THE CALIFORNIA HONEYDROPS IN CONCERT:

The old-timey blues and R&B of The California Honeydrops transports fans to a bygone musical era every time they take the stage. At their live shows the band whips up a New Orleans-style party, turning out their rootsy, celebratory tunes with infectious energy and tremendous musical prowess. In addition to guitar, drums, upright bass, trumpet, and saxophone The California Honeydrops incorporate old-fashioned instruments like jug, washboard, and gutbucket bass that are a heck of a lot of fun to see in action. Leading the charge is band leader Lech Wierzynski, a multi-talented performer whose soulful voice and clever lyrics make songs like "Pumpkin Pie" and "Like You Mean It" shine. Ticket buyers looking for a fresh take on the sounds of yesterday won't want to miss these talented performers as they bring the house down with their boisterous performances on tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Polish-born Lech Wierzynski cut his teeth playing jazz and blues at late night jam sessions while living in Washington, D.C. After studying with Ray Charles' former trumpet player Marcus Belgrave he relocated to Oakland, where in 2007 he formed the California Honeydrops. The group spent their early days performing in the city's subway stations, honing an interactive style that engaged passerby with their rollicking tunes. In 2008 they started making waves above ground, releasing their debut album Soul Tub! and then embarking on a European tour of Germany, Poland, and The Netherlands.  While still occasionally performing in Oakland subways, the band followed up with the albums Spreadin' Honey (2010) and Like You Mean It (2013), both of which they supported with extensive touring and performances at major festivals like the Portland Waterfront Blues Festival and the New Orleans Jazz Fest. Hot on the heels of their 2015 album River's Invitation and their first Australian tour, The California Honeydrops are in peak form and ready to get ticket buyers feeling good on tour.

  • Fantastic!

Honeydrops put their heart and soul into every performance!

  • High energy level

by Tklong on 11/1/239:30 CLUB - WASHINGTONRating: 5 out of 5

This is one of the best concerts. I have gone to in years!! The energy was so high among all the musicians and the people. The vibe just kept everyone moving, and no one was dancing by themselves.

  • More jam band-y

by Km on 11/1/239:30 CLUB - WASHINGTONRating: 3 out of 5

I have been listening to them for years so was excited to finally hear them live, but was a little disappointed that they weren’t as much of performers as I expected. There was a lot more music being played and less singing (feels like a weird criticism to make, but just speaking to my experience). They also took a 30 minute intermission after playing for an hour, which on a Sunday night was a little rough and seemed unwarranted.

  • A fun band to go see!

by Live music Lisa on 11/1/239:30 CLUB - WASHINGTONRating: 5 out of 5

This was my first time seeing them. Great energy. One main vocalist with lots of range and great sound. A definite New Orleans vibe for majority of songs - the brass was my favorite !

  • Great music... bad lighting

    by C-tal on 10/28/23State Theatre - PortlandRating: 3 out of 5

I really loved the music and their interaction with the audience. The showmanship was amazing. I won't likely be back to that venue because the lighting was way too flashy and strobe like. As a person who sufferes from migraines, the flashing into the audience was very triggering. The colored lights softly swirling around and the projections at the end were lovely and not triggering. When the lights toned down i could hear the music better. (That might be a personal problem). But i do think venues should limit flashing so migraine sufferes and even those with different seisure conditions could safely enjoy a music show... which is for the ears.

  • Amazing, fun band

  • Honeydrops at Teragram Ballroom

by Nik at Nite on 1/9/23Teragram Ballroom - Los AngelesRating: 4 out of 5

What a fun night! Band sounded great with a fun, upbeat tempo. The venue was basic but great for this event. We were able to get upstairs to the VIP balcony and it was nice not to be so packed in.

  • Bummer

by Rdiz on 1/8/23Teragram Ballroom - Los AngelesRating: 1 out of 5

One of my fave bands and didn’t even make it through doors. Tetragram Ballroom has done away with 3/4 of its parking. Who knew? There is virtually zero public parking in the area. After looking for a parking spot on the street for 50 minutes, ( up to a 1/2 mile away!) I bailed. Saw several others frustrated fans stuck in same predicament. Yo, Tetragram what gives?!!!!

  • This is, by far, the best live music experience on earth!

by Judgebradley on 1/8/23Teragram Ballroom - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

Blues and jazz at its best! Not a concert, but a full blown party. The more fun you have the more fun they have, and vice versa. Definitely the most fun you can have for $35. Do yourself a favor and see this band!

  • Love listening to my happy band

  • Worth the Wait

by Sharon on 11/14/22Jefferson Theater - CharlottesvilleRating: 5 out of 5

A friend from NH told me last July, “If you ever get a chance to see the California Honeydrops perform, don’t miss it! “. The next day I found they were playing in my state of VA and bought 4 tickets… I knew I’d have friends wanting to join us! Their sound is full of so many genres! Highly upbeat! Great lyrics, impressive percussionists and OMG … the HORNS. and the VOICE!! Loved it all.

  • Awesome

  • Simply amazing

Can’t say enough about this show. Was literally pure joy. Have no idea why they aren’t way bigger.

  • The Honey Drops we’re great, the venue was not.

by Corky on 11/12/22Lincoln Theatre - WashingtonRating: 2 out of 5

People were standing in the aisles and directly in front of people trying to watch the show from their seats. Paying $80 for that place was a joke. And not a funny one!

  • Awesome band and cool venue
