Saved by the 90s on Tour

There's nothing quite like getting into a room with a bunch of your friends to belt out hits you know inside out. Enter Saved by the 90s, a party-starting rock and pop cover band that focuses on the decade when grunge, teen-pop and alternative rock dominated. The high-energy troupe sport colorful outfits and perform faithful renditions of jams from Third Eye Blind, Foo Fighters, Sum 41 and blink-182, among others — and, thanks to a rotating cast of female vocalists, smashes from No Doubt, Garbage and Spice Girls are also in play.

In previous years, while going by the name Bayside Tigers — the moniker references the sports teams at fictional Bayside High of '90s TV show Saved by the Bell — the band performed all over the country, including at multiple House of Blues locations. Today, calling themselves Saved by the 90s, the group continues to maintain a healthy touring schedule. Plus, you never know who might show up at a gig. In the past, rappers Coolio and Naughty by Nature, Sugar Ray frontman Mark McGrath and the late Cranberries singer Dolores O'Riordan have all sat in with the band.

Saved by the 90s in Concert

Saved by the 90s was started in the late '00s by a trio of friends: guitarist/singer Danny Finerman, bassist/vocalist Alex Rossiter and drummer/singer Nat Esten. The latter two were classmates at Berklee College of Music and had started noticing as they gigged around that their audience especially dug '90s covers by acts such as Green Day and Foo Fighters. Finerman had also sensed that the decade's music was due for a resurgence, and so the concept of Saved by the 90s was born.

The group started playing out in New York City, first as a live-band karaoke project and then just a straightforward cover band. Sold-out club shows followed, as did a nationwide expansion; today, there are multiple Saved by the 90s bands performing throughout the country, all with extensive, 100+ song repertoires. Notable members include vocalist Emily Afton, who has been on Broadway and in touring theater productions.

I had an excellent time with my 16-years-old son during the show. We are not Americans, but we enjoyed the songs, the band and the place.

The band was very talented all around. I'd say they played more 2000's stuff this night. And for me, as far as rock, it isn't my favorite decade overall. But if you like that era, they were great. I didn't hear 1 grunge song. Oh well, still had a fun time.

  • Great energy!

Danced and sang to every song! Sooo fun! Felt like a blast from our younger days. They did each song justice and especially loved their smash ups!

  • Patience is the key.

The HOB venue is great. The Parish was a nice size for this event, but be prepared to stand on concrete for 4 hours. Tickets said the show starts at 7... but we were just ushered into the venue and waited 2 hours for it to begin. DJ played some music starting at around 8, but the band didn't play until 9. The two hours of music was total nostalgia- great hits from the 90s that everyone could sing along to. I loved the format; I wouldn't say I liked the timing. Would I see them again? Yes. Would I arrive at 7? Probably not. PS. Wear comfy shoes.

We have seen this show 3 times. This time we were disappointed. It was just ok. We prefer bands such as Stereo FM, Leonard Brothers…

  • Meh

    by R. S. on 2/21/23Roxian Theatre - PittsburghRating: 1 out of 5

I’ve seen this band a few times a few years ago. This was a completely different group of people and weren’t nearly as good. Especially the lead singer. She had no energy and wasn’t exciting. I get she’s pregnant, but if you can’t perform, don’t tour. Disappointed and so were my friends I brought with me

  • It’s alright cuz I’m saved by the 90s

by Shell Wiz on 1/31/23Saint Andrew's Hall - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Did a fantastic show. There was one random song that I had no clue about. The rest of the hours were filled with nostalgia and great music. The crowd was fun. The band was pumped up and kept everyone dancing and singing along. Thanks!

  • Show was just ok

    by A. K. on 1/30/23House of Blues Cleveland - ClevelandRating: 3 out of 5

The songs they sang were good but the set list was lacking! How do you have a 90’s show and not include Nirvana, Beastie Boys or Pearl Jam (to name a few)??? I suggest they don’t play the entire song either: if they only played half of each song, they could double the titles played.

  • Great show

We had a great time. The band played all the good songs.

  • What a great show!

by KidMilk on 1/15/23Revolution Live - Ft LauderdaleRating: 5 out of 5

A friend invited me along to see this band. I had 0 expectations, and honestly it was one of the most fun evenings I’ve had in a while. The band sounded great, and covered almost every genre of 90’s music. They played all upbeat fun songs, and the vibe was incredible. I will definitely see them again next time they are around!

  • Awesome show

The band brings the energy every time we see them. Great mix of songs and party atmosphere for our group. Can’t wait for the next show!

  • Smells like 90s Spirit

by JB on 1/11/23House of Blues Orlando - OrlandoRating: 5 out of 5

This night operated like a time machine journeying the crowd through singing songs that reminds us of the good times and songs that reminds us of the best times! Saved by the 90s made us chase Waterfalls and live life Plastic Fantastic because we Wanted it That Way. I was amazed that a lot of people gathered together for this event, reliving nostalgia at its best from styling, jamming, and even cosplaying! The best part? Every song covered was done rock style, even the hip hop ones, and there was birthday cake! 10/10! You oughtta know that man! I feel like a 90s baby!

  • Outstanding Performance

They played every single song that got me through the 90s
