About

Shin Lim on Tour

Catching Shin Lim in the act is unlike watching any other magician perform. Instead of making people disappear or sawing them in half, he simply concentrates on card tricks. But he raises the level of his sleight of hand with a deck of cards to a fine art.

There's drama, music, and a kind of a ballet to Lim's magic. And he's known for performing his illusions without uttering a word, letting his hands and his cards do all the talking while his carefully curated music — Lim started out as a musician — tickles the audience's ears. If you've seen him in one of his many television appearances, be it Penn & Teller: Fool Us, America's Got Talent, or Jimmy Kimmel Live, then you've experienced only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to a Shin Lim live performance.

Shin Lim Background

Born in Vancouver to Singaporean parents and raised in Massachusetts, Shin Lim had two passions in his youth: music and magic. He was studying music in college when he learned that he was suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome. This discovery caused him to abandon playing the piano in favor of becoming a professional magician.

He got one of his first big breaks when he was given the chance to tour in China. Since he didn't speak the language, he kept silent during his tricks, and that practice became a signature of his shows. Bringing a bold, unprecedented artistry to the realm of card tricks, Lim really began to hit it big when he worked his magic on TV's Penn & Teller: Fool Us in 2015. The performance became a social media sensation that elevated his profile dramatically. Since then, he's frequently appeared on TV, twice becoming a winner on America's Got Talent. And he tours widely, taking his illusions everywhere from Las Vegas to Broadway.

This was an unbelievable show. alot of crowd involvement. Getting to see Shin do his card tricks in person was more mesmerising than seeing it on t.v. This was a dream come true.

This was one of the best shows I have ever seen. Shin and Collin were both amazing. The audience participated in many of the tricks. I wish we would’ve got closer seats. Definitely know for next time.

  • Awesome Show

    by B. L. on 10/29/19Majestic Theatre Dallas - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

The venue is small, so there is really not a bad seat in the house. We were fortunate to be 9 rows from the stage on the floor. We kept a close eye on Shim and Colin Cloud, but still cannot figure out how they do it. Fun times!

  • Only 30% Shin Lim

by Aspen on 10/29/19Majestic Theatre Dallas - DallasRating: 3 out of 5

We LOVED Shin Lim. He was awesome. He is the reason we bought the tickets. Surprise - we get there and find out that 70% of the show was a hack mentalist doing "mind tricks" using obvious plants. I've seen better quality at kids' birthday parties. He even kept changing the name of one of the plants. When the guy from the audience stood up he said his name was Dylan. Then the hack mentalist changed it to Troy somewhere along the way and the plant never corrected him. Other botched tricks like obviously planting a microphone behind someone's head as she sat in a chair to project words the audience was "silently sending" her. There was zero notice that we would only be seeing four short illusions by Shin, and the rest was this insufferable guy. Do a show that's all Shin Lim, PLEASE!

  • Good show but needs to be renamed Colin Cloud & Shin Lim

    by K. C. on 10/22/19DAR Constitution Hall - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

I was looking forward to seeing more of Shin's tricks like he has on Instagram, but the show feature's mostly a bit more of Cloud and his mental act. He does a good job in giving variety to the show. Unfortunately Shin stays up on the stage where you can't see what he is doing without watching the video feed. So basically you are watching him do the same tricks on a tv feed. I would have preferred him do more interaction with the audience on the floor than the stage. The show is entertaining, but doesn't really play well to a big arena.

  • Amazing show!

Shin and Colin Cloud were amazing! It's one thing to see Shin and Colin perform on tv, but it is totally different to see them perform in person. I just kept saying, "wow"! Shin and Colin both engaged the audience with their magic. I can't wait to see them perform again.

  • Good show

  • SO MUCH FUN

by Julie on 10/22/19DAR Constitution Hall - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

I took my parents to the show and it was the best show we have been to. Like out of all the concerts and musicals and shows. It kept us on our toes. It was HILARIOUS. Shin and Colin engaged the ENTIRE audience--even if you didn't volunteer yourself up on the stage! I highly recommend this show for all ages. The venue was good too. We found parking on the street a couple blocks down and walked over. It's a smaller venue than Capital One Arena, for example, but it worked for this type of show.

  • Amaaaaaaazing!!!

Shin Lim was absolutely incredible and Colin Cloud, the forensic mind reading was a perfect compliment to Shin's cardistry. Hands down would see it again. I am a big fan and so are my kids!!
