans every ounce of energy they have in every song. If they don't get some part of your body moving, then you must be dead. Love the new music. So refreshing to pay $25. for a ticket and walk away totally wowed. Everyone must see The Cat Empire at least once in their lives. I've been to hundreds of concerts since the 60's and this ranks in the top 3!

  • Cat Empire was great. Opening act was not.

by Anonymous on 7/3/13House of Blues Boston - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

As always, Cat Empire put on a great show. But why would the promoters pair Cat Empire with Blackalicious?. Totally different genres. And not at all enjoyable.

MAGICAL! Magical, as always. They never ever disappoint.

  • Cat Empire is one of the best concerts ever

by Joran87 on 7/2/13Best Buy Theater - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Cat Empire delivered a stunning concert on June 29th. By the end, as I scanned the crowd, and saw a thousand+ hands bouncing up and down, singing together, I knew the concert was something special. The band was energetic, they riffed incredibly and at length on songs, playing two encore songs. The crowd was fully engaged in the concert dancing the night away. Overall it was a concert that I'll never forget and that still has me buzzing with excitement and laughter three days later.

  • Simply amazing

by Enigma649 on 7/1/13Best Buy Theater - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

The Cat Empire is one of the best live bands out there. They play every song different than they do on the album, and make every one that much better to hear live. They are just incredibly talented musicians. I wish they came to the US more often!

  • Cat Empire Rules

by Waistcoat on 7/1/13Best Buy Theater - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Cat Empire energizes, synergizes, magnetizes with a confluence of jazz, ska, Iberian and profound lyrics. Harry, Felix & the crew always come through, as they did in Webster Hall and out in Central Park years back.

The Cat Empire is my favorite band and I always enjoy seeing them. My mom enjoyed them this time around as well.

Always a great performance. Felix is better than ever, and Harry is incredible! Don't miss them when you have a chance.

  • Show of a lifetime

by Speedv15 on 7/1/13Best Buy Theater - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

I really can't praise this show enough. The opener, Blackalicius, was fantastic and entertaining (especially for a live rap artist). The Cat Empire exceeded my very high expectations with some of the most impressive and high energy musical performance I have ever experienced. The sound was well mixed, and for once, not painfully loud. Everything about the evening was just perfect. The

They were incredible! They sounds even better live than they do on their albums. They have such energy and stage presence and I have fallen even more in love with this band. I didn't think it was possible! I wish they would tour the states more often! I cannot wait to see them again :)

  • The Cat Empire - Awesome!

by Elsus on 7/1/13Best Buy Theater - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Great great great show - with so little airplay on the radio it's great to know people are discovering this band's music. They are so much FUN!

  • Amazing, as usual

by NaughtyLola on 7/1/13Best Buy Theater - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

The Cat Empire never disappoints. This was my 11th time seeing them and they just seem to get better. "Steal the Light" doesn't have a bad note on it, and the songs they chose from it were electric. It was nice to hear "The Car Song" too, I don't think I've heard that one in four years!

  • Great kickoff for their world tour!

by Shnitz on 6/30/13The Fillmore Silver Spring - Silver SpringRating: 4 out of 5

I really can't complain about this band... fantastic chemistry, amazing jams and improvisation live, and the happiest crowd you will ever find! Only drawback was this weird ass rap group that had nothing to do with the type of music Cat Empire... but I'm gonna blame the Fillmore for booking them, because I have hard time believing the band would select that group to warm up for them.

  • Great band

by ChrisM28 on 6/30/13The Fillmore Silver Spring - Silver SpringRating: 4 out of 5

Cat Empire is a really great band, fun to listen to, and wonderful musicians.

  • by KsAlltheWayDown on 6/30/13The Fillmore Silver Spring - Silver SpringRating: 5 out of 5

I wasn't very familiar with the band - I went with a friend from out of town who loves them. Very fun music, mixed age crowd, and good atmosphere. My only complaint was they played a bit too long in my opinion (encores are only supposed to be one song, guys). Venue is good too.

  • Cat Empire brings the heat!

by kylethegreat on 6/29/13The Fillmore Silver Spring - Silver SpringRating: 5 out of 5

Been a fan of this band for 5 years now and FINALLY managed to catch a show and it was definitely worth it. They killed every song they played, jammed out, and had the whole place grooving. Can't wait to see them again!
