About

Shen Yun Performing Arts is a triumph of collaboration, bringing together over a hundred of the world's foremost classically trained Chinese dancers, choreographers, musicians, and vocalists. It also boasts the world's only full orchestra that embraces both Western and Chinese instruments as its permanent members.

Based in New York, Shen Yun Performing Arts is distinguished by its conscious effort to remain independent of China's communist regime, which has abused and impoverished the arts for decades. It is proud to thus include members who practice Falun Gong. The company aspires to create original performances that not only entertain, but also more deeply educate, enrich, and inspire. The company's rich repertory is drawn from the pages of history, universal themes, and the world around us. All choreography and music performed are original.

    An amazing show

by ColumbusOhio on 3/6/11Ohio Theatre - Columbus

This Chinese culture show dazzled with amazing choreography and music. The singers and dancers were the next thing to perfection! My 9 year old daughter was spellbound and loved the gorgeous costumes. Even the backdrops for the performances were beautiful. The thing that I liked least was that there were too many political statement performances (complete with dancing military police). I understand that this is a part of China's history and occurs even today, but one or two performances would have been enough to inform the audience. Otherwise, it is a great show that I would highly recommend.

    Shen Yun was too political

by Kaylon on 3/5/11Ohio Theatre - Columbus

The narrative made the show to choppy and the narratives were about the civil rights violations in China. We thought we were going to see a fantastic dance show not be lectured.

    Shen Yun - Columbus

The show was a great way to illustrate the culture of China and the history of dance.

    Interesting but very repetative

by StructureGuy on 3/5/11Ohio Theatre - Columbus

The costumes were great. The "special effects" a bit cheesey. The orchestra was excellent. The dancing was artistic but not very exciting or especially entertaining. The problem with this show is that it is too long and the chinese traditional dancing is very similar from one act to another just maybe a different costume and prop. It got boring so we left 20 minutes early.

SHEN Yun was just very good

by masheaf on 3/5/11Ohio Theatre - Columbus

Beautiful costumes and beautiful Dance routines but all of them were similar. The Singers were very good. The pianist who played for them was great and it would be great to hear a few solos.

Shen Yun Good but not Great

by Tpfj on 3/4/11Ohio Theatre - Columbus

I went in with high expectations. The costumes were OUTSTANDING! and that must be where the money went, as the tickets were very expensive. The choreography was amazing but after you saw the first few songs, there were no more surprises. The auditorium was fairly empty, and I wonder if people had seen this before and felt as I did. I just expected a lot more flash, considering the price of the ticket.

    Not Worth the Cost

    by Spouse474 on 3/4/11Ohio Theatre - Columbus

My spouse and I have seen many performances of Chinese dance, opera, acrobatics and martial arts. Consequently, we were excited to see Shen Yun. We were terribly disappointed. After the first three numbers, it seemed everything became repetitious. The dancing was okay, but not the spectacular performance we had been led to expect. The singing was about average; the tenor had a difficult time maintaining pitch, but did better after the first four or five minutes. The costumes are incredible, but they can't make up for the sameness of the numbers. The large screen at the back of the stage was rather odd. When performers stood in front of the screen, the projected images made the dancers look weirdly fuzzy and out of focus. The colors were super-saturated and rather surreal. Some of the special effects, like the animated deities "flying" to earth, were out-right laughable. The "MCs" were horrible. Their saccharine delivery and forced attempts at humor were seriously bad. The audience response -- occasional scattered applause -- indicated that other folks were equally unimpressed. Finally, the rather "preachy" tone regarding religious persecution in China seemed out of place. We left at intermission.

Shen Yun is the greatest show I have ever seen. No.1 in the world!!! All the dancing were really beautiful, and singers were also great. I would like to recommend my friends to see it. I am going to see it next year and find a better seat.

    Shen Yun was fantastic

by daddyrabbit059 on 3/2/11Robinson Center Music Hall - Little Rock

Excellent choreography. Loved the live orchestra. The narrators between dance scenes were very helpful. The accompanying program was very helpful. I took time to read it in its entirety after the show to help remember stories displayed by the dancers. All of the dancers were quite gifted.

    Best show in the world!

by morningbird on 2/28/11Raleigh Memorial Auditorium - Raleigh

There are no words to describe the true beauty of Shen Yun. It is the best show in the world. The performers are incredible. You can see their dancing with their hearts, it is really amazing. The costumes are incredible, and the colors were unlike any I've seen before... out of this world... so beautiful. I hope Shen Yun will visit North Carolina every year.

    Grueling

by RyanActon on 2/28/11The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - Memphis

The performance was very dry, repetitive and redundant. For the price it was definitely not worth going. It is basically the same dance throughout the entire performance which becomes mundane very fast. I would not recommend this to anyone.

    Average Show

by Aerie23 on 2/28/11The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - Memphis

The dancers were very good, but after a few of the sets it became rather boresome. It was certainly not worth the high price of the ticket.
