About

Now on Broadway through January 1 only! SOMETHING ROTTEN! is the hilarious Broadway smash from the director of ALADDIN and the co-director of THE BOOK OF MORMON!

This mash-up of 16th Century Shakespeare and 21st Century Broadway tells the story of brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom, two playwrights stuck in the shadow of that Renaissance rockstar Will Shakespeare. When a soothsayer foretells the next big thing in theatre, the Bottom Brothers set out to write the world's very first MUSICAL! With the most singing, the most dancing, and the most gut-busting laughs on Broadway, it's something wonderful... something for everyone... It's SOMETHING ROTTEN!, "the funniest musical comedy in at least 400 years" (Time Out New York)!

    Something Rotten

by Willowgreen1 on 11/25/15St. James Theater - New York City

I have now seen Something Rotten four times and it was perfect Broadway, each and every time. It is that perfect combination of an uproariously funny book and with wonderful dancing and singing. I will see it a fifth time if the original cast is in it on December 19th!

by TomerS on 11/24/15St. James Theatre - New York

I highly recommend Something Rotten. I've seen it twice. Loved every minute. The cast is superb. We laughed almost every moment of the show. Very clever concept.

    Something Hilarious!

by Jjjjjjjta on 11/24/15St. James Theatre - New York

Dude. This play nearly made me wet myself. It's that funny. By way of example only, there is a scene of dancing ommelettes that rivals "springtime for hitler..." 'Nuff said.

    Something Rotten was perfect!

by Tabernacle on 11/22/15St. James Theatre - New York

This is one of the funniest, most intellectually written shows I've ever seen in over 50 years of attending Broadway shows. The combining of Hamlet, the Shakespeare quotes that are so familiar to many into plots and dialogue and songs was brilliant. Plus the homage to the musical theater was a master touch. People who love the theater think it is wonderful and even those who do not frequent the theater as much find a lot to like in this show. The actors are perfect in their roles.

The Sweet Smell of Something Rotten

by MichaelDee56 on 11/20/15St. James Theatre - New York

This is a musical for musical lovers. The inside references come fast and furious so be ready. If you know your Shakesphere as well then this will blow you away. It is brilliantly written and the performance by Nostradamus is one to give an extra ear to as his lines are made for the insider. But it was a Uber-ego'd Shakespeare who steals the show. Performed as an adored rock star this is a performance beyond itself. The director/actor/writer combination make this one of the funniest shows I've seen on Broadway. I loved it!

    Hilariously Awesome Fun!

by TheaterVet on 11/14/15St. James Theatre - New York

My daughter and I loved it and I am planning to see it again. Great cast, great musical! When I picked this out for her birthday, my wife said "she's not a big Shakespeare fan"; the first big song after the Prologue was "I Hate Shakespeare" and she loved it! It's her new theme song. This is a parody par excellence!

    Better Than Hamilton!!

by GreatestCityInTheWorld on 11/14/15St. James Theatre - New York

WAY better! SR is brilliantly written and executed. I've seen it several times and continue to discover small-but-super-witty nuances. The entire cast (and crew as well) obviously pours their hearts into (and gives 110% to execute) a perfect production. The greater the number of Shakespeare works you've read in high school (and B'Way musicals you've attended), the greater your reward during this clever show. Chemistry between and among the actors is evident and spills-over into the audience; they are clearly reveling in a great time on stage. The costumes, sets, lighting, choreography, music, dialogue, acting and overall performance are simply exceptional. Hamilton cannot match any of the aforementioned. Kudos to all Something Rotten cast, crew, musicians, writers and anyone associated with this star lit won't quit big hit musical!

Something Rotten = Musical Comedy Gold

by FranklyFrankNYC on 11/12/15St. James Theatre - New York

Do you love musicals? Do you love to laugh? Yes? Good. We can be friends. You can also see Something Rotten. No, not "can"... MUST! The show is hysterical, and silly, and smart. I brought my mom who LOVES musicals, and my dad who DOESN'T LOVE MUSICALS, and they both LOVED the show. The best number is "A Musical" in Act I - it's going to be a theater classic. There's another showstopper in Act II, but I won't spoil it. Love this show. FF

    Something Rotten

by Anonymous on 11/12/15St. James Theatre - New York

I must say I thoroughly enjoyed my afternoon at the theater. I laughed out loud. The entire cast was wonderful and although the all the music is not memorable , I found myself singing a couple of numbers in the show. This is one I could see again.

    Fabulous and hilarious!

by Bakpo on 11/11/15St. James Theatre - New York

Hilarious, fantastic production! The cast was amazing, the songs and dialogue were extremely funny, and the energy was through the roof. If you are a fan of musicals, you will not only love this one on its own, but you will also enjoy the dozens of references to other musicals within the show. I laughed through the entire show, and was impressed by all the amazing talent on stage. Brian d'Arcy James, Heidi Blickenstaff, John Cariani, and Brooks Ashmanskas were particularly fabulous. I highly recommend it!
