Slander in Concert
Derek Andersen and Scott Land had only been DJing for a year when they found themselves totally blown away by the grandeur of a big trance music festival in 2010. They looked at each other and vowed to make it up on a stage as big as that one someday.
Flash forward to 2018, and the pair now known as Slander have played the main stage Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas for the second year in a row — this time alongside friend and trap music star Nghtmre — underneath endless firework explosions and the famously extravagant light show of the EDC stage.
Makers of self-described "heaven trap" music, Slander's live sets follow a 75/25 rule, giving a crowd mostly hard, heavy bass, but also mixing in the melodic vibes that set them apart within the trap realm. From past Vegas club residencies to their "Gud Vibrations" quasi-fest named after their megahit, Slander always look to leave their #SlanderFam fan base with the same emotional and spiritual takeaways from the music that they felt at that party in 2010. Talk about paying it forward.
Slander Background
As EDM surged in Southern California in the late 2000s, Slander's Derek Andersen and Scott Land met in their fraternity at UC Irvine. The DJ pair found themselves with a built-in party circuit in which to enact their sets, and they became regulars on the Orange County scene.
It wasn't until they attended L.A.'s Icon Collective (an electronic music production school of sorts) that they found their calling as trap music producers and EDM remixers. Slander (the moniker is a mishmash of their names) have remixed tracks for electronic heavyweights like Jack Ü and Gorgon City, as well as pop stars like Adele and Halsey.
Slander's "heaven trap" style brings a distinct euphoric mood to conventional trap music, like on their remix of Above & Beyond's "Love Is Not Enough," as well as on their latest single, "First Time" with Seven Lions and Dabin. They've released music on Diplo's Mad Decent label and frequently play major EDM festivals from Ultra Music Fest to all geographical iterations of EDC.
slander was amazing! loved seeing them again! ticketmaster made getting tickets so easy and hassle free.
Where to start. Overpriced drinks. Terrible crowd. Boring music. If you’re looking to hear to same build up and drop over and over for 6 hours, this is your show. Left after 2 hours because it was so uninteresting. Will never see Slander again.
Perfect balance of crying and breaking my neck. 10/10 🖤
The crowd was wack that night, but the souls I managed to put myself around were fantastic. The show itself was absolutely amazing and the Sylvee was great as always. It was my first time seeing Slander live and I was not disappointed at all! 😍🔥 Between the amazing lineup, lasers and good vibes I managed to find I was moved to tears multiple times. My neck also hurt for a solid two days after the show because I was head banging so much and having the time of my life. Can’t wait to see them again at NCMF!! 🫶🏼
Super fun, although I feel like the show oversold tickets. Bathrooms were way too crowded and barely any floor room. Other than that, great show.
Had a blast and loved the set! Would recommend to anyone if they wanted to try raving. Slander would be the choice!
The light show and pyrotechnic show was AMAZING!! The way you could feel the bass in your chest wasn’t over powering, it was perfect! The way the crowd was jamming out to the set list was such a memorable time! Loved SLANDER! Such an awesome job! Hope they will be back to MN in the future!
super fun rave, bring earbuds cause it get real loud
My first time and it was awesome. Had so much fun.
Loved everything about it! Especially for a fire timer! Great experience Would definitely go again
It is difficult to have a good experience at a live show when it is so packed that finding anywhere to stand where you’re not being stepped on constantly by others and getting to the bathroom takes 45 min because of the crowd/line. Shows at the armory are so awesome when they don’t oversell on tickets but having a capacity that large in that venue takes away from everyone’s experience.
Epic experience even in pouring rain. We enjoyed ourselves great set list.
Slander never disappoints! I love watching shows at the hard rock pool side!
I purchased a two day show ticket, but Slander played the same set twice. Very disappointed in Slander show ing complete laziness and disregard for fans. They have more then enough music to play different sets and even said the first night they can't wait to see people again the second night, yet they played the same set.
It was okay . Would not go again . It was not that great of a set
I really love how nice this venue is. Havnt been here for a regular show and only for edm shows. I personally used to like coming here till the Roxy decided to make upstairs VIP only, leaving GA to one bathroom downstairs. It may sound dumb but having to wait close to 30 minutes in line to use the restroom and missing 30 minutes of a show kind of makes this venue not the best for these huge edm crowds. Let’s not get started on how hot it is in the venue with thousands of people shoulder to shoulder in a crowd with a fan above us that wasn’t even turned on. $70 tickets for 30 minute wait times for every time you go to the bathroom plus possible heat stroke <
Their fire set off the sprinklers and alarms kicked everyone out into the cold while wet- at 12am about 40 minutes into their set. No word on if the event would return after and no comment for a full 24 hours
Drove a 6 hour trip to see Slander performed for only half an hour because of stage malfunction. Left disappointed
my group drove from raleigh to atl to see slander but was left more depressed than ever. AN HOUR is not enough for us to enjoy the whole show, we didnt even get to hear love is gone. THE ONE SONG THAT BRINGS ME BACK TO LIFE. I mean it was really dope and I was so hyped but if Santa was real then can he bring Slander back and give us a free show for those who showed up?
Space Laces and SLANDER were crushing it. The visuals and pyrotechnics were awesome until the show was abruptly interrupted by the fire alarm/sprinklers halfway through SLANDER's set. Have to rate 3/5 for the lack of testing on the pyros before the show. 5/5 up until that point.
