About

SISTER ACT is Broadway's feel-amazing musical comedy smash! The New York Post calls it "RIDICULOUSLY FUN," and audiences are jumping to their feet in total agreement! Featuring original music by 8-time Oscar® winner ALAN MENKEN (Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Little Shop of Horrors), SISTER ACT tells the story of Deloris Van Cartier, a wannabe diva whose life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a crime and the cops hide her in the last place anyone would think to look—a convent! Under the suspicious watch of Mother Superior, Deloris helps her fellow sisters find their voices as she unexpectedly rediscovers her own. A sparkling tribute to the universal power of friendship, SISTER ACT is reason to REJOICE!

  • Enjoyed Every Minute!

by Rudkin on 11/24/12Auditorium Theatre - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

My husband and I went on the evening before Thanksgiving, so now we are able to say "Thanks" for a wonderful evening. I found myself tapping my feet and shaking my head to the music throughout the production. We were in center section orchestra J & K. Great seats - not too close, not too far away. The two lead women were amazing. They really carried the show. I was very pleased that the words were absolutely clear in all of the songs and dialogue. So many times you can miss phrases or don't know what was sung in a song - not the case here. The set and costumes were also well done - particularly the church scenes with the lighting and the sequined costumes. I absolutely loved this performance and would highly recommend. It was light-hearted musical entertainment, and it had a nice theme. Some say it was predictable - so what? It was just sheer entertainment. Sit back and enjoy the show.

Excellent production! Loved the musical scores as well and the costumes for the nuns. Just a totally wonderful evening.

  • Fun show!

I went with a small group of 8 ranging in age from 50-89 and we all enjoyed it! Some of us had seen the movie and some had not. I did have trouble catching all the lyrics to the songs, and I am the 50-year old! Not sure if that was due to the acoustics, the music being too loud for the singing, my hearing, or not being familiar with the songs ahead of time and being able to anticipate the words. Very clever lyrics though! Great acting and singing! I saw it the Tuesday of Thanksgiving week and it was a great way to kick off the holiday season!

  • A good play

I wouldn't save up for it, but if you are looking for a fun night out and have some extra time I would suggest picking up a ticket.

I hoped the musical would have some of the music from the movies but the entire show was new. Most of the songs and story line was very slow which made it difficult to stay awake. Pretty disappointed with the musical.

  • YES!

Sister Act was wonderful. Was a little disappointed that no music from the movie was in the show. Never the less they made up for that with their wonderful performance! For those of us out of towners it would have helped us if you would have said which of the listed parking lots was across the street! We walked blocks! Loved the Auditorium Theater though! Will look for show there again!

  • upbeat comedy

    by tiger31 on 11/23/12Auditorium Theatre - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

The musical was great overall! The one disappointment was there wasn't any songs from the iconic movie which is why I wanted to see the musical. However it was funny, great songs, and would see it again.

  • Fell short of expectations

by ChicagoMarkB on 11/22/12Auditorium Theater - ChicagoRating: 2 out of 5

It's inherently difficult to independently measure a show against an established standard, such as the original Sister Act film production in this case. A broadway show does not spend the time with non-musical dialog including the essential lines for humor that made the original film memorable. The show gets high marks for its production numbers but low marks for plot, character development, or caring about what happens to anyone in the story. The most entertaining aspect of the original story was taking the nun's chorus from a disconnected group of horribly sounding voices to a stunning chorus of broadway proportion. In this production, much of that transition was lost since even the original sounds of the group were far better than most would normally sound.

  • Sister Act Stumper

Well if you go see Sister Act pining for the sound of the '50s and the wonderful artsy rendition of one of Catholicism's favorite hymns - it won't be there. However, if you go to the show expecting Broadway at its best - then you won't be disappointed. There will be no "golden oldies" to clap along to and you're not in San Francisco anymore. It was very pleasing to see that the stage version of Maggie Smith's role had much more to do on stage and the character swings through it all triumphantly. Just remember it's the late '70s and Roman Catholics in America had no idea where the Church was heading after the hippies got through with it at Vatican II. (just kidding, but seriously, Catholics had no clue). And don't be confused: Paul VI was a lot skinnier than Benedict XVI and no, that wasn't JPII, standing there, right???

  • Outstanding!

    by doughboy111 on 11/21/12Auditorium Theatre - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Sister Act...was it's own show. I really liked that it had it's own interpretation. We would like to have heard a couple of songs from the movie...My Guy and Ave Maria. Besides that the show was outstanding, with some powerful singers. Thoroughly enjoyed the performance.

  • Sister Act was good but...

by NanisMuah on 11/21/12Auditorium Theatre - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

Sister Act was good but it would have been even better if it had songs from the movie. Although I was disappointed about not hearing those songs, it was still a great production.

I loved the play but I would have loved it even more if the music from the movie would have been part of the play.
