THE CALIFORNIA HONEYDROPS IN CONCERT:

The old-timey blues and R&B of The California Honeydrops transports fans to a bygone musical era every time they take the stage. At their live shows the band whips up a New Orleans-style party, turning out their rootsy, celebratory tunes with infectious energy and tremendous musical prowess. In addition to guitar, drums, upright bass, trumpet, and saxophone The California Honeydrops incorporate old-fashioned instruments like jug, washboard, and gutbucket bass that are a heck of a lot of fun to see in action. Leading the charge is band leader Lech Wierzynski, a multi-talented performer whose soulful voice and clever lyrics make songs like "Pumpkin Pie" and "Like You Mean It" shine. Ticket buyers looking for a fresh take on the sounds of yesterday won't want to miss these talented performers as they bring the house down with their boisterous performances on tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Polish-born Lech Wierzynski cut his teeth playing jazz and blues at late night jam sessions while living in Washington, D.C. After studying with Ray Charles' former trumpet player Marcus Belgrave he relocated to Oakland, where in 2007 he formed the California Honeydrops. The group spent their early days performing in the city's subway stations, honing an interactive style that engaged passerby with their rollicking tunes. In 2008 they started making waves above ground, releasing their debut album Soul Tub! and then embarking on a European tour of Germany, Poland, and The Netherlands.  While still occasionally performing in Oakland subways, the band followed up with the albums Spreadin' Honey (2010) and Like You Mean It (2013), both of which they supported with extensive touring and performances at major festivals like the Portland Waterfront Blues Festival and the New Orleans Jazz Fest. Hot on the heels of their 2015 album River's Invitation and their first Australian tour, The California Honeydrops are in peak form and ready to get ticket buyers feeling good on tour.

  • Got my groove on!

by Carol on 10/22/19Aura - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

Honeydrops were amazing as always. The horns were incredible, so much jamming and soul in this band. Had seats at the top of the balcony but didn’t sit down the entire time. Danced and sang the whole time. Loved watching the diverse audience - 20s-70s - all get their groove on. Good reasonable priced beer, clean bathrooms without a line were also a big plus.

  • California Honeydrops: Fun Personified!

by PapaLou1 on 5/2/17House of Blues New Orleans - New OrleansRating: 5 out of 5

The California Honeydrops are one of the all-time great upbeat party bands! Although I was exhausted after being up since 3 a.m. that morning and traveling to New Orleans from Philly, these fabulous musicians gave me a shot of adrenalin that had me dancing, laughing, and enjoying myself like few bands ever do. If you just want to have a night of happiness, swinging and swaying, singing along, and dancing, these are the guys to see!

  • Great show and venue!

by Mrskippy on 8/3/16Brighton Music Hall - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

This band is SO good. One of the best shows I've seen in a long time. They were amazing at getting the crowd going and all were truly stellar musicians. Can't wait to see them again!! The venue was also great, had never been to Brighton Music Hall and was pleasantly surprised by the size and feel. My only complaint was the sound - often felt like the singer needed more volume or just oomph in general. I approached the sound guy and he just glared at me. Guess he probably deals w that a lot though. All in all, 10/10! Go see these guys!!!

  • I am old but still get the sweetness of HONEYDROPS

by ohmega on 9/15/15The Fillmore - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

I loved the way the evening started off with Charlie Hunter....a brilliant guitar player. It was kind of a slow warm up period for the HONEYDROPS....then they hit their stride a little later. I liked when Leck worked the crowd and singing about "why are you talking so much?". The youngsters did settle in after a while and shut up. I'm glad these guys getting more popular, what they are doing with music is excellent and important.

  • CA Honeydrops Rocked

    by djs2 on 10/21/14The Fillmore - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

The Honeydrops played to a packed house at the Fillmore on Oct. 18. Many people were faithful followers and many were new to the group. They absolutely enlarged their listening audience with a tremendous performance. The band's enthusiasm and musical prowess is amazing. They have literally stepped up to a bigger stage. While I absolutely love seeing CA Honeydrops in a small venue setting, they are meant for bigger things. Congrats for making it in the big time and I will continue to follow and enjoy the music!

Excellent show, two sets, all their hits and meet and greet after

  • Awesome show, though sound quality lacking

by BossMoss on 10/21/14The Fillmore - San FranciscoRating: 4 out of 5

You'll ALWAYS have an awesome time at a Honeydrops show! Super fun dancing music, new orleans style. They even wandered into the crowd for a horn dance session during the set break. Only complaint is the sound quality, which had nothing to do with the band. I could still have a conversation with my friends standing next to me speaking at normal voice volume, and I feel like some of the brass sounds were lost. You don't want to hear conversations around you if you're gearing for a dance party. Would definitely go to their next show.

maybe the best live band I've ever heard and I'm 62

  • Fantastic show in all ways

by Luciente on 10/21/14The Fillmore - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

This was one of the best shows I have ever seen at the Fillmore. The musicians were great, the energy was high, the interaction with the crowd was fun, even the waitresses were upbeat! The sound quality could have been better though, but not the musician's fault.
