I’m so glad the River Center had ice skating in the summer this year. We can’t always go during the holiday season so this worked well for us. My kids had a great time and it was so nice to have something to do inside away from the heat. It was not too crowded and everyone had room to skate. The only negative was the snack and drink prices; but about the same as when you buy them at the movie theater. I hope the River Center continues to offer this in the summers ahead!
The employees working the event were very nice and very helpful. I thought that $20 for. 75-minute session was a reasonable price for adults, but not for my 5 year old daughter who had only ice skated one other time in her life. Many ice rinks have training aids for small children to hold onto and push around the ice to get the feel for it. When I asked an employee if there were any such devices that my daughter could use, he told me they did not, as the River Center didn’t allow them to be used since they can “damage the ice.” I found this to be a little absurd, since these training devices are very common at many ice rinks. Had it not been for a very friendly patron who used to be an ice skating instructor who saw my daughter struggling and worked with her for a few minutes to get her more comfortable on the ice, our trip would have been a total bust and a total waste of money. If Baton Rouge wants to become a hockey town again, it would help if the public ice skating sessions at the River Center were family-friendly for ALL members of the family.
Summer skating at the River Center was a fantastic time. We thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to cool off in a unique way.
It was excellent! My family had a blast! I really hope y’all got enough business to do it again
Easy parking, easy to pick up skates and hit the rink. Wish this was something we could do more often. My granddaughter was a natural and would like to take lessons. Would be an asset to Baton Rouge Community and visitors.
I always love going to ice skating at the River Center. But I would have like to see more people/ more advertising for it. Not many of my friends knew about it
The check-in was very well organized. Unfortunately, there was not hardly any music to hear while we were ice skating. It was on but low and not usual skating type music. There wasn’t any enthusiasm or excitement. It was just okay.
So much fun for families. We went three times and loved every minute of it ;)
If I could give you zero start I would but that’s impossible so I give you a 1. Bought my ticket, same day. An hour before the event started someone, called that I had gotten exposed to Covid and couldn’t get my money back. Thanks Baton Rouge!
The overall experience was very nice, however I do think that children and less experienced skaters should have a separate skating area. Children often would not look where they were going so they happened to walk in front of people skating full speed as well as falling all around them. Having a separate area would reduce risk of fall and injury
We made memories that last forever and it was a great experience.
We’ve done this for the past six years as a family and love it. It’s become a family tradition prior to Santa Claus coming to town. Enjoy!
Took my 4.5 year old ice skating for the first time. Disappointed that they did not offer something for them to push while learning to skate. Wish Leo’s was still open!
Excellent time had by all ages!! Organized very well! A definite holiday repeat event!! Smiles were everywhere!
This is always a fun family outing for the holidays.
It was fun; however, by the time you wait in line for skates and the session is ended 15 min. early, you really don't have an hour and a half. Some skate sizes weren't available. Also, I think there should be a child's price. It's pretty expensive for the actual time spent skating once fees are added.
Free snack and coke are a joke. Free snack and coke are a joke.
Being at the rink first thing in the morning was a success for me, my son and his 7 yr old son. All the employees were very friendly and helpful. The 2 "skating monitors" were very helpful to my grandson. I ESPECIALLY appreciated the announcements about the free drink and the time of the drink stand closing...we had thought we would wait until the session was ended before getting our drinks and snacks, but it would have been closed and a child meltdown would have occurred. Thank you for bringing this back to the river center for us. It was nice to relive some childhood winter time memories of when I lived in Ohio.
What a wonderful way to spend time over the holidays. Great family event!!!
