About

Now on Broadway through January 1 only! SOMETHING ROTTEN! is the hilarious Broadway smash from the director of ALADDIN and the co-director of THE BOOK OF MORMON!

This mash-up of 16th Century Shakespeare and 21st Century Broadway tells the story of brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom, two playwrights stuck in the shadow of that Renaissance rockstar Will Shakespeare. When a soothsayer foretells the next big thing in theatre, the Bottom Brothers set out to write the world's very first MUSICAL! With the most singing, the most dancing, and the most gut-busting laughs on Broadway, it's something wonderful... something for everyone... It's SOMETHING ROTTEN!, "the funniest musical comedy in at least 400 years" (Time Out New York)!

    Nothing Rotten about this play

by CharlieCee on 12/6/15St. James Theatre - New York

This play was outstanding. The laughs were great and so well timed. The musical and dance numbers were really done well and were so entertaining. I love Shakespeare but that isn't a requirement for enjoying this show.

    most original show ever

by Aggravain42 on 12/5/15St. James Theatre - New York

Funniest show on Bdwy. Cast was amazing. Belly laughs galore a cross between Monty python and Mel brooks. Smiled from beginning to end with outrageous laughter all thru. Ser this more than once. The laughs are so many you'll need to go back to hear what you missed. Bravo Brian & Christian and crew. May you run forever. We need more laughter in our lives. And this is certainly it.

    A Night of Endless Laughs!

by TSher on 12/5/15St. James Theatre - New York

My wife and I went to this show with limited information about the show, the cast and the music. I must say that this was the most impressive show I have seen in a very long time. The cast is simply fantastic and their comic timing is absolutely perfect! Of particular note were the performances of Christian Borale, Brian d'Arcy James and, especially, Brad Oscar who practically steals every scene he is in. The concept and theme are both absurd and hilarious at the same time. And the songs are lyrically on par with, or dare I say one level above, Book of Mormons. All I can say is, if you like to laugh and enjoy musicals, go see it - you will not be disappointed. And if I am wrong, make sure that your heart is still beating and you are on the right side of the sod!

SOMETHING ROTTEN IS NOT ROTTEN; IT'S DELICIOUS!

by ColbyR on 12/5/15St. James Theatre - New York

This show is a delight. I have seen it 5 times so far, and each viewing is wonderful. The cast presents the show as though doing it for the first time, having a ball. It is the best show on Broadway; don't miss it.

Now this is what I call a COMEDY!

by VickersVC10 on 12/2/15St. James Theatre - New York

A smart, well written comedy at that! There is nothing on Broadway that comes close to this show as a comedy. My face hurts! I haven't laughed so hard in a musical comedy that I can't even remember when I did! The energy, the singing, the comic timing, it's all spot on. There were so many jokes it was hard to keep up from the laughter between each one. At one point I couldn't breathe from laughing so much. This show is tight and right on the mark! I hope this becomes one of the hottest tickets in town to get a seat, as it so deserves to be. I highly recommend for a comedy, this should be right at the top of your list. Get on a plane and get here and see this and the amazing cast! This is an absolutely delightful evening in the theatre that I cannot recommend nearly enough!

    Egg-cellent Musical. A must see

by BLUEROSE08 on 12/1/15The St James Theater - NYC

Something Rotten a pure joy to watch. Check what ails you at the door. You are in for one helluva a ride. This play is fun from the overture. It's funny and the cast is just phenomenal. I have seen it 5 times and will be going again soon. Christian Borle rocks as Will Shakespeare. Brad Oscar is just the best soothsayer ever. Brian D'Arcy James and John Cariani...these Bottoms are the tops!!! Brooks Ashmanskas what a preacher man. Do not miss this musical.

Amazing show. Costumes were beautiful, sets were unbelievable, the script and score themselves were brilliant. You could tell that everyone performing was absolutely in love with the show. If you have the opportunity, you have to go see it. It's one of those shows that'll last forever. Musical theatre history. Go see it.

    AMAZING SHOW!

by phatkat1968 on 12/1/15St. James Theatre - New York

Not sure how many superlatives are allowed in a review, but this show was FANTASTIC! The rapid pace of the dialogue means you have to pay super close attention sometimes but there is nothing bad about this show. Costumes, voices, songs are all top notch and so so so funny! Can't wait to listen to the soundtrack again and again.

    Hilarious fun!

by JillE1957 on 12/1/15St. James Theater - New York City

Saw Something Rotten on a theater trip where I saw 4 shows in 3 days. It was my absolute favorite of all the shows I saw. The music is great and hummable....the dancing is fabulous...the performances are top drawer! I would and have recommended this show to everyone I know who is considering which shows to see on Broadway. I hope they decide to go on tour at some point and that Atlanta is one of their first stops....I will go see it multiple times when it does. The show is worth seeing just for the opening number and the musical extravaganza "It's a Musical".

Almost as Great the Second Time

by llovethetheatre on 12/1/15St. James Theatre - New York

I love this play. From the concept to the music to the acting, it is just so well done. This was my second visit and the crowd was not as enthusiastic and the actors could feel it.The first time the actors received a 5-minute standing ovation after "It's a Musical," this time it was a loud applause. They fed off the first ovation and gave a more than brilliant, this time was great but just missed that audience interaction to feed off of.

    It's a smash

by Jmoo951 on 11/26/15St. James Theatre - New York

Embodies everything you expect to see on Broadway. Something Rotten is a fast paced quick witted musical comedy delivered by a talented cast. Christian Borle as "The Baird" portrays the Renaissance Rock star effortlessly. Made me want to pull out my high school Shakespeare to read again. Invoked my 14 year old self with Brian d'arcy number "I hate Shakespeare" some 30 yrs later. I was mesmerized from curtain up and surprisingly my two teenage daughters were, no texting for 3 hours!! Inspired to break my rule of only seeing a show once. Will definitely see again. Highly recommend as a "not to be missed'"show.
