About
Husband and wife duo Shovels & Rope possess an undeniable chemistry that they bring to the stage with them every time they perform. Their stylish brand of alt-country incorporates elements of rock, folk, and even punk, and their eclectic live shows bring it all to life as they belt out songs like "Birmingham" and "The Devil Is All Around" in perfect harmony. Equal parts anthemic and heart-rending, Shovel & Rope's passionate performances never fail to get ticket buyers grooving on the duo's must-see tours.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Shovels & Rope is Cary Ann Hearst and Michael Trent, two South Carolina-based musicians who began collaborating in 2008 on what was intended to be a one-off album titled Shovels & Rope. The duo quickly realized they had both musical and personal chemistry, and in 2009 they were married. They made their sophomore outing as Shovels & Rope in 2012 with O' Be Joyful, an impressive slice of country folk that topped Billboard's Heatseekers Albums Chart and earned them the title of Emerging Artist of the Year at the 2013 Americana Music Honors & Awards. Shovels & Rope continued to delight in 2014 with their third album Swimmin' Time, following up the release with a series of rousing performances on the road.
FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

Great band, not my favorite venue!
by Celery99 on 4/10/15Deluxe at Old National Centre - IndianapolisRating: 4 out of 5Shovels and Rooe is one of the greatest little bands making music right now - they are gifted musicians, songwriters, and entertainers. The only downside to this event is the venue - too many columns in the way, and the sound is never great in this little space. It clearly was not designed as a music venue, and it shows.
Shovels and Rope - I dig it
by ohiotreasure on 4/10/15Deluxe at Old National Centre - IndianapolisRating: 4 out of 5Fantastic. sounded better than the album. great energy. Openers the In Laws were great as well. Played a long set. Don't look at the 4 star as bad, I don't think I've ever given a 5 star - I'm hard to 'amaze' lol. This performance was most excellent.
Amazing show!

Shovels and Rope
by GerriAnne on 2/17/15Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5Friends introduces us to Shovels and Rope a couple months ago so we decided to roadtrip it to Nashville for the concert. We were not disappointed.

Just, absolutely amazing. Michael and Cary Ann are just outstanding musicians, and extraordinary performers. They were so excited to be at The Mother Church and on Valentine's day! It was a sold out show and had such a great atmosphere! Caroline Rose was a pleasant surprise and was a great opener!!

Shovels and Rope were incredible!
by newBTEfan on 2/17/15Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5I've been a fan of theirs for almost a year, and this was my first opportunity to see them. They were worth every penny! I'm certainly going to see them again. Their connection with the crowd is undeniable. Songs were tight. It was a great experience.

ShoRo Rocks
by CortK on 2/17/15Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5Shovels & Rope put on a fantastic show. They seemed to enjoy every second of it just as much as the audience did! It's so awesome to see musicians truly love what they do. You can see this life about them that lets the crowd know we are seeing something truly special.
Lovely venue, great show!
by MMfirsttimer on 2/16/15Buckhead Theatre - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5Shovels & Rope is a fantastic band, and I would recommend their show to any music lover! Caroline Rose opened, and did a great job. She has a very unique sound and personality to match. The venue was fantastic, and I was able to get a great spot down front, just a few minutes before Caroline came on stage. Once she started, the lower section of the auditorium filled up quickly. I ultimately had to head towards the back of the room with a friend who was feeling lightheaded. The atmosphere back there was quite different. During Shovels & Rope's show, there was so much talking I could barely hear the band, which was incredibly disappointing.

Good show at a pretty good venue. A little crowded and to much of the "buckhead" type.
Shovels and rope was amazing
by Spanky350 on 2/15/15Buckhead Theatre - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5I see a lot of shows and that was the best in a while. They played music their fans new and loved mixed with a few new tunes. My friend didn't know the music before we went and it was still great for her too.

Great show
by OldCityVapors on 1/25/15Ponte Vedra Concert Hall - Ponte Vedra BeachRating: 5 out of 5Love, love, loved, this show. One of the best I have seen in a long time. They sounded so good live. Better than on the CD's. So much sound Comes out of these two it is incredible.Highly recommended to go see these two live. First time seeing them live and didn't know what to expect live. I was blown away by their sound.
A truly wonderful night!
by Jimzdman on 1/21/15North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North CharlestonRating: 5 out of 5I bought the tickets as a Christmas gift for my wife, who was a fan before I knew about them. She and I went to the performance, and when I asked her how she enjoyed it, she said, "Awesome! They are amazing live! They connect with the audience." We had a great time. I enjoyed the music, some of which I heard before when we saw them open for someone else in Raleigh, NC. Even though it is only the two of them performing, I especially enjoy how full their sound is and the diversity of instruments they play. They are quite talented, and their voices are wonderful having no problem filling the space. About the location: Finding the actual door to get in the venue was a bit awkward. One side of the site had a volleyball tournament, and it seemed the police had all the closest entrances to the parking lot ($5 fee) blocked, but once we found our way, everything was fine. I would arrive a bit earlier next time, especially since it was dark out (8pm showtime during the winter). The size is spacious, but not so big that you feel you need a telescope to see the artist.

Awesome show, glad to see them playing at home. They played another great show, and the sound at the Performing Arts Center was excellent. We enjoyed it very much.

GREAT ARTISTS IN POOR VENUE
by PrestonB2 on 1/20/15North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North CharlestonRating: 1 out of 5What I heard in the audience was a very poor rendition of their albums and of their small-venue performances. The amplifier gain was too high resulting in gross distortion of the music. There is no justification for sound intensities of 90 to 100 dB in the GT seats.
