Slander in Concert
Derek Andersen and Scott Land had only been DJing for a year when they found themselves totally blown away by the grandeur of a big trance music festival in 2010. They looked at each other and vowed to make it up on a stage as big as that one someday.
Flash forward to 2018, and the pair now known as Slander have played the main stage Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas for the second year in a row — this time alongside friend and trap music star Nghtmre — underneath endless firework explosions and the famously extravagant light show of the EDC stage.
Makers of self-described "heaven trap" music, Slander's live sets follow a 75/25 rule, giving a crowd mostly hard, heavy bass, but also mixing in the melodic vibes that set them apart within the trap realm. From past Vegas club residencies to their "Gud Vibrations" quasi-fest named after their megahit, Slander always look to leave their #SlanderFam fan base with the same emotional and spiritual takeaways from the music that they felt at that party in 2010. Talk about paying it forward.
Slander Background
As EDM surged in Southern California in the late 2000s, Slander's Derek Andersen and Scott Land met in their fraternity at UC Irvine. The DJ pair found themselves with a built-in party circuit in which to enact their sets, and they became regulars on the Orange County scene.
It wasn't until they attended L.A.'s Icon Collective (an electronic music production school of sorts) that they found their calling as trap music producers and EDM remixers. Slander (the moniker is a mishmash of their names) have remixed tracks for electronic heavyweights like Jack Ü and Gorgon City, as well as pop stars like Adele and Halsey.
Slander's "heaven trap" style brings a distinct euphoric mood to conventional trap music, like on their remix of Above & Beyond's "Love Is Not Enough," as well as on their latest single, "First Time" with Seven Lions and Dabin. They've released music on Diplo's Mad Decent label and frequently play major EDM festivals from Ultra Music Fest to all geographical iterations of EDC.
Perfect vibe. Into the night, the world stood perfectly still in that perfect moment where you would be in paradise and serenity.
What a show?!! Every DJ did their thing!! And the headliner....Worth the wait. Haven't seen Slander since EDCLV this past May and this show brought back all those same feels and then some! Anyone who hasn't already needs to give Slander and this EDM sub-genre a good listen! Be ready to go straight from your feels to some FILTHY BASS!!
First and foremost, would like to say I appreciate this rave happening in Sacramento on Halloween weekend. I must say, not a lot of festivals or rave happens in Sac so I truly appreciate it happening in my hometown where I won’t have to travel far. One thing for sure is to get rid of the 21+ wristband line outside the gate. It really confused a lot of people and wasted many peoples time waiting in that line thinking it was entrance. No one was there to give clear directions as well, which caused a lot of confusion. The portal potties right behind the bleachers caused a lot of traffic trying to get through to go to the back portal potties. Those should’ve been placed somewhere in the front entrance behind section 204-206 for people to spread out to use the bathroom. Food trucks had a pretty good variety of food which was fair, nothing to complain there. Stage and production was great, loved that there were fires in the pit instead of just on the stage and the laser show was good. As for the lineup, I really wished the team could bring out different genres to open and not just dubstep. Dj’s like Chyl, Dj Kang, William Black, Telykast, Johnny Chay, Hoang, Jason Ross, Julienbby etc. by doing this it will give ticket holders a chance to explore the different genres. Overall, I’ve been to many of Slander’s shows and they’re always phenomenal. I strongly believe that incorporating the different genres into future shows and having clear directions outside the gate will make the experience more enjoyable for everyone.
So fun! Great music, great location, and great vibes from everyone.
I have 0 complaints about the show! The venue is amazing, the crowd was awesome, the sound was great, fireworks, drones! Slander definitely blew away my expectations! I should have known, they never disappoint!
So impressed by every performer. This was a well produced show with fog, pyro, fireworks, and drones. Absolutely incredible night! Highly recommend all of these artists!
Drones, fireworks, amazing visuals, great audio, pretty lights & strobes… By far the best rave I’ve been to. The Rady Shell was a beautiful venue.
Incredible set, had a blast rocketing off the rails, security was very kind in removing people trying to butt in and steal the rail, first rave I've ever been to and it was such a blast
I loved the experience. Loved the music & some ppl who respected plur. Other ppl in fact did not, i was shoved once, got hit with someones hair from head banging. Really helped to have the bleachers for sitting im in my 30s & the option to sit out of the crowd but still be close enough was perfect. Would love to see again.
Loved Slander! Show was incredible!. I love the Coca Cola Roxy. It is a great venue and glad to see more and more EDM artists there.
