Shin Lim on Tour
Catching Shin Lim in the act is unlike watching any other magician perform. Instead of making people disappear or sawing them in half, he simply concentrates on card tricks. But he raises the level of his sleight of hand with a deck of cards to a fine art.
There's drama, music, and a kind of a ballet to Lim's magic. And he's known for performing his illusions without uttering a word, letting his hands and his cards do all the talking while his carefully curated music — Lim started out as a musician — tickles the audience's ears. If you've seen him in one of his many television appearances, be it Penn & Teller: Fool Us, America's Got Talent, or Jimmy Kimmel Live, then you've experienced only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to a Shin Lim live performance.
Shin Lim Background
Born in Vancouver to Singaporean parents and raised in Massachusetts, Shin Lim had two passions in his youth: music and magic. He was studying music in college when he learned that he was suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome. This discovery caused him to abandon playing the piano in favor of becoming a professional magician.
He got one of his first big breaks when he was given the chance to tour in China. Since he didn't speak the language, he kept silent during his tricks, and that practice became a signature of his shows. Bringing a bold, unprecedented artistry to the realm of card tricks, Lim really began to hit it big when he worked his magic on TV's Penn & Teller: Fool Us in 2015. The performance became a social media sensation that elevated his profile dramatically. Since then, he's frequently appeared on TV, twice becoming a winner on America's Got Talent. And he tours widely, taking his illusions everywhere from Las Vegas to Broadway.
We had a great time and Shin Lim and his partner were amazing!
Phenomenal! I thought it would be entertaining, but it was more than entertaining - it was astonishing! What a talent. Best magic show I ever saw.
Best show I’ve seen in years. I would take any kid over 9 to see the show. Impossible manic or illusion
Even for someone who watched all of his AGT performances, the show was fresh and full of surprises. He’s unbelievable. I’m convinced he’s doing actual magic lol. His costar is truly impressive as well; they kept the pace moving, made us laugh, and of course made us ooooh and aaaah. Worth seeing.
This was a gift for my son's 13th birthday. We had no idea that Colin Cloud would also be performing so that was an added bonus. The show was amazing by both, they were a great compliment to each other. We really enjoyed the show. Our seats were great and the theater was very nice. The only complaint we had was with the camera operator. There must have been no rehearsal or communication for the video team because the camera operator struggled to keep the tricks in frame and was repeatedly cutting off the hands or face where the audience should have been following the magic so we were missing parts of the tricks. The video screens are very important for this close up magic style show. That was frustrating at times. Otherwise a great experience.
It was amazing! I really enjoyed the show! Both magicians were so talented and funny. I can’t figure out how they did their magic tricks. The staging could have been better, but overall it was awesome!
Collins and Lin compliment to make an enjoyable experience, loved it
Amazing show! Lots of audience interactions. Definitely is a must see show. These guys are so talented.
This was my very first magic show and I was mesmerized for the entire show. Shin and Colin are awesome at what they do and I was not disappointed. This is a great family event and I will look for another opportunity to see them again.
Enjoyed the interaction with audience participation. Both Shin and Colin were amazing and entertaining. Highly recommend the show. Would love to see again.
We absolutely loved Shin Lim and the mentalist that was part of his show. It truly is amazing how he does these tricks. The show was well paced, kept our attention, had lots of audience participation and we were sad to see it end. Definitely worth going. Makes the skeptics really question how all of this works.
I don't know how he does it! Show is amazing. The sleight of hand is unbelievable. I mean an entire deck of cards disappears from his hand! Cards change! The card trick with the entire audience participating left me speechless! Highly recommend!
Better than Penn n Teller; standing ovations; we have seen 15 + shows from Chris Angel (terrible) to Sigrid(spelling?) & Roy (the best); Shin Lin would be near the top!!!!
Shin Lim was better than expected. My husband and I really enjoyed our time
Saw Shin Lim on AGT and had to see him in person. The show was great. His close up magic is the best I have seen. His stage presence is very good. Will definitely see his show again
Amazing, and having Colin Cloud in the show was an added bonus!
Shin Lim is personable, funny, entertaining and very very talented. He came into the crowd for two tricks with us the audience. They play very dramatic music. He’s fantastic to watch in person. But Colin Cloud was pretty much the hit of the snow. He’s a “forensic mind reader” and does AMAZING things with audience members on stage. He also is funny and immensely entertaining. I wouldn’t advise missing this show. There were approx 1330 people in attendance Friday evening.
I’d seen Shin Lim on YouTube and have to say he’s incredible. It is impossible to understand how he could have done those tricks, just amazing. Colin Cloud was also excellent. The only thing I’d say about Shin is he did exactly the same 2 tricks live as on Penn and Teller TV show. It was fine as hadn’t seen before I went, so don’t watch on YouTube first and you will be truly amazed. He’s a bit egotistical bringing out his gig and wittering on about his girlfriend, but hey ho, no one’s perfect and he is literally a genius. This is Magic with a capital M
Beautiful venue and fabulous show. I have a pretty short attention span but I was enthralled all the way through!
Colin Cloud is an excellent compliment to Shin Lim. From the very start of the performance to the end, I was mesmerized. People from the audience were selected as participants. Were the participants planted? So well performed you need to go again to check it out
