THE CALIFORNIA HONEYDROPS IN CONCERT:

The old-timey blues and R&B of The California Honeydrops transports fans to a bygone musical era every time they take the stage. At their live shows the band whips up a New Orleans-style party, turning out their rootsy, celebratory tunes with infectious energy and tremendous musical prowess. In addition to guitar, drums, upright bass, trumpet, and saxophone The California Honeydrops incorporate old-fashioned instruments like jug, washboard, and gutbucket bass that are a heck of a lot of fun to see in action. Leading the charge is band leader Lech Wierzynski, a multi-talented performer whose soulful voice and clever lyrics make songs like "Pumpkin Pie" and "Like You Mean It" shine. Ticket buyers looking for a fresh take on the sounds of yesterday won't want to miss these talented performers as they bring the house down with their boisterous performances on tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Polish-born Lech Wierzynski cut his teeth playing jazz and blues at late night jam sessions while living in Washington, D.C. After studying with Ray Charles' former trumpet player Marcus Belgrave he relocated to Oakland, where in 2007 he formed the California Honeydrops. The group spent their early days performing in the city's subway stations, honing an interactive style that engaged passerby with their rollicking tunes. In 2008 they started making waves above ground, releasing their debut album Soul Tub! and then embarking on a European tour of Germany, Poland, and The Netherlands.  While still occasionally performing in Oakland subways, the band followed up with the albums Spreadin' Honey (2010) and Like You Mean It (2013), both of which they supported with extensive touring and performances at major festivals like the Portland Waterfront Blues Festival and the New Orleans Jazz Fest. Hot on the heels of their 2015 album River's Invitation and their first Australian tour, The California Honeydrops are in peak form and ready to get ticket buyers feeling good on tour.

  • Opening Summit

by MousamMojo on 11/8/22Aura - PortlandRating: 3 out of 5

Pleasantly surprised to find a fun bluegrass band opening. AJ Lee and Blue Summit's sound and innovation stole the show. While Honeydrops jacked up the vibe, their repetitive lyrics lacked interest. We left early to beat the mob.

  • Incredible

by Darby on 11/6/22Aura - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

One of the best shows I’ve ever seen. Aura is a great venue, always. The CA Honeydrops absolutely blew it out of the water. So much fun.

  • The California Honeydrops with Quinn DeVeaux.

by Carver on 6/16/22The Fillmore - San FranciscoRating: 4 out of 5

It was a joy seeing Quinn DeVeaux play with the California Honeydrops at the Fillmore. I used to love seeing Quinn and Lech play together in their band The Blue Roots at venues like Amnesia back in 2006. So much soul. As far as room for improvement, I must remind the venue that it is 2022 and CoVid is still a thing. I was disappointed that vaccination status was not being checked at the door. Perhaps San Francisco does not require this anymore but it would be responsible of an in-door venue of this size to do so.

  • I was so surprised by the brass instrument playing.

by Willie on 6/13/22The Fillmore - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

I bought the tickets impromptu to just go out and have a good evening on my own. I was so surprised. The show was amazing. I'm from the south, my music tastes are driven by my mood and some nostalgia. In this case I was just missing my family and roots. To experience the music just made my evening incredible.

  • Friday night at the Fillmore!

  • the best concert in a long long time

by sally sparkles park on 6/13/22The Fillmore - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

I am still smiling and dancing several days after seeing the CHD. The best. And frankly, after just being at Jazziest in New Orleans, thought this trumped those shows!! Go see them whenever you need a long lasting pick-me-up.

  • There’s a reason we saw them 3 nights in a row

by Patience’s Other half on 1/31/22Crystal Bay Club Casino Crown Room - Crystal BayRating: 5 out of 5

The band is stellar. I give them the smiliest band on planet Earth. Their merch is really great as well. Excellent band with a youthful fan base so I’m glad they have prospered over the years. I plan on being a fan with my with Patience until the End of Time

  • Great band, nice venue, HORRIBLY run

by Dave on 1/31/22Crystal Bay Club Casino Crown Room - Crystal BayRating: 1 out of 5

Omicron super-spreader event which did not follow any (including required) protocols. No notice that there would be no seating. Music was pretty much inaudible unless you were in the within 20 feet of the stage: the audience conversation was too loud as most of them were not listening to the music. A shame that you couldn't hear the music of such a great band. And I wonder how many are ill this week...................

  • Fantastic band

  • Such a fun night!

Great opener and fun energy from TCH. The venue was intimate and there were plenty of bars to get drinks from, which I appreciated.

  • California Honeydrops Score Big

by Rdiz on 1/10/22Teragram Ballroom - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

After 70 trips around the sun I keep going to live music because every once in a while you roll the dice and go to a show with a band that might have caught your ear once or twice on the radio and what you see is a band that isn't good... they are stunningly good. No feeling like it. That was the California Honeydrops, last Thursday at the Teragram Ballroom. I am here to tell you the Honeydrops brought a rollicking set that lifted the spirits of the entire room. By the second song! they had the crowd singin along with them, pumpin fists and movin their feet. Every band member deserved a standing O. When their encore ended and the lights dimmed these creaky knees had danced all night and the power of their soulful NOLA tinged sound lifted the Covid cloud for a few precious moments. I can still see the smiles of the players and the folks on the floor a week later. Wadda buzz. Muchas Honeydrops. You ever get a chance to see them, git some!

  • Great Live Band

    by PT77 on 1/10/22Teragram Ballroom - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

If you like great music with a fun loving, energetic and dancing crowd, you need to see these guys. Multi-instrumentalists, no pre-determined set lists and a New Orleans vibe make them one of those bands you can see multiple times. See them once and you’ll be hooked!

  • Omicron

by CFord on 1/9/22Teragram Ballroom - Los AngelesRating: 1 out of 5

Unfortunately we chose not to attend because of the rise of cases with the Omicron variant. We are fully vaccinated and boosted but still didn’t want to chance having a break through case. Hope to be able to see them perform again another time. I had bought the tickets for my sister for Christmas so we were disappointed.

by QueenV on 9/27/21Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

This has been my favorite band, ever since finding them. Seeing them at the Fox, in the town of the Band's Birth, and seeing all who came out to support them, and have a blast, was such fun! There couldn't be a better bunch of Musicians and Musician Aides!!! Managers, sound, booking etc...... you can find. Please support this band. I say you cannot go to too many Honeydrops shows. They make life worth living!!
