We were blown away with Steven Stills and Judy Collins! It was far superior to what we thought. We had an amazing night!!!
Judy Collins sounded like an angel and Stephen Stills is well, Stephen Stills - phenomenal. The two together in such an intimate setting was fantastic. Two long time friends, still playing music together; they were magic. I am so very glad they announced quite boldly to turn ALL electronic devices off and no pictures via phone, iPad or whatever. Thank you
Decent concert, Judy Collins voice is still very good. However this isn't the case for Stephen Stills. His voice is shot.
Concert was well attended. The sound was excellent. The performances were outstanding. Stephen stills for his age sounded really good Judy Collins she hasn't changed one bit she's as beautiful sounding as she was when she first broke out into the industry.
Judy Collins as mesmerizing as ever. They both were great. They were fun and funny and there's chemistry between them after 50 years! Music was killers. great show.
Stills should have stayed home. Judy Collins has the voice of an angel.
It was hellacious trying to park at the Saban on Friday due to massive road construction, Friday night traffic and road rerouting and closures. it was a sign. The show started about fifteen to twenty minutes late, if there was an opening act, it did not appear, the first number by Sills and Collins was marked by off key singing by Sills, and as the evening progressed, Sills continued to play and sing a bit off key. It was as though the monitors for these performers were not working. Distorted, atonal, really subpar. The highlight was the breather that the majority of the audience greeted with a standing ovation when Judy Collins soloed. While the concept was good, sadly the dissonance of the voices was jarring and disappointing. Judy Collins is best when she is not sharing the bill.
I'm not sure their voices always complimented each other. But then that could be said of their relationship so many years ago. Seeing Judy Collins and Stephen Stills (not sure why he got top billing over her) together was a rare treat. Whether they were performing individually or together, their voices and talent has not dimmed over the years. Their banter and stories between songs alone was worth the price of admission. We'd seen Judy perform at the Saban a couple years ago and she is just amazing. Her voice has not dimmed at all over the years. Stills was always my favorite of CSN&Y. And his voice and amazing guitar playing made this a must see experience.
I would not have missed this concert for anything. Judy Collins singing voice is so beautiful, and she is such a gracious presence onstage. I've seen Stephen Stills more times than I can count, and I see him every chance I get. But seeing the two of them on one stage was a great experience. They harmonized beautifully on a number of songs. They shortened "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes" and only sang the final choruses as their final encore number, which was a bit of a disappointment for me personally. But they may have been steering clear of the obvious, which I also understand. Anyhow to see a great artist like Stephen Stills onstage with his muse, a great talent in her own right, was great. The Saban Theatre is a wonderful venue too.
Two of the all time greats in the music world with the smallest sound system. I could not understand a word they said when they talked. (i sat in the front row center balcony) They sounded muffled when they sang.
Stephen looked and sounded fantastic. Sang so many special songs, including For What It's Worth and Bluebird. Chills. Best he's sounded in years. Judy, at 78 years, sang as beautifully as she ever has. Both Sides Now transported me back to my teens. They started together, then for next hour and a half they switched between lead, backup, solo and duets. Their deep love and and friendship was so everpresent that it became part of the show. Just a beautiful, special evening that was shared equally by the artists and their audience. And I'm not even a fan. My wife loves Stephen, so we went. Lucky me. Kenny White opened and he was an astounding revelation. After he finished his set, the audience rushed to the merchandise stand to buy his cd's. He alone was almost worth the price of admission. Buy Kenny White's music. The most intelligent lyrics I've ever heard, combined with beautiful melodies and a heartfelt performance.
I've been an admirer of Stephen Stills since my first year in college, 1966. Heaving seen him perform recently with The Rides, I was shocked at the condition of his voice. He has a such an impressive body of work, many of the best on display that evening. His ability to tell a story has all but vanished. The experience was a disappointment but, fool that I am, I'd do it all over again.
Wonderful to see them but sometimes it's time to live on reputations rather than attempt to continue. Judy's voice particularly strained and was discordant with Stephen. Stephen had trouble finishing sentences and didn't seem to be paying much attention to what was happening. Saw Judy at Stephen Talkhouse...better venue...smaller. Hard to say anything negative to about two such wonderful performers but unfortunately the shine was off the performances. It's great they're still performing but I think the performance would have been better served with fewer songs and more stories from both of them.
this concert was all that i hoped it would be with judy collins and stephen stills sharing songs, stories, laughs and memories. having seen both performers in recent years, i knew age changed them a bit but the talent they each have shines still. this venue allows a good view from wherever you sit as it is not very large. there were some sound issues this night but overall it was a "suite" night of two old friends singing and enjoying being together.
Judy Collins sang beautifully, gracefully...like an Angel... There were some Sound issues... Stephen's guitar was much too loud in the mix....
Great performance, hard to believe these two are in their 70s. Personal warmth and interaction added to the show.
It was a great concert. We were really glad to be there. It felt like an honor to see these two musical talents of our day. Judy sounded as she always did. Her voice is unchanged. She did an amazing job of singing Both Sides Now, Chelsea Morning, Suzanne, Who Knows Where The Time Goes. Stephen's voice sounded breathy, hoarse, as if he had a vocal overuse injury. Despite that I enjoyed the concert immensely. We were there more to see Stephen Stills even though I have listened to Judy Collins since the sixties. He sang Questions, which is the final part of the song CarryOn, Questions, leaving out the first 2/3 of the song. I'm assuming the end must be the part he wrote himself. I really enjoyed his song "So Begins The Task". He sang two solo songs that were new to me. One solo song "Seen Enough" was very good. Treetop Flyer is just not my favorite. Stephen played his guitars throughout most of the songs. A different guitar for each song. Both Judy and Stephen did a terrific rendition of "For What Its Worth" and "Suite Judy Blue Eyes" . The Sweet Judy Blue Eyes was a shortened version of the song, more like the last third of the song. They sang 17 songs total. Most songs they did together in some form- Stephen or Judy in backup harmonies or guitar playing on each other songs. I did wish Stephen Stills had sung Thoroughfare Gap, or Change Partners, or others of his better known songs, but he did not. A great concert. Very happy to have been there.
Judy Collins has the most beautiful voice. She was wonderful. I didn't want the show to end! Stephen and Judy did a nice job playing together and handing off for their individual songs. Loved the show.
How I wish I could have walked away cherishing the entire evening, but I cannot. Judy still has an ethereal voice, and was so wonderful, altho' I wasn't sure why she didn't have a tech to tune her 12 string. Maybe it just gave her something to do to kill a few moments while Stephen's guitar tech was switching out instruments. If they weren't plugging the album they just released, I don't think there would be any reason for them to be on the road at this point in their lives. Stephen, bless his heart. At first we thought the sound engineer was off his game, but we soon realized he was leaving Stephen's vocals out almost entirely as his ability to harmonize was nonexistent. His solos were spot on, and he can still play the guitar! We especially enjoyed his Buffalo Springfield selections. Judy has the patience of a saint, and thankfully they are good friends. Their duets were pretty much a trainwreck. I'm sorry I didn't buy cheaper tickets. Then I wouldn't feel like I had squandered $150 for the two of us to relive HS and college music memories.
Steven Still, composer and guitarist of extraordinary songs over his career brought the same magic to the show with each song. Judy Collins, a vision to behold, gave a performance that brought tears to my eyes, and a smile to my face. Her voice, as strong or maybe even stronger than ever before. A truly wondrous show.
