THE CALIFORNIA HONEYDROPS IN CONCERT:

The old-timey blues and R&B of The California Honeydrops transports fans to a bygone musical era every time they take the stage. At their live shows the band whips up a New Orleans-style party, turning out their rootsy, celebratory tunes with infectious energy and tremendous musical prowess. In addition to guitar, drums, upright bass, trumpet, and saxophone The California Honeydrops incorporate old-fashioned instruments like jug, washboard, and gutbucket bass that are a heck of a lot of fun to see in action. Leading the charge is band leader Lech Wierzynski, a multi-talented performer whose soulful voice and clever lyrics make songs like "Pumpkin Pie" and "Like You Mean It" shine. Ticket buyers looking for a fresh take on the sounds of yesterday won't want to miss these talented performers as they bring the house down with their boisterous performances on tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Polish-born Lech Wierzynski cut his teeth playing jazz and blues at late night jam sessions while living in Washington, D.C. After studying with Ray Charles' former trumpet player Marcus Belgrave he relocated to Oakland, where in 2007 he formed the California Honeydrops. The group spent their early days performing in the city's subway stations, honing an interactive style that engaged passerby with their rollicking tunes. In 2008 they started making waves above ground, releasing their debut album Soul Tub! and then embarking on a European tour of Germany, Poland, and The Netherlands.  While still occasionally performing in Oakland subways, the band followed up with the albums Spreadin' Honey (2010) and Like You Mean It (2013), both of which they supported with extensive touring and performances at major festivals like the Portland Waterfront Blues Festival and the New Orleans Jazz Fest. Hot on the heels of their 2015 album River's Invitation and their first Australian tour, The California Honeydrops are in peak form and ready to get ticket buyers feeling good on tour.

  • A Great New Experience!

by Pamela on 10/9/24Brooklyn Bowl Philadelphia - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

This wildly versatile band kept the very mixed crowd moving all night. My first experience of The California Honeydrops made me an avid follower. Such a fun, upbeat evening. All the different musicians are so talented with multiple instruments, and the songs ranged from heartfelt to silly--always with an uplifting vibe. Also my first time to The Brooklyn Bowl, which is really a bowling alley/bar/event space. Amazing entry process was very streamlined (kudos to welcoming entry staff), and bar line, service, and drinks were all great. Handicap & elderly accomodations were welcome by those who needed seats, and the open standing in front of the stage was comfortably crowded to the point of fostering comraderie among the fans. Looking forward to returning.

  • So much fun!

This band is so entertaining and talented! Love seeing and hearing REAL musical instruments! Energy is contagious!

  • Euphoric experience!

I first saw California Honeydrops at 4848 festival this summer. My expectations were high when I bought tix at 9:30 Club, my 1st visit there. The show exceeded my expectations! Frontman Lech's smooth soulful voice and his multi-talented bandmates knocked my socks off. The horn and percussion/drum sections were amazing. Really great show-I couldn't stop dancing and I was on cloud 9 the whole next day. I've signed up for fan notifications. My friends who were unfamiliar with the band agreed it was uplifting happy danceable music. I also found the venue to be a cleaner and safer location than expected, just a couple blocks from the nearest subway station.

  • Great show!

by Richie Lee on 10/8/249:30 CLUB - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

We heard a fantastic show by the CA Honeydrops at the SOLD OUT 9:30 Club last weekend. The band brought a great energy to everything they played but I particularly enjoyed the stuff from their latest album. The funky grooves and great horn arrangements really added a lot to the catchy tunes. The lead singer brings an incredible energy to the group and all of the musicians are top-notch. Thanks for sharing your talents and hard work with us!

Can’t wait to see them again. They are so talented and a lot of fun. Glad we made it to the show.

  • Phoned it in for the hometown shows

by Lalala on 3/12/24The Fillmore - San FranciscoRating: 2 out of 5

I’ve seen them 10-20 times over the years and this set of three shows were amongst the worst. They failed to play a lot of their best songs (which is crazy considering it was 3 shows) and failed to bring the energy, opting to play more of their slower stuff.

  • Wonderful music in an epic building

by DancingK on 3/10/24The Fillmore - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

We planned to arrive after they started playing, about 8:00. Lots of people in line still but it moved fast. Wished we had known they have cost check (!!!!) open. And since we know the building well, it's always a walk down memory lane ...the bushel of apples, the chandeliers, the posters. Honeydrops absolutely performed as we expected. They were thrilled to be back "home"and they brought everyone they could. Horn section phenomenal, as are all the components of this incredible band!

  • The Honeydrops brought the lightning, thunder and the rain!

These guys rock. They are amazing musicians, talented vocalists and super engaged with the crowd. Always a great time!

  • Fun band, great show

by CWinOC on 3/5/24The Sound - Del MarRating: 5 out of 5

We've been waiting to see the California Honeydrops in a show on their own as opposed to being the opener or part of a festival. This show delivered! Show started a little bit after 8:00 with no opener so we got the California Honeydrops for the entire 2 1/2 hours. Very energetic and fun to see and dance to. The whole band is loaded with charisma.

  • Great band! Very fun and upbeat.

by Sharon on 3/5/24The Sound - Del MarRating: 5 out of 5

The California Honeydrops play a great mix of New Orleans/R&B/Rock that is very danceable. There are horns and even a tuba involved! The Sound is also a great venue.

  • AMAZING! Way exceeded expectations!!

  • Best Live Band Ever!

by Judgebradley on 3/4/24The Bellwether - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

This was our fifth time seeing the Honeydrops, and just when I thought it couldn't get any better, well, it got better! The Bellwether was perfect for the show, and the upgrade to the Looking Glass Lounge was worth every penny. Looking forward to next time!

  • A fun, talented, "bar group"....

by Watchguy on 11/8/23Minglewood Hall - MemphisRating: 5 out of 5

The California Honeydrops are a group of very talented musicians, you should go see them if you are looking for a very funky, extremely musical "bar group".
